Oh yah, its Carrie, she's just trying to sound a little bit like Kerry Butler (Kerry Butler played Audrey in a former prduction of the play, in case somone didn't know)
because this performance has been modulated, so her voice is lower and sounds terrible. i dont know why the owner of this video did that, but if you go and listen to another version thats available on here, you'll hear it in the right key and definitely recognize Carrie's voice, and she sounds spectacular!
You're saying ALL of her songs are country songs? With no pop flavor added? I disagree, but then, I think a lot of country music has a more pop-feeling to it nowadays.
Let me rephrase my question: Why can't any "talented" recording artists sing songs from this musical well?
well you're just stupid aren't you? they tell you in the beginning of the video, first of all, so you can't claim no one told you, and second of all, maybe she's "pretending like she knows how to sing" because she's a famous recording artist with 2 albums out who also won a national singing contest. i don't know though, maybe i'm wrong.
no, i don't think that's it... i think you're just ignorant. maybe you skipped the beginning, or maybe you can't retain information. or maybe you're immature and that's why your best response to that is that i'm a hick. i mean, since i'm clearly located in such a rural or culturally unsophisticated area (Washington, D.C.) i suppose you must be right. i'm so sorry.
1. awkwardly simple and provincial; "bumpkinly country boys"; "rustic farmers"; "a hick town"; "the nightlife of Montmartre awed the unsophisticated tourists" [syn: bumpkinly]
im glad you are so well educated. i'm done with your immature comebacks. thank you for being a mild source of entertainment.
what a silly thing to say - of course she sounds this good! this is Carrie, she sounds great, great in concert too ! She sounds better live than on her CD's
To clarify - she sang Jesus Take the Wheel at the CMA's , she sang this song Suddenly Seymour with Patrick Wilson at Broadway Meets Country, the same week as the CMA's in NYC November 2005
It's definitely Carrie - you can see pics of Patrick and Carrie on Getty Editorial under Carrie Underwood Broadway Meets Country - she sang this in Fall of 2005 in NYC when she performed at the CMA"S in NYC
Actress- you're 15 years old from Asia?? that may explain your comment - they are both fantastic and I have seen many Broadway musicals on Broadway in the US
This performance also got a standing ovation from Broadway artists and the Broadway faithful - Carrie is singing in character so for those of you who don't know the Little Shop of Horrors really can't comment on this performance
This definitely is Carrie - there are pics at Getty Editorial - just search for Broadway Meets country - this was in NYC at the same time she first appeared at the CMA awards in NYC in Nov 2005
Well, I think it sounds just like Carrie and it is Carrie, if you listen to her Mac Arthur park performance on American Idol you will here her in a lower key - plus if you listen to Carrie all the time like I do YOU KNOW that is Carrie, it's pure Carrie and noone else
This version was modulated lower for some reason. This one uploaded by chrisltu (above video response) has the correct key so our favorite singers don't sound like weird monsters.
Carrie doesn't exactly understand the concept of build; I feel like she was at 100% the whole time. Other than that way better than Mandy Moore 0.o;;;
It's not that it's bad, it's just that she suffers from American Idol syndrome. The ability to over do notes thinking power means nice. And she's no Ellen Greene, but way better than Mandy Moore doing it.
It's not that your attempt at analysis is bad, it's just that you suffer from Condescending Arrogance syndrome. Having the ability to overestimate your imagined musicological perspicacity and thinking that your self-confidence means credibility. And you're no final arbiter on how this song should be performed.
Carrie and Patrick Wilson received one of the few standing ovations that evening (11/12/05) at
the Frederick P. Rose Hall. The audience had many Broadway veterans, country stars, and $350 and up ticket holders. Rose Hall is a 1,200 seat venue at Lincoln Center.
Wow, i'm just amazed that mandyfan4life84 thinks Mandy did a better job than Carrie. I love Mandy but there's really no comparing their performances. Mandy's was way too ordinary.
And to everyone who says Carrie sounded awful, she sang this song exactly how it's supposed to be sung. She did it nearly as flawlessly as the original Audrey; Ellen Greene did it. Carrie changed her voice so it would fit the character, listen to it again and keep that in mind, and you'll think she did great.
this was great! it was good to hear carrie sing something different, something you'd normally not hear her do. even though she sounded so different, she still did an amazing job. you could definitely tell it was her! thanks for posting this!
Thanks so much for posting. I love your sense of humor. You brought more interest to an already fantastic duet. Yes, Carrie can sing anything. I look forward to everything she does.
that does not sound like Carrie Underwood. Even though it IS her, she sounds awful. The key should have been much higher than that. She sounded like a man. It was not pleasant to listen to. Listen to Kerry Butler sing this. THAT is amazing
there are pics for this performance at Getty Editorial under Carrie Underwood Broadway Meets Country - there is also a short live clip at Vinman media
Yes, this is Carrie - listen to Carrie sing MacArthur Park , she sings that in a low key too. Of course this is Carrie, she's singing with a Brooklyn accent because the character calls for it- this is from Broadway Meets Country Nov 2005
Wow! I've never heard of her before, but this performance of suddenly seymour is the only one I've ever heard that comes close to Ellen Greene. Still not as good, but close. :P dunno if the other's guy voice suits the part, but it's nice. thanks for posting this!
I definately agree, a broadway actress must have poweful vocals and must be able to belt out. Carrie does both of these things flawlessly. Thank you for your great comment fiddleDdee!
I LOVE Carrie singing this song with Patrick Wilson. Carrie could easily be on the Broadway stage with her powerful vocals. Thanks for posting!!! I never heard this, although I remember when they did this Broadway Meets Country, it was during the 2005 CMA's when they were in New York City

actually, you would be hick the noun, not hick the adjective ... but I guess grammar has never been known to be a hick's strongest suit
