When I first got to this stage in Sonic & Knuckles all those years ago, my jaw was on the ground. It was intensely beautiful and felt like it pulled everything together as the two main characters were finally united against a common enemy.

Also, I fell to my death like 400 times. But still!

@miles305678 I know this is hard to understand, but the main characters of Sonic & Knuckles were Sonic... and (spoiler alert) Knuckles. Tails was unplayable without the Sonic 3 lock-on, and he wasn't really a part of the S&K storyline.

Although if you add Sonic & Knuckles to Sonic 1 then it fails and comes up with a near blank screen (if I remember correctly) and you have to enter a short button sequence which unlocks the Sonic 3 special stage mini game where you get to play nearly any possible stage (including ones that aren't in Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles).

If you want to play as Knuckles in Sonic 1 you'll need to download a modified rom and an emulator.

Just remember not to hit red spheres ;)
