I live in Houma, and experiencing Gustav even while evacuated was absolutely terrifying for me. The news only wanted to cover New Orleans, so I saw and knew nothing but rumors of my home until driving back in 2 weeks later. Many friends lost their homes and many of us were forced to live elsewhere until flooding fully receded. It's sad when I see more Houma hurricane footage on youtube than from our own local news.
@wow1022 You're the fattest, most hideous slobs of humanity on Earth. Congrats! As if being physically repulsive wasn't enough, you had to go and be illiterate as well. I'm "pritty" sure you're a product of inbreeding, based on your blatant lack of education. Don't breed, please. Thank you.
i remember this...ugh i hate hurricanes so much we went to northern Mississippi and stayed with our cousins for like maybe 2-3 days and we came back and there was no damage to any house in our neighborhood....
@fostystar36 It hit florida the hardest but Louisiana got a good bit of it too. I live in central louisiana and we had, flooded roads, knocked down powerlines, and a tree even fell through my friends house.
Man I cant believe people r out filming this. I Love Louisiana and will NEVER leave. It is home... This is so hard for me to watch and/or talk about. Katrina and Gustov left a mark on us in Louisiana. It makes me want to cry every time. It never gets easier to watch the place u love being destroyed. It changed us all. But we r reliziant people and we will make it, we will rebuild and love our state more than ever!! God Bless LOUISIANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dog, I remember this. Gustav blew out the walls of my room. I lived in the living on the couch for 2 months. The power was off and every night me and my brother would roam the streets with flashlights. The cops found us and were about to arrest us, but he was racist because when we were pulled over a white guy was walking ahead of us. he let us go and he drove by the white guy without saying anything. But I do roaming the streets, and looking at messed up houses & areas. I like/hate hurricanes.
OMG, i remember this. My friend's house got ruined. A tree fell on it. My dad stayed at our house and my mom, me, my moms friend, and her son came with us to evacuate. I didn't like this storm. It was horible. My dogs are now terrified of lighting and thunder...and so am i.
I live in Pointe Coupee and 5 trees fell down around our house including one on my room! We were running on generator and my dad called the sheriff after the worst part of the hurricane. The sheriff said "there ain't an open road in the parish." We got it bad! My school was used for a shelter.
i live in pineville right next to alexandria tree almost crushed partof our house but it didnt straight at us luckily after it fell around 800 clock it actually protected the house from the 80 mph winds now we are have the damage fixed whenthe tree fell it sounded like huge bomb going off
I'm from covington we stayed in st. tammany hostpital. We my mother needed to go out for a smoke i would always go out with her and we were right in the middle of the storm. It was so AWESOME! I loved it even though i'm just 12 and scared of ghosts. I LOVE HURRICANES!!

I live in Patterson i'm 13 years old and i was playing basketboll when the Hurricane started my hose was to far, hahaha i remember when my friends cry hahaah i was teaching them dont do this dont do that theyre afraid hehehe,it was somthing like this.
I live in Baton Rouge and we got hit bad. We had 2 trees fall on the house, thought we were goners. Then the house had to be torn down and rebuilding now.
I live in Patterson which is about 8-10 miles west of Morgan City. The eye passed over my town. We lived in a trailer which was no match for the effects of 2 hurricanes within a two-week period. We ended up losing our roof and interior ceiling to Gustav and Ike and my former home had to be torn down :(
we were in picayune, ms during gustav. i recall watching the cloud rotation from the back porch of my bro-in-law's family's home waiting to see trees fall and snap. thank goodness nothing happened.
Yeah, and when you have a home partially destroyed, when your entire city is without potable water for 10 days, when you have to wait in line for everything from gas to water, I'd like to see how you'd feel.
The thing about idiot "storm chasers" is that they're there while the storm rages. While that can be exciting, it's the aftermath and the suffering of lost loved ones that real people have to live with. You never see them document that. Interesting.
Actually, many do. Or, they're too busy pulling people from the wreckage to film. I've seen it happen here from tornadoes. Spotters and chasers end up NOT filming the aftermath because they're helping people.
I live an hour inland from the Missisippi coast. i thought they were fun too , until Katrina. My town is way off the coast and it got alot alot of damage.

