  • Ok, so that was a nice clip up until the unexpected ending. I wanted to see the locomotives too. Lol, but your lady was not having it. Sounded like when we get dragged to Victoria Secret with them, and we are talking about, "ok, are you done, are you ready, are we sone here?". Nice clip though. I saw a UP Ethanol train going fast through Emeryville,CA. But not as fast as this train.

  • @BLKdurangoTRAINhorns: We would of never been able to catch the frontend of this train. After we dropped down to the speed limt the train left us.

  • I thought freight locos were geared for 70 mph only

  • This is true lol

  • Started out a bit shaky there but finished strong, LOL. Cool post.

  • @THEATREofPAIN270: Wife did the filming. We had no plans to video tap this train. But the fact it was moving so fast, I decided lets film this. As you can see in the video we gave up and the train out ran us. We fell back down to the speed limt.

  • Looks between 65-70. The air drag on double-stacks typically keeps their speeds below 70 at all times. The old ATSF did run 80-85 with the Super C and some other hot "Q" trains in Illinois, parts of Missouri, Kansas, and Arizona. These were trailers and single-level containers in the 70s-90s.

  • Annoying your wife, endangering your child, and breaking speed limits. A TRUE RAILFAN!

Bravo! (I do the same thing!)

  • @moonspots01: We started doing the speed limit again but the train left us.

  • 80 is a little to fast for freights, engineers that i know say 75 is top speed on newer locomotives

  • Frieghts can hit 79mph on long, straight track in curtain states...

  • @dannyb2303: Ok then it was not 80mph but 79mph :)

  • it looks like its going to start pouring down rain

  • The only freight they need that urgently in Texas must be either guns, beer, or footballs.

  • HAULING THAT IMPORTED Chinese junk

  • i don't think any freight engine is rated to go 80... in freight service, I know some UP engines can go 75... your autos speedo is 5 mph fast

  • @alexander1485: The GPS was showing 80 to 85 MPH. The speedo in the car is the same, but at the time I was looking at the GPS. You can see we have a little creep on the train and at that time I'm going close to 90mph. So in the flat area of Texas he might be able to build up some speed some how. And if you look most every video that has a BNSF train go 80mph plus is in Texas. Somthing odd in Texes besides the Dixie Chicks. Don't you think?

  • @IMRROcom maybe BNSF has more loose rules regarding speed? heh

  • Amazing. I've never seen anything besides passenger trains move that fast.

  • Wicked sky out there. Great day to be an engineer.

  • tis a good video, is that your woman we hear? she doesn't like trains does she?

  • Was this west of San Antonio? The old SP line west of SA has 79mph track.

  • @pdlip1 : It was in Texas. Not sure of the spot any more But in the middle or upper texas area.

  • @IMRROcom Probably on the BNSF Southern Transcon.

  • So basically it would take like 5+ miles to stop

  • fantastic!!!

  • grate angle dude .garate video.

  • I didn't know they could do 80! Last time I checked, maximum speed was set at 70 and overspeed was set at 74.

  • @Alwaystrains Max Speed for freight is 70 mph with the over speed set for 74 and for some locos 75 like the SD80MAC's so the 80 mph is over done and not correct now passenger trains can do 79 mph with the over speed set for 83

  • He is making some time. Fastest i seen one do was 75 mph

  • Beautiful!!! In Massachusetts, there are so many hills and towns, and trees that we can't chase a train because no roads stay parallel with the track for more than a mile!!! Nice catch! It looks intense with that storm in the background too!!! :0 :)

  • I wanna catch up to the engine part.."that ain't happening" lol

  • they will do a little over 74mph up to 80 but thats hard to get. the humidity has to be right for the engines to give extra power.

  • @RRYankfan It was Humid. Look at the summer storm boiling in.

  • @IMRROcom i have to ask my freind if it has to be humid or low humidity for an engine to run right. he drag races so hes always tinkerin with his motors

  • It's like a giant speeding wall!

  • @Gooberwalla: Yo Ding Dong, I have a life so We do not chase trains, It's just outside the window. You know about road trips and vactions.

  • Dang! were you storm chasin or railfanin

  • Enjoyed the video!

  • @DardanellesBy108: Thanks

  • Looks like a storm's a brewin'.

  • "Ok are we done for now?"

lmao...kudos to you for braving her attitude, we appreciate the catch :)

  • In Santa Fe days, trains did run 80 mph. I believe they were limited to 70 mph to help with fuel and other contributions (runaway trains, train - train collisons). I know for a fact that trains will run faster than what is quoted on the timetable. I know sometimes to make up lost time, dispatchers will allow certain train to run faster to make up time.

  • that is the picture of commerce!

  • That is a true 80MPH train!!

  • BNSF Doesn't go 80 MPH. The fastest I believe in 70, thats rare.. Usually 60.

  • @K5HLR212 we weredoing over 85mph in the car and could not keep up with it. He must be going faster than 70. The GPS is real good about keeping track of the speed.

  • @K5HLR212 Not 70 MPH isn't rare. About 75% of the BNSF Needles sub and same with the BNSF Seligman and Mojave Subs are 70 MPH.

  • @K5HLR212 You are 100% correct. The units pulling this train aren't even geared for a speed that fast.

  • @trainman2816= armchair quarterback
