I have heard this song..not from 1961 but from June of 1983...I do remember what went on in 1961, though..the year I began living in Montevideo, Uruguay for 3.5 years...also..the year President Obama was born on 8/4...also the year...Alan B Sheppard went to space on 5/5/61... Michael J Fox, Melissa Etheridge, Boy George, and Heather Locklear all born in 1961.. 6/9, 5/29, 6/14, and 9/25 respectively...anso..1961 is the only year you can READ up-side-down too..heeeheee....cool trivia, EH?
OK, this song is a direct rip-off of The Olympics' "Hully Gully", which came out in 1959 on the same label. This was not uncommon back in that day, though...
This was originally the backing track to "Hully Gully" by the Olympics. The Marathons were actually The Vibrations but because it was on another label, for contractual obligations, the group's name had to be changed.
My nickname originated from this song.

Nice copy! I had this as a kid and mine looked like it came out of a trash can, really beat up. It still played though.

Aren't The Marathons AKA The Olympics?
travis7310 2 years ago 4
Not the Olympics, but The label lost a legal battle to keep the real Marathons...so they hired a group called The Vibrations to pose as them.