it was worst in Jeanerette, Louisiana because the eye past right over. me and my family was in bunkie and on our way home I saw a build board and the pole holding it up which was atleast 5ft wide and it was bent
I was in the Sorrento/Gonzales area during the worst part of it. (On the northeastern side of the 'cane) I recorded winds of 110 MPH with gust of 140-145 just before landfall and as the eye passed to the west of us.
Stupid people. They issue mandatory evacuations for a reason. If the eye would've come ashore a few miles farther west, Houma would've been severely flooded and these stupid assholes would've drowned.
Without these "assholes" you would not know of impending danger during a storm. I guess the people at the Weather Channel or any of the news channels are assholes to put their people in danger. (It's called HAZZARD PAY!)
How dare you insult weather reporters around the world by lumping them in with these two douchebags. They are not giving anybody notification of any impending danger, they aren't even totally sure of where the storm is expected to make landfall. And FYI real weather reporters are not going in there blind they have plans in place and they have ways of handling emergencies.
personally i love thunderstorm(: but anything over 80 miles per hour i'm either taking a vacation somewhere else or staying waaaaay indoors:) - these are such interesting videos to watch - & important for documentation and 4 seeing and hearing effects of storms.
yea bro im in houma also,i lost a conopy and my little vacation trailor thing was tipped over and the metal from the conopy was across the street(it was in my back yard)and we own waterland use and that has a huge whole in the metal roof and the pavilion looked like a little kid knocked down lickin logs..good luc k and take care
I live on the North Carolina coast and work on a barrier island as a police officer. Once we announce the mandatory evacuation, it's up to the residents to get out. If the storm is Cat 3 or greater, we leave. So if you can't afford to get out, call before it's too late. Someone can probably get you to a shelter. Hope that answers your question.
you have to take into account the inflation factor...hurricane camile would have cost far more money than even andrew or katrina could have ever done.
that was nothing compared to wilma..oh yay hurricane katrina wasnt even that bad. it was a low catagory 3 at landfall the only reason people think it was he strongest hurricane because it killed alot of people..well geuss what it was louisianas own fault did not bild the levees with enough care or renforcements so as a result the levee broke sending in rushing water int new orleans...ive been through 3 high catagory 3s 135mph+so all of you stop complaining..
xLarishx, there was 1 hurricane worse than wilma & it was the hurricanes fault, Andrew, it had winds of 165 mph at landfall, & it destroyed many homes, but i do have to agree with you wilma was bad, i was in delray beach for the hurricane (hardest hit area in palm beach county), i was without power for nearly 2 weeks following wilma.
xLarishx, another thing is New Orleans was expecting another camille, not that type of horror, so stop saying wilma was worst, try & get an overview of far worse storms like the galviston hurricane of 1900. Or even Mitch.
I dunno, i'm just full of dumb thoughts tonight, but your citation of the Galveston 1900 storm (labor day, is this right?) reminded me that this 1900 storm forever changed US history and manmade landscape. Galveston was the 'favorite child' to be the biggest, most fically important city in Texas, the quoted storm showed the vulunerability of Galveston and it was all but abandoned except as a resort/'ex-urb' of the then runner up, Houston. I know, "who cares", I read this book about it....
What a dumb ass you are. Louisiana didn't build the levee system, the Army Corp of Engineers did. Levees are built and maintained by the federal government. Everybody, laugh at this dumb shit xLarishx.
And Hurricane Gustav wasn't anything like Katrina when it His LA. It was still pretty bad, but nothing will compare to Katrina. Watch out for Hurricane IKE, Its Forecast to move into the Gulf late Tuesday and Wednesday. I pray for everyone down anywhere in the Gulf.
Katrina killed Many people, a little over 1000, what r u talking about you dumb ass. I lost 3 family members in gulf port Mississippi, and they didnt get nearly as bad as flooding as New Orleans, so before u run your mouth and say Katrina didnt kill anybody, look up Your facts. And Hurricanes are by far worse then tornadoes. Tornadoes last a few minutes, Hurricanes Last day. I agree with Rotten Treat, you are Ignorant.
im from south Louisiana, hurricanes are not as bad as people make them out to be. Tornadoes are far worse. All gustav did was break some branches and put us all without power for a few days.
No, no I am not ignorant. I said that they are not as bad as people make them out to be. I've been through every hurricane since before Andrew. I know they are by far nothing good, but read the comment again. Katrina did not cause one fatality. The Army Core of Engineers fucked up when building a levee. Levees killed New Orleans. So, before calling someone ignorant, make sure you know what both you and I am talking about. ;)
Who's ignorant? A coastal city a with an average elevation 8' below msl? The army corps of engineers were charged with a feeble goal did as told. The levees were designed for Mississippi River managment in day to day status and not for a nearly 30' storm surge. We've been relieved to see levees help in storm situations in the past, but have always known this was beyond their purpose and that one day they would not sustain. But we waited til it was in our face to react, instead of prepare.
and I agree that tornados make better youtube videos than hurricanes. No assesment about which one is badder than the other....love all the videos guys, thanks for posting and chatting up about it too.
I live in Houma, and we're still waiting to return home. From what we know our house is still there, but it's going to take a while for things to be up and running again. Sad.
God bless you.... May I ask a question? In mandatory evacuation..if you prepare for the hit (water, batteries ...all the weather channel tips...) and then hide out and don't answer your door, hang low....can you stay or do they like check to make sure people aren't hunkered downin doors? How do they enforce it? Curfew? I'm presently as broke as I can be right now...I couldn't not gas up my car to evac if told to. Do tell?
I was going to try and take some video and stills and follow this storm if it had hit in Florida, I was really looking forward to it. I want to get something from Hanna, so hopefully she hits close to the east coast
I watch anything to do with tornadoes and i thought i knew every thing about them, until i was chased by one yesterday in my car. I literally shook. I couldnt believe it.
Gustav's Outer bands are still killing where I live in Mississippi. So far today we have had 4 tornado warnings all really close to where I live. I saw two funnels go over my apartment as well. Amazing stuff.
wow it's amazing the damage mother nature can do. Seeing this, which didn't cause as much damage as others, makes me wonder what people went through in the worst of killer storms.
i accidentally marked your comment as spam and rated it thumbs down, im sorry its actually the biggest stupidest thing i have ever done on youtube. biggest fluke ever, i laughed when i marked it as spam but when i rated it thumbs down i was moving the mouse all over while damnit im sorry lol. i didnt mean it really dude im sorry:(

