what do you guys do about the rear end gears. im under the impression that you would need higher gears ratios cuz the v8 dosent rev like the 4cyl (i mean in cruzing) how are the rpms in top gear on the hwy at say 70? GREAT RIDE!!

yes... because twice the con-rods, twice the pistons, twice the heads, twice the exhaust manifolds... a crank that has to support 8 pistons and con rods and a probably close to twice the material in the block, equates to less weight than a fucking 4 banger....

@Bip01arBear All LS series engines have the same external dimensions so ANY LS series engine will fit no problem. The size of the engine listed (5.7L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L, etc.) is in reference to the displacement. Which is an internal dimension to the engine and does not affect the external size of the motor.
I own a 240 and their KA24's are shit no matter what you do, now the chassis is great cause its easy to get parts for and has alot of engine space so you have a wide variety of engine swaps: sr20, rb20, rb25, rb26, ca18, 2jz, or go NA with a ls1, easy to get parts for and has some nice power and torque, american cars are ugly, american engines are decent
look up Mazda Miata ls1 driveby. the v8 is only a 200 pound difference from the stock engine, and it balances out the miata 47-53 so it's almost balanced perfectly. v8's you can do more with. it's reliable
Lighter than an SR20 or RB26 swap or stock KA (remember, turbos have weight too), better weight distribution than any of the three, better reliability and parts availability, more average HP stock, and most potential for HP. What's not to like?
@RDavis240lsx I know right, it amazed me when I found out the LS1 is lighter than the stock motor lol. I knew cast iron was heavy, but fuck that's embarrassingly heavy.

a SR is still around 100lbs lighter even turbo but the KA with a turbo could easily wiegh the same either way a whole SR swap is cheaper than a used LS1 6 speed trans
@RDavis240lsx yah buddy ....I have an sr swap, my mechanic has an ls1...they are not lighter in the least bit...even including weight of intercooler, piping, and turbo....parts are also READILY available for SR's just because of the popularity (not to mention much cheaper)...Sr's are more efficient and put out more horsepower per liter...as far as potential goes an LS1 has more, and it does have more horsepower stock. I would go 2JZ if anything.
@spaceoner1987 There are several documented swaps that are several pounds lighter swapping from an sr20 to ls1 on silviav8forums so I would check to see if your mechanic has a truck motor(it's alot cheaper so some go that route). Not to mention better weight distribution from getting the weight of the hotside off the nose. And I didn't say it had the most HP stock; I said it had the most AVERAGE HP stock. Meaning under the curve ie. usable power.

Most of you have no clue what your talking about. Now days in america, its alot cheaper to throw a v8 in a shitbox 240, they make 10x better drift cars with less amount of shit done to the engine. Plus you can easily get anything you need for any v8 over here.
LS1 swaps are very popular in this car because they're lightweight and are much easier to obtain then a RB25DET or a SR20DET. They've got a lot of torque, they're very inexpensive to modify and most importantly they're easy to fix when they break. Perfect for a low-budget drift car.
S15A VSPEC is the one to go for dude!

@92RB20Monster It's the fact that the Chevy V8 comes with more than enough natural power against the laggy turbocharged 4-banger that is almost always required to make power relative to that of a GM LS V8. For drifting, I'd much rather have instant torque, than peak horsepower at 6,000rpm.

Most of you have no clue what your talking about. Now days in america, its alot cheaper to throw a v8 in a shitbox 240, they make 10x better drift cars with less amount of shit done to the engine. Plus you can easily get anything you need for any v8 over here.

LS1 swaps are very popular in this car because they're lightweight and are much easier to obtain then a RB25DET or a SR20DET. They've got a lot of torque, they're very inexpensive to modify and most importantly they're easy to fix when they break. Perfect for a low-budget drift car.
