The OS the system is running has no difference to how long it will take to run, and if it did it would mean the computer that takes longer to load has most likely more feature, as there is more to load.

anytime you ad a program to your computer, be it a pc or a mac, your gonna increase its boot time, that is because most programs have built in components that are programmed to run on start up, if you were to take a moderately powered pc, remove all the crappy software from the manufacturer and reduce it to a bare os, then take an equally powered mac and load on the same os, they would boot at the same exact speed, because the hardware is all the same

Now I have no problem correcting people's spelling and grammar, but only after I have corrected their inaccurate computer based statements.
@yesimstuntdude old computers boot faster because they are bare operating systems, put a windows 98 machine next to a windows 7 machine and the 98 will blow the 7 outta the water every time, as long as they both meet the minimum requirements for their respective os. The same goes for the mac vs pc startup times, mac has a more basic boot up sequence than pc so they start up quicker, but that is not windows fault, it's because the higher end companies that make pc's load them with tons of crap

It is true that amount of, for lack of a better term, "stuff," is also a factor. But then, why would an XP machine with 40GB of "stuff" boot slower than a Snow Leopard machine with 200GB of "stuff"?
Although, as long as the computer boots up withing 2 minutes, I'm good.
@robloxianstuntdude first of all, show me a snowleopard machine with 200 gb of stuff booting faster than an xp with 40gb of stuff, then tell me the hardware, cause the mac could have a 500GB hdd that runs at 7200rpm and 2GB of ddr2 ram while the pc has a 80GB hdd that runs at 5200 rpm with 512MB of DDR ram, all of this stuff has an impact on the bootspeed

not bad for xp, mine was a bloody nightmare. but all my own fault though, had about 30+ things going on at start up. i still dual boot with xp. i use win7 all the time. but there is very few games that "don't" work on win7, so if i cant get them going on it. which aint often. i use xp. @liammcclean0510 why would you want it to? Why is boot time that important. Surely what's more important is what the system can do after it's booted. Windows can do more than just make sideshows as illustrated by the 90%+ market share and huge businesses working on Windows. It can also play games and edit/create/design all of the same media a mac can. problem is, it costs thousands of pounds for a mac that isn't the epitome of shit.

MAC's think they are so great because they never crash or get viruses...LIES!!!!!! It's all lies! I have used a PC for over 10 years and it suites my needs. No one beats my awesome start up time of 3 minutes 52 seconds! Nah, I'm running a brand new Dell PC with Windows 7. The start up time is around 30 seconds or so.

it depends how you define a mac, if you mean its simply a hardware base and OSX has nothing to do with it then fine, but that is incorrect as a 'mac' comes packaged with OSX and it is windows that can run on the hardware, so that's a feature of windows. not mac. surely Windows running on a mac is just a testament to Microsoft's ability to program an OS that runs on a varied hardware base.

my comp is a quad core AMD (phenom II) with Nvidia 9800 gtx graphics card, 4 gb ram, and I won't bore you with the other stuff, point is it boots in under 25 seconds
The problem is, Although I can help you speed up your start up a lot of the time its to do with a good combination of hardware. What I expect is that the PC that I have on here that boots windows in about 28 seconds because it has old hardware and the most recent drivers are with the windows disk and they may all be digitally signed, sometimes is just pure luck. What I will do is make a video on how to speed up your start up, but I can't say it will make it boot this quick
Apple sucks. there products spec wise is good the size of there mac books is grate and the hardwear ant that bad. but there over priced, i dont know about there pc but ipods fuck up all the time and i meen all the time and most of all everybody and there dog has got one because there stylish. i would rather be unique and have some thing that know one else has got.

@yesimstuntdude old computers boot faster because they are bare operating systems, put a windows 98 machine next to a windows 7 machine and the 98 will blow the 7 outta the water every time, as long as they both meet the minimum requirements for their respective os. The same goes for the mac vs pc startup times, mac has a more basic boot up sequence than pc so they start up quicker, but that is not windows fault, it's because the higher end companies that make pc's load them with tons of crap

It is true that amount of, for lack of a better term, "stuff," is also a factor. But then, why would an XP machine with 40GB of "stuff" boot slower than a Snow Leopard machine with 200GB of "stuff"?
Although, as long as the computer boots up withing 2 minutes, I'm good.

My discontinued HP Pavillion w/ 1GB RAM, Athlon64 3700+ and NVIDIA GeForce 6200SE TurboCache boots in under 15 secs to a login screen.
It runs a modified copy of Slackware Linux (64-bit).
Also a tuned Windows Server 2003 can boot in less than one rotation on the boot splash, with a 20 second boot time.
That's on older hardware, sorry but Macs aren't as great as people make them out to be.
PC doesn't have to mean Windows, but Mac has to mean a Macintosh ;-p

The problem is, Although I can help you speed up your start up a lot of the time its to do with a good combination of hardware. What I expect is that the PC that I have on here that boots windows in about 28 seconds because it has old hardware and the most recent drivers are with the windows disk and they may all be digitally signed, sometimes is just pure luck. What I will do is make a video on how to speed up your start up, but I can't say it will make it boot this quick
