Thank you for taking the time to post these videos, Im yet to experience these trials and tribulations, Im currently getting everything together to build a Prusa Reprap im hoping ive made a good move in moving towards building my own 3d printer and that it will turn into a positive peice of kit and not something that will just sit around and not meet expectations.. regards RIchard
Thank you for posting your experiences with your RepRap. I just got my first prints with my Huxley. And it's nice to see your early experiences are so similar to mine. Hopefully, I'll to learn from your progress. Keep up the good work.
i ordered the v6 hotend(the new one you got) and i couldnt get the resistor to fit. but i found that the paint coating was too thick , so i sanded it down a bit and it fit very nicely. i think its better solution than to make the hole bigger in the block. Camiel from mendel-parts should really get some instructions up on how to assemble the hotend .
also mine came with copper washers to put inbetween the brass parts , supposed to help with binding or something, may be important.
The new version (v6) hotend you got is a really good and strong piece of machinery, and I highly recommend it. You can find a small review on my blog.
You absolutely need that tube inside the top of the hot end, what I suggest you do is buy 1 meter of PTFE tube (search for PTFE tube 6mm od x 4mm on ebay). Then you have a lot to spare, as it is the only part of the hot end I've been able to break.
John, my father couldn't believe that I was willing to back anyone on kickstarter under the terms of your project. But I explained to him that the reason I wanted to do it was because I would be able to learn from your experience, and (ideally) get more help from you, than from a vendor. This video is exactly first-hand experience update someone like me really needs. That, and your tube bushings (g) innovation. As a backer I'm still happy to have supported your project. Keep up the good work.
I know what you are talking about (the part about mendel-parts). I ordered the two belts for my prusa there (I ordered two sets of these belts) and guess what, they send me just one set. You hear tose stories everywhere - beside long delivery times it seems very unsecure to order there.
Pretty cool stuff. Looks like there's a lot to learn in building these machines. But I think it's well worth the effort. You're on the frontier of in-home fabrication. In the future, we might all take these for granted, but you're one of only a few who have these things right now.
What specs are the brass tubes? I.D.? Thanks

@karandex I've picked up some RAM heatsinks that just stick on they seem to do the job.

@rooski8 I've moved on to the makergear nichrome wire. Using the resistor just seems like a bad idea now. Pushing a resistor beyond its normal use.

@RepRapRip Thanks for the tip. I just ordered some. Pretty cheap, but I found cheaper on Mcmaster.com oh well. Now I know.

@Upuauta I didn't actually get parts from Mendel-parts. I got them from botmill but they look like what mendel-parts sells.

@GeoDroidJohn Oh, ok. I misunderstood that.
