We have a beautiful rendition here of this beautiful aria. It's incredible and moving the passion that Marton puts in these dramatic roles. She sings with power, heart, LOVE. How can people miss this point is a big tragedy, for them. Callas was also a great, great singer and actress. How on the earth do some people dare to put these formidable singers AGAINST each other?!? Can't we love them BOTH and be thankful for the emotions they give us? Is it that difficult to just ENJOY music? Be happy!
"stingabe" This Perform is in live,I think that is the reason that Eva Merton it finished thus. Obviusly Callas is onother thing, but Eva is very best, too.
Eva is a very beautiful woman and her voice is great.Callas was an horrible woman and her voice was a disaster.Callas looks dreadful in her Tosca second act, 1956, one of the most horrible women ever seen on stage was M.MeneghiniCallas
Are you Crazy making this comment? Have you heard Callas? Do you understand the greatness of her? Do you know that she was the greatest singer of the 20 Century? This is not said by me, by the way. I understand you not liking Callas, but for you to make this comment it is tasteless. Please read and listen to recordings?
Piruja...le haces honor a tu nombre, idiota: what a stupid comment! Callas was a goddess of insuperable voice and dreamatic talent, and precisely in this Aria she was perfect.
i totally agree with what you say tonicop callas was perfect in this aria so bravo callas but in the other hand Marton was great in many other operas like Turandot
Huh? Loses what? How different we listeners can be!!! To me it's a fantastic, moving "crescendo" bringing me to the tears! Such a voice, such a passion, such an intensity! Brava Eva!
it drags and is too slow in my opinion-this causes the dramatic intensity to wane; in other words she has a lovely rich sound but its a snoozer of a performance for me. if this interpretation is the way eva feels comfortable and true to herself in the music then yay for her, but as i have studied this aria i think it should be faster in a few places and i would prefer it - as i surely have no complaints about the voice itself.
I see your point. The voice is beautiful, but she could have played a bit more with tempo and moved certain phrases along. I have token notice that larger voices (Nilsson, Marton, Norman) tend to need more time to breathe and phrase. Jessye Norman's tempos at times (eg., her recording of Carmen) can be slow the point of exasperation. Other than that, brava Marton
W;ith which ears do you listen with? Callas on stage is one thing.... an actresss. But La Marton sings with her guts! It comes from the entire body!!! Fills you up with this powerful aria, that can destroy many sopranos...
Please....The "B" of Callas is unique, and Marton never get closer of Maria Callas' amplitude....And Callas besides a huge vocal potency, was a excelent actress on stage. Eva Marton is a very good dramatic opera singer and that's all......
I think that Eva MArton has a powerfull voice, and full of emotion, but please leassen this sung by Callas. The end it's breathtaking... For me it's supreme. (I also agree with Ruxton... les gouts et les couleurs)
It's so boring when people say about every singer on here "oh I liked Callas better"- or "she's not as good as Callas. Why don't they get a life. EAch singer brings their own stamp to every role- we don't have to hear about their pathetic comparisons ad nauseum.
I so agree with you Ruxton. And to the Callas supporters: please start accepting that the world goes on and there are many people that, horror horror, may even prefer Marton's renditions to the Callas ones. And, horror horror horror, I confess to be among those. Brava Eva!
and no offence, but I think Callas sings better than her. The tempo of course and something not written, typical Callas. Besides, Callas's B is too emotional for every sopranos to reach... look at Eben for example.
i feel as if her phrasing is to long. Callas allowed the aria to move. This is a beatiful piece and Evas voice suits the aria and the opera itself. I just feel its a bit slow.
I love this. She sings this with so much emotion. It's not everyday that you can get so much from a video recording, I mean it's not as if sitting there, in one of the rows.
Eva Marton's imagination is so huge when it comes to even a most commonly known piece. You wonder others why cannot realize there is this way Eva shows us to sing a song... It sounds the natural flow...
She gives as much as Callas, if I may allow myself this comparison...
Straordinaria interprete di questa grande aria...A livello di Tebaldi, Callas...saluti

Confermo che è bravissima ma il finale in acuto è proprio antimusicale e senza senso.

A lot of singers have resolved upwards at the ending of this aria in a concert setting; among them: Arroyo, Millo and I'm sure many others.
coryisawake 2 years ago
You're right, but I don't like it anyway. I think it's more dramatic one octave below, I agree with musetta67 it doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, it's weird. I personally just prefer a Tebaldi wail at the end..but that's just me.

La voce della Callas è superiore, Eva Marton
ha un gran pregio che canta col cuore ed il suo canto umano commuove,la Callas è meglio per
tutto il resto.
Onore a Giordano per questa meravigliosa
