  • terrible orchestra

  • wow she's amazing

  • if you dont mind could i make a critique?:)

You can listen or ignore up to you yea?

Firstly.. well i think your starting was a little rough and you could improve on that. When the solo comes in, its usually an amazing moment, and its like the prime part of the piece. Your techniques were good but i guess you gotta improve a little on your intonation? other than that its mostly fine:) Cheers dude you're really good:)

  • @xeldonrag Thanks for watching! you can check my other version when i was 14, is better

  • Ahha..found you on youtube!!!! Now I can listen/watch whenever. No substitute for

Santiago in live performance though. Looking forward to you and Edward King in Tauranga on 17th September with Opus Orchestra!!XXX

  • This makes me want to kill myself! I've only just got to the stage where I'm technically secure enough to play this piece, and I'm 21! =/ haha, amazing job for an 11 year old!

  • Utter Genius!

  • I feel I will prefere your 14 y.o. Haydn...... =) Hugs:)

  • You've come a long way baby!!!

    Phenomenal!!!

  • I think there is only 2 possible solutions for this video

    1. You´re not really 11 or

    2. you have started playing about 3 years old and practised since then 8 hours a day.

but sry i just can´t believe you´re 11. You look a little like a teen

  • @TheOtto1151 Thanks for your comment and I want to tell you:

    1. I´m 11 on this video, it was in April 2007 and I was born in May 1995 :)

    2. I´m starting to learn cello when I was 4 and a half years old and I only practiced one hour or less in this time. now I´m just 15 and I practice between 3 or 5 hours, depending if I have some performance. You can check my other version of this concert when I was jus 14 :)

  • sry...but i cant believe he is 11...

  • @15cellist Well, I´m sorry if you can not believe but I´m 11 in this video:), is true

  • Wonderful music!

This is beautiful. 5 stars ★★★★★

    Erika Ragazzi

  • His face as a good lookout for an actor to play Harry Potter! :D

  • simpre he pensado lo mismo jajaj , XD

  • well, lots of comments mention his lack of facial expression;obvioulsly, he is listening to what he's producing. Let him grow up,he may express then whatever he is expected from evrbdy to xprss. I wish him a brilliant career , if it's what he is dying for.'hope he's got the choice!don't know how it works, whn u're talented;do you have to do what's expected from a person with that talent, or you can become a gardener,a physicist,an astonaut, a salesman if you like? A happy life to you Santiago!

  • uggh, no wonder it sounded horrible, they didnt even tune properly...

  • the orchestra is total shit

  • Absolutely

  • this kids def not 11

  • Yes, he is 11 in this video :)

  • If you had had shorter hair: 1. You would have looked like an eleven year old. 2. You would have looked like a boy :-).

    Congratulations for the music.

  • Even taking the fact of the classical period, the period that this concerto was written in, this performance lacks intensity and conviction.

  • A good sounding Haydn D at....11?! He and Matthew Allen will, I'm sure, be the two cello masters of the future....

  • Maravilloso! :)

  • are you sure he/she's 11-years-old?! o.0

  • Yes HE is

  • Well, HE is really extremely good for an eleven year old.

  • Could we get the 1st violinists to PLAY IN TUNE? please. BRAVO to Santiago Cañon!!

  • haha agreed..

  • ha ha! Nice john, you totally dissed the first violins. The kid is good!

  • Props to the guy! It must have awkward being filmed. He was looking directly into the camera at one point!

  • is it a man or a woman?

  • boy, right?

  • m2f rather.

  • That was really awesome!!!! Keep doing your best! This really inspires me cause I'm around your age! (I'm using my sister's account) :p

  • jajajajaja

  • Look at Feuermann who is one of the greatest cellist. He has no body movement and no facial expression. I would prefer this style than those who over act.

I am hopeful Santiago will be one of the greatest.

  • agree.

  • No he is not!! off course that he is not, I´m his mother, he is a normal boy!!!! he doesn´t like to play with facial expressions, that the way that he plays, you can watch the other videos if you want, he has 34 in this moment in the same count: luisca2007

  • Santiago... Lo hace muy bien!!... es un gran placer y honor para mi concoerlo, y., en serio... siga con ese poryecto, que yo ce que a a llegar muy lejos...

    Cesar Sanchez...

  • He looks like Harry Potter...

  • He is not good. In my opinion he is too young to play this concert - I mean he dosen't have enough technic to show emotions.

