@SherdX10 Damn....hopefully they will make a game for the public like this. It will make up all that money that they spent making the game. The army gave them 57 million dollars to make this game after all.
It's a Mil-Sim designed for the U.S. Army. Unless you're willing to spend between $1500 and $3000 plus on a license, you'll never come close to it. That's even if they ever release a civilian version... which I doubt. Not too mention it doesn't even run like a game. It utilizes a 360 degree panoramic screen where the user/users wear helmet mounted HUD's, BDV's, and a back-pack sensor system.
@RealTimeImmersive Will it be possible to get licenses for private persons? E.G. for a Tactical Simulations Clan? Do i need a NASA computer for it? Will it be moddable?
@lizettenazaire Engine is made by CryTek and RTI is not affiliated with the Army i think. But anyway, i love this, even though im pretty sure there wont be any private licenses to sell.
I think its awesome they added SketchUp model import. That program is free :D! I have it. Now when this game comes out, I can insert my Marathon class cruiser >:D. MUHAHAHA.
@galaxy366 Well, the website said... "licensees in the serious game and simulation market space." The serious game section leads me to believe it will be sold to civies also.
The only downside to consoles and mutliplatform games is that they have to be marketed to a larger audience, which ends up making some games more dampened or casual than they otherwise would be, in order to gain more sales.
But that isn't directly the consoles' fault, as the devs aren't "forced" to make their game a certain way. It's a conscious decision from them in order to gain more recognition.
It's a tough market, and it's not wise to take risks. Which is why there are so many COD clones.
Devs must adapt to lower hardware so they form more efficient ways of coding and streaming assets, which then are used on PC for the betterment of all games. Because if the games run better, they have more room for extra graphics effects, which of course makes them look better. If it weren't for consoles PC games would either look worse than they do now or be alot harder to run.
if consoles were not holding gaming back...Cryengine would have some amazing games out by now...The engine was and still is the most amazing looking engine out there right now.
Day/night transition is nothing new, or great. Red Dead Redemption did it, wonderfully well in fact. So did Gran Turismo 5 ( inarguably, even more wonderfully ).
The thing I'm looking forward to see more of is the "Advanced Integrated Physics" simulation, that was cool stuff.
And can anyone explain to me about that real-time cave creation thing? What's so great about it? Isn't it possible with other game engines?
@srav953 Engines on Consoles lack many things compared to game engines used on PC, because console hardware doesn't have the hardware or resources to render game engines advanced as ones found on PC like CryEngine 2 which is far better than what's capable with CryEngine 3 on consoles. CryEngine 3 was really only made to be scalable which means it does its job on consoles while also being able to cater to high end PC hardware which will be the only platform to take advantage of the engine.
@srav953 The real-time cave creation will make it easier to implement caves into a game also it will most likely end up in the Crysis 2 Sandbox 3 Editor which will only be on PC.
To clarify what I mean; I was thinking about making a mod for CryEngine3 if it gets modding support. Porting models, maps, functions from A2/OA to CE3. Sounds interesting doesn't it?
Well, I don't know, it's an idea so far. I've got tools and some knowledge, and have some experience with game modding. If I got a chance to gather a team of dedicated people, I don't see why we couldn't pull this one off!
@chabi3000 Because their main focus now is the VBS Series and the militaries from multiple countries pay them a lot of money to support it and constantly update it. They just said never, but they might change their minds who knows?
@PvtPittmann1stIFF WHAT THE FUCK ! That can´t be . Who will develop the next Mil-Sim then ? How can they disabandon us ? We supported them . We all bought OFP 1 and Arma 1 . WTF !

@PvtPittmann1stIFF But VBS is not suited for a game like experience . The community wont grow because nearly no people have acces to it . We need a new ARMA Game . I hope Bohemia will think about it and release Arma 3 if they have enough money .
@chabi3000 The community is actually pretty good for VBS2. Its small yea, but serious and people get along and help each other out. But maybe ArmA3, no promises though and I wouldn't save money for it :P
@sgtsn1per omg dont even say that cause yeah.. good bye to my social life.. haha well not as that but yeah it would be very good n very expensive for a pc to run that.
lmao..cryengine 2 dumbed down for consoles, is known as cryengine 3...cryengine 2 looks better, and yes, the only reason this is better is in performance...cry engine 2 was badly optimized...thats why it was really hard to play crysis at relaly high, while warhead was a lot more aceisble
@Erectionproblem It says 2010, and it looks like 2, may already have had some features of 3. I assume when you license Cryengine you get access to all their updates so it really isn't as static as it would have to be to just put a number on it like that.

