I believe its called the grain of the voice - ironically, the other well-known exponent of this trait was Kurt Cobain. If you listen to Kurt's speaking range in interviews it has that same somnabulistic drawl to it - and you're right, it makes hearing the answers to the same 30 questions of the time a lot more bearable! :O).