  • I agree with you, except in the part of the technique, I only think he is too young, so he hasn't lived enough to know what emotions to show, in my opinion is like trying to play blues without knowing what love is like. Still, he'll be an excellent cellist in some years.

  • do U play cello??? he IS good. just because he doesnt show enough emotion to u doesnt mean that he isnt good enough! he does show emotion and he is amazing. the shifting, the sound and he is in tune

  • He has a very good sense of intonation! Fantastic =)

  • quien es este tipo?!?

  • fingering is more like "secure". and don´t forget, his cello is nothing special

  • that black dude in the violins is the best!

  • yes I agree with MArk!!! Bravisimo Santiago!! This piece is one of the steps towards climbing THe Mount Everest of cello playing.

  • I've just had the privilege of watching and listening to Santiago Canon play this Haydn Concerto, here at the University of Waikato (Hamilton, New Zealand). I'm no afficianado of the fine arts, but this young man (and he is only just 12 years old) has a gift. No matter what his critics say, he's going to go places and we should encourage him along the way. The world is a better place when we are given the opportunity to appreciate talents like this.

  • not bad..for an 11yo (not sure about that). very strange fingering though. to make it look more difficult maybe..

  • ummmm...not a strange fingering at all...do you play cello? didn't think so.

  • well seems that you never played haydn. I've seen noone using that fingering, and i find it strange that's all.

  • just look like harry potter!!

  • i feel mad D: that person is 11 years old and im starting to learn this piece at 13 . . .

i feel embarassed T_T (unless if that person isnt really 11)

  • So i'm learning it at 23.

  • Yes, well people learn at different rates. Not many people get to this piece at 11 years old.

  • psh i haven't even learned the other haydn concerto and i'm 16...frikin kabalevsky...

    *mumbling about how i suck*

  • so she couldnt tune her damn instrument BEFORE going on stage.

    no that would be stupid

  • dude ur retarted!of course HE tuned it before. u obviously dont play an instrument. he was practicing like crazy b4 stage probably and ALWAYS when ur on stage u check ur tuning!

  • "She" is a boy!!!!!

  • im a cellist of like 5 years also. have u ever played with an orchestra? its almost like a tradition to tune on stage. except u usually check. and HE did tune with the orchestra. just not the whole orchestra but the concert master. and HE didnt do it with the whole orchestra because he came in earlier

  • beautiful

  • hmmm .. i dont know.

  • i read comment on another video saying that you did not have a teacher right now, how much self teaching have you done

  • wow. 11 years old? hahah dang.

  • This is a decent performance, especially for someone so young. Technically it's very strong. However, there's a certain musical maturity his performance lacks that only comes from life experience. So Mr. Cañon, obviously very talented, is off to a very impressive start in his career.

  • such great playing. I think he expresses himself beautifully

  • your technique is AMAZING, but the way you play the piece is somewhat dull... i guess what i'm trying to say is that you need to play a little more expressive, but that should come in time. when i was your age i had terrible technique and no sense of expression. Now i'm 16: my technique is still horrible but my my sense of expression has gotten a lot better :P

  • LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

beautifully said! by the way..what does mean "expression"? :-D

  • she is 11!!! Post your Haydn

  • HE is 11

  • im assuming hes talking about the artistic way u use vibrato and dynamics to convey a certain feeling?

  • You play very well. Could you please tell me which edition of the Haydn Concerto you are playing? The International edition by Gevaert/Rose is different. Is this the Henle ed. or Gendron?

  • Though there is almost no personal expression in the young cellist's playing, his technique is very well tuned for his age (although some stiffness in his right elbow might cause concern later). Once he discovers how to express himself in the music he will likely be a great concert cellist.

  • You look and sound like a grown man!!! You have no technical problems, and I think you will be one of the greats! I would, however, leave the big concertos for a later moment. Haydn D is very demanding, not just technically. But you will come to this by yourself. Congrats, pal!

  • thanks, pal!!

  • not much music there and the orchestra sucks. but for eleven years old he's great.i'd love to hear him in 10 years...

  • Ok, I hope to play excellent now, in ten years, I hope to be an excellent musician, I need constructive critics. I´m sorry, I speak spanish.

  • he is eleven years old

  • sorry, but very boring to watch, not much emotional involvement. sounds very good and accurate though.

  • es el primo Carlitos

  • Una verdadera maravilla, Santiago realmente es un niño prodigio.

Mil gracias a su tio Carlitos por hacer posible ver estos conciertos.

    Gracias, Margot V. Prada