But it looked like a updated version of cryengine 1. And I hoped it wasn't cryengine 3 cuz that would have been a stap backwards, and It either didn;t look like Cryengine 2.
@Erectionproblem Cryengine 3 is no step backwards. On consoles obviously it can't be better than Crysis cause of the limitations, big surprise (still looks damn sweet though). But on PC it's a highly optimized version of CE2.
I totally envy guys who work on stuff like this for a living. Absolute dream job of mine. I don't have the skills though, so I'll just bow gracefully to those who are creating the most awesome tech around. :)
Hopefully the engine going multiplatform will actually benifit PC Gamers, for consoles they would have had to optimize the engine due to dated hardware, so this means that we will finally get a CryTek engine that does not require a $10,000 computer system to get >30fps
@ut2k4wikichici since crysis, gaming tech hasnt progressed at all because of consoles. we have very powerful hardware now but no use for it except maybe metro 2033. plus there are hardly any dx11 games.
@Harpreet06 its not dx11..dx1 is just tessellation...and maybe a few more tweaks, what we need is true dx10 games with dx11 features...i know dragon age 2 will use dx11, lets see how that looks
@elpibepiola1984 Sorry, but DX11 is more than just tessellation, it greatly improves lighting, better texture formats, and plenty other post effects. It work a lot better with high poly models too.
@KralTube2 It's probably more Crysis 2 that is being kept within the limits of consoles, but yeah, they could do a lot, tessellation is the first thing that comes to mind, a pretty big jump in graphics, but no mention of it in cryengine3/crysis 2, unless I'm mistaken. But just think about what cryengine4 might be capable of :D
@KralTube2 This is a BS comment, consoles are not stopping the effort crytek is putting into the PC version of the game. Consoles will run at medium graphics while PC will have up to Very high settings, Dx11, Anti-aliasing, shader-mods and high-res mods released by skilled community members to beef up the graphics even higher, stuff consoles will never have. You can even use supersampling on PC's to achieve even higher visual quality standards... Learn something before you speak next time kid.
@KralTube2 Dude the things you see on PC are only possible BECAUSE of consoles. Without consoles, Devs like Crytek could NEVER have attained such high levels of optimization, which leads to better use of hardware, which leads to better looking games.
@ern1989 Crysis was made on PC originally because of a low budget. Crytek alway wanted to develop for consoles, the only thing stopping them was the limited RAM and budget.
Consoles are good for the gaming industry. Without consoles, Gaming would never have risen to it's current popularity. It's now "cool" have the latest gaming gear whereas people used to be seen as dorks playing games in basements.
Will this game be released to the public? Please say yes :(

Hopefully the engine going multiplatform will actually benifit PC Gamers, for consoles they would have had to optimize the engine due to dated hardware, so this means that we will finally get a CryTek engine that does not require a $10,000 computer system to get >30fps
ut2k4wikichici 1 year ago
@ut2k4wikichici since crysis, gaming tech hasnt progressed at all because of consoles. we have very powerful hardware now but no use for it except maybe metro 2033. plus there are hardly any dx11 games.

@Harpreet06 its not dx11..dx1 is just tessellation...and maybe a few more tweaks, what we need is true dx10 games with dx11 features...i know dragon age 2 will use dx11, lets see how that looks
elpibepiola1984 1 year ago
@elpibepiola1984 Sorry, but DX11 is more than just tessellation, it greatly improves lighting, better texture formats, and plenty other post effects. It work a lot better with high poly models too.

Could you imagine how insane CryENGINE would be today if they weren't having to keep things within bounds of what consoles could do?

@KralTube2 umad?

@ShadowWulf14 man,i hope you are joking!! in 2007 crysis was made only for pc!!!what he hell are you talking about??Consoles are pc's ruin!
ern1989 1 year ago
@ern1989 Crysis was made on PC originally because of a low budget. Crytek alway wanted to develop for consoles, the only thing stopping them was the limited RAM and budget.
Consoles are good for the gaming industry. Without consoles, Gaming would never have risen to it's current popularity. It's now "cool" have the latest gaming gear whereas people used to be seen as dorks playing games in basements.
And More Sales = More support = Better games
