I'm using a vintage product from Audiocontrol as my 2 way electronic crossover. Its called the Phase Coupled Activator. Its basically a bass restoration thing and a 2 way crossover in one. I'm only using the crossover portion.
could anyone give me a parts list and a chart for a 3 way crossover ? . Bass : 125w 35-3000 HZ mid 45-4000HZ 60w high - 2500 - 20000 30w. please help , it's a speaker project that i've been working on for a looong time and this is the last big obstacle ...
well i have a 2-way stereo 3-way mono x-over from behringer and its simpel as hell you got 2 gain 2 nobly things to set youre hz range for the mid low than you have youre mid low volume youre mid high volume and in the center you have youre sub output you have youre mute butens on the output and yourepolerety switch and a low cut switch next to youre gain its a cheap but verry easy thing to run
briansredd, unbelievable that is beast. this is directly from someone who s the shortest on his team but finish alley dunks. I followed the training program at (50 inch vertical [dot] com) and gained more than 13 ins on my vertical.
I have friend that used to own a pair of Realistic three-way speakers that was produced around mid to late 1980s. He always fried the voice coil on them! I witnessed grey smoke pillowing out the HF. No wonder the idiot had the HF on the EQ turned right up! Ether he had nulls poor room acoustics or piss poor hearing. The cost was around £10 pounds to replace the HF, thats cheap, but to do it twice is careless.
lol Ive crossed over to the dark side of audio to Behringer DCX2496 for my JBL control 5 LCR matching fronts. I can tailor my JBL for any flavour as I feel fit to suit the type of films.
Passive equals distortion! Active loudspeaker management crossover systems equals lower lows and higher highs with far less distortion that I have come to like in THX sound system cinemas like the worlds most powerful 56KW JBL THX Empire Leicester Square, London
I have an equilizer and i want to put in a crossover? Where would i put the crossover? Would i need to get an addition equilizer to put after the crossover to each channel going to my 2 seperate amps? Or do i even need an equilizer?
With the DCX2496 I can if I had the money can split the LCR up into a costly 6 way! Or if I had the money for the dbx4800 THX I could go to 8 way! No thanks at £3.5K each! DCX2496 at £220.00 affordable!
Some drives have different sensitivity ratings and frequency response program handling power. So if I wanted to produce higher, higher highs Id need some very smart JBL compression drivers and that would cost a lot of money for LCR fronts!
excalent!!!, but, the crossover is then for proffesional audio arrangements(I believe), but for amateur gigs, do you think a sonic maximizer would do the job for a pair of 3 way speakers?
there are 3 types of x-overs high pass low pass an notch. usaly a 3 way xo will have a hi pass and a set of notch(instead of just a low pass to get rid of the ultra low bass also known as a subsonic filetr)
x-overs have 3 different types of slopes(usaly)6db,12db and 24db
now you think i will get a x-over withe the 24db slops or 6db slope(talking about active x-overs)the problem is you can creat a null between the mid and high
do you have to have two amps to use a crossover? i guess what im really asking is if your only going to use one sub do you need a second amp or a crossover to make it work without blowing up your shit.
Well, for subs, you need to do a high pass filter of probably 120 to 90 khz to get pure bass out of your sub. You should have some other audio source to play the music 120-90 khz and above. Otherwise, all you'll hear is BOOM!
If you want to do a 3 way mono crossover set-up, it'll work.
However, I'm guessing you want to do a 2 way crossover. SO, I do not recomend a 3 way (just like I said in the video). Stop looking at price and start looking at the gear you need to do the job you need done
mate what u say are Filter Active and Passive, Crossover make audio resonnance and if u are a mobile dj u need to have an crossover to create a good sound on the bass ;)Every hall need a new setup ;) So a crossover it`s like an EQ with many many bands ... 1 band for every frequence :)
You should remember this is JUST an introduction to what crossovers are and what they do. I haven't gotten into specific settings in any of my videos yet. If you have a video with more detail, I welcome you to use it as a video response to this video.
EQ is to balance the overall sound, it can not be compared to a crossover. If I have 1 amp and 2 full range speakers then I do not need a crossover, if I have 2 or 3 amps then I need a crossover to separate the sound. It is impossible to plug 3 amps into an EQ. Yes, you can balance the sound with a crossover but only to distribute the sound between the speakers. An EQ can be added to the crossover to balance the overall sound frequencies. You can also use a compressor or sound enhancer.
There are also some people who are using the XTI amps with build in crossovers. They limit all the mids and highs to their subs which is good, but they fail to realize they would need either a crossover box or second xti to limit the lows from their mains. After all this, they get subs and complain their mains are still clipping and theres an awful sound in the bass.
Yeah the XTi and iTech amps from Crown offer this and that's fine as long as you are running these amps in pairs or sets of 3. This is a relm I haven't gotten into yet. Still waiting for them to be time tested by others and maybe a second edition. Once the bugs are worked out, that MAY be a nice route to go
and see thats where you went! I love the new amps.....might be worth getting when i next come to the states....a nice pair...as the vicar said to the pornstar....
That video is just what ive been looking for. Ive always put a crossover in my mind to get but didnt know how it ultimately worked, Thanks to this video i just bought a 2-way, amp, and 18" sub. Great video, keep it up...
Yes, usually the speakers are stacked. The higher the frequency, the higher the speaker. Aim to get your horns at ear level or higher, so the sound doesn't get absorbed by the crowd.
The thing with bass is it's non-directional so they can go on the floor and vibration will be felt anywhere around the sub. Highs and mids, though need to be up in the air. You can stack them OR "Fly" them like at clubs or tripod them, etc. Great question!
nice video. Much appreciated

Hey Brian - What's Up With Crossovers?
barrycheng08 1 year ago
Most subwoofer amplifiers and radio's already have crossover filters. And real sound processors would be overkill for a car.

You would put an active Crossover before your amps, and having an eq is fine and it should be used. But thats your prefernce
