sorry this is a late post, but i wud like someone to solo ringleader with a shadowmage...and i dont mean just kill them, i mean the right way, like this, and this build is kinda useless in a fare few quests... such as RINGLEADER...and i think most the higher level stuff is longer and more spread out so it is easier to be a shadow mage. but i never got to 5+ on a SM so i cant say anything... great build on most quests. please do a ringleader vid with a low lvl toon tht is SM

ive got a shadow mage, with 1 lvl thief for the traps and doors, use pk & finger, arcane bolt/blast, very effective. im lvl 16 have solo'd most of it and ijust switch my spell selection for groups. above all its a versatile build and fun, but soloing lvl 10 quests and higher on elite is tough but its not a walk in the park for any build

An this build would be so brilliant if there weren't so many quests where you have to kill things that have clustered minions (that are to much for one player to fight alone), and its a useless build if you want to play with others... I should know, as i had a shadow mage.

@matthewlane You may have had such a build, but sounds like you didn't figure it out too well. Owning a gun is not the same as knowing which way to point it.

@ArcaneConstruct Actually its more like owning a gun, when you know you are going to be underwater... The gun is suddenly significantly less useful.

The shadow mage is a specialty build which is not good at working with others & dies almost instantly if you missteep at any level above 10 due to the way adventures are structured & victory conditions are layed out.

Situation B: Player B with Build A cannot get Result A.

Mattie here has come to the illogical conclusion that the factor hindering him from getting Result A is Build A, when the real factor is that he as a player needs to be carried, in his own words, in any quest "level above 10" to the end. He can't see how a build that others have used to solo epics could work differently in the hands of a clown.

I didn't say it was impossible past level 10, i said that a single missteep is almost instantly lethal & that its a build that does not play well with others. The truth is that past level 10 there are a lot of creatures with area effect spells, blanket dispell magics & see invisible abilities. All of which get worse if you happen to be playing with others that don't respect your non agro area.

@matthewlane no, I understood what you said. What I'm saying is that you are having those problems because you suck. A well played shadow mage is extremely hard to kill, not just beyond level 10 quests, but right up to epic. If you are dying almost instantly when "mis-stepping", then you are messing up something that is pretty hard to mess up.

@flute136 Ever hear of insidious cunning bonus? That plus the fact that you can run some quests quicker stealthy than in a full party, means more xp per minute. It gives you the option to switch between stealth and arcane zerg. Either way with a little practice you'll find if xp is all you're after that in many cases solo is quicker, and the skills you'll pick up will make you more useful for when it's not.

one thing that bothers me about using this build and style now. nowadays summon monster summons the creature right next to you instead of where your mouse is pointed. (if im wrong please correct me) so there's that problem about diversion. another thing is that practically everything breaks invisibility now. I think this would be a great build to use, its just harder now with the new rules.

Meh killing things is the easiest part to go within quests.

Using wits and skills is for the more advanced players.

There is a special kind of reward into knowing that you got what you need from a quest and you did it in style XD

LOVE the whole philosophy thing. Very good job. Still, I've got some questions: 1.) the first map you were on, isn't that the waterworks with the kobolds? I've never seen that set of enemies in that dungeon. 2.) How could you get a Warforged character to stealth that well? They have natural demodifiers against it. 3.) This one's just a quick tip to the readers: use the grease spell. If you do it right, it'll distract any enemy long enough for you to sneak by.

cool - I've only played DDO a little. I was trying to play solo like this with a new wizard but probably didn't get the numbers right. I think finding groups to play like this, (rather than racing through dungeons as fast as possible and leaves my head spinning "what happened?") would be great.

@rekinu5 They have "see invisibility", and invisible is not the same thing as hidden (derived from your hide skill). Other than that, their spot skill is nothing amazing. I don't know why I've also heard so much to the contrary from other DDO players. Urban myth, I guess.

Sorcerers: More spell points(A LOT more), less spells at their disposal than a wizard, and not being able to change spell book as often

Wizards: Normal amounts of spell points, Have many spells to use, and can change spell book at any time in a tavern or after using a rest shrine.

Personally, I like Wizards more.

wizaqrd can learn every single arcane spell, but has less mana and uses intelligence, and gets a bonus to will saves

sorcerers get the most mana in the game, but are can only use spells selected when lvling up, unless you talk to the trainer, and then wait a few days, and can use UseMagicDevice, Diplomacy, intimidate, and they use charisma

@ColPicklejar Sorry about taking so long to respond. It's a solid general wizard build that works great for normal group play. Run into a difficult objective, or the party's about to wipe? Just vanish from the situation and come back to either gather up the soul stones or quietly pick off the objective.

One of the greatest mis conceptions (I'm looking at you) about this build is that it slows things down. Stealth can often mean (when fine tuned) that the party can't keep up with you.

@esgoteiro Invisibility means the sound he makes gets noticed, so they will move towards it slowly to investigate, but they don't turn hostile until they either bump into the invisible bard or until they are fascinated, although it's too late then.

@Celestrious Its based on the game that invented the RPG genre so its quite complex and evolved which adds a lot of depth to it, it plays like an action game and every quest is unique and has its own instance exclusive to the party.

Its a party based PvE game that doesnt have wide open spaces so theres no need for traveling, which makes it much easier to just go in, play a quest for 30mins, or a raid in 1h30ms and log out.

@Celestrious It has an amazing class customization system that allows the mixing of 3 different classes to make totally unique player builds. Its only got 20 levels but it has an rank system that adds class benefits during in between.

The payed content can be unlocked by accumulating points doing quests, and once purchased it doesnt require subscription to accessed and there are many in game benefits that can be achieved by paying or just playing.

Yes. That was on my old video card, I have the graphics turned up a lot higher no, but that's only half the issue. It's also a low res video, so no matter what the graphics actually look like in game, they're going to look a lot worse here unless I make the file larger.

actually, as a person having played a ton of different mmos, this has by far the nicest in game graphics of any game i've played. I could make comparisons, but this is by far one of the nicest LOOKING games i've ever played...and it's free at that!

Just mind you, this video doesn't do it any justice (just like the rest of youtube), and read the post ffrom the guy who made this saying that he was using a low end graphics card when he was making the video. GLHF!