only the outerbands of hurricanes have thunder and lightning. the inside bands and eyewall have strong winds and rain and also tornadoes.

Lawman449 3 years ago
you have to take into account the inflation factor...hurricane camile would have cost far more money than even andrew or katrina could have ever done.
Dominique1970 3 years ago
that was nothing compared to wilma..oh yay hurricane katrina wasnt even that bad. it was a low catagory 3 at landfall the only reason people think it was he strongest hurricane because it killed alot of people..well geuss what it was louisianas own fault did not bild the levees with enough care or renforcements so as a result the levee broke sending in rushing water int new orleans...ive been through 3 high catagory 3s 135mph+so all of you stop complaining..
xLarishx 3 years ago
xLarishx, there was 1 hurricane worse than wilma & it was the hurricanes fault, Andrew, it had winds of 165 mph at landfall, & it destroyed many homes, but i do have to agree with you wilma was bad, i was in delray beach for the hurricane (hardest hit area in palm beach county), i was without power for nearly 2 weeks following wilma.
NeoCortex34 3 years ago
When was wilma?
youlldietrying 3 years ago
In October 2005, it was the strongest storm to ever form in the Atlantic Basin, it had a central pressure of 882 mbars.
NeoCortex34 3 years ago
xLarishx, another thing is New Orleans was expecting another camille, not that type of horror, so stop saying wilma was worst, try & get an overview of far worse storms like the galviston hurricane of 1900. Or even Mitch.
NeoCortex34 3 years ago
I dunno, i'm just full of dumb thoughts tonight, but your citation of the Galveston 1900 storm (labor day, is this right?) reminded me that this 1900 storm forever changed US history and manmade landscape. Galveston was the 'favorite child' to be the biggest, most fically important city in Texas, the quoted storm showed the vulunerability of Galveston and it was all but abandoned except as a resort/'ex-urb' of the then runner up, Houston. I know, "who cares", I read this book about it....
youlldietrying 3 years ago
What a dumb ass you are. Louisiana didn't build the levee system, the Army Corp of Engineers did. Levees are built and maintained by the federal government. Everybody, laugh at this dumb shit xLarishx.

And Hurricane Gustav wasn't anything like Katrina when it His LA. It was still pretty bad, but nothing will compare to Katrina. Watch out for Hurricane IKE, Its Forecast to move into the Gulf late Tuesday and Wednesday. I pray for everyone down anywhere in the Gulf.
doknocka 3 years ago

My Grandma Has A Fucking Oak Tree Sitting In Her Kitchen.....Tell Her I wasnt Bad.....Ignorant Bitch
RottenTreat 3 years ago
No, no I am not ignorant. I said that they are not as bad as people make them out to be. I've been through every hurricane since before Andrew. I know they are by far nothing good, but read the comment again. Katrina did not cause one fatality. The Army Core of Engineers fucked up when building a levee. Levees killed New Orleans. So, before calling someone ignorant, make sure you know what both you and I am talking about. ;)
ABabyWipe 3 years ago

Look at the roof on the shed from 2:02 to 2:20, it wants to come off
1cliff11 3 years ago
I think we are all glad New Orleans dodged a bullet that will hopefully get their butts in gear to repair the temp levees.
Beware of Ike.. I bet you guys have great interest in that male. He's gonna be what Gustav was not. They'll retire his name I bet.
Lets just hope that New Orleans isn't in his plans.

Do tell?

All of you are good because I would not be out there in hurricane weather, that's why I'm glad I live in ohio, even though we get tornados.
