What a sweet machine. It was built when men were men and women were women and everyone grew their own food! Ya gotta love it!! Thanks for sharing!!! :)
That things a beast. I have an old Ariens rototiller. A Rocket V. Probably from the late 70's early 80's. They used to build things to last. Nice vid.
We had one of those when I was a kid. Man did that thing work great! My dad taught me how to crank it when I was about ten and after that all I did was till!
Your right that is a very machine they dont make them like that now... now they have those little mantis tillers... I'm fortunate to have montgomery wards gilson one that is big like that one... It is front tine though so i wish it was rear tine like yours.....
have the same tiller and we use it 6 times every year since 2005 when we bought it looks almost brand new the guy had it in his shed after his son rebuilt it
My uncle has a Wisconsin AHH engine similar to the one pictured in your video ( great video by the way ) he got it off of an old Ariens Model B tiller years ago, its now attached to a four-wheel drive tractor he made, but the engine needs some gears and other parts, any idea where one can get parts for the old engine ?, thanks,
I have a 1954 Ariens C1 22" tiller (video is of a model B), with Wisconsin AFH engine, 3.25" bore X 4" stroke. It weighs 725 lbs, has 6X12 tires. Cast iron with all gear drive, built like a battleship, makes the old Troy-Bilt horse look like a little tin toy. It has a fixed governor, max rpm is set at governor and should be run with throttle lever wide open. It can till 10" deep first pass with no noticeable strain. The model D had a 2 cylinder THD, the model A had a 4cylinder AAH
I have one just like this. Wasn't sure of the year. Only had to rebuilt carb & clean the mag. Will till sod in one pass 8" deep. Good to see that others are still out there working. I use mine every spring. Best yet.
sure dont makem like that no more. those old wisconsin engines were bullet proof. pistons the size of syrup buckets and a stroke as long as my arm. not a high rpm engine but had lots of low rpm torque as demonstrated as he made a pass at just off idle.
your not kidding. i've got an old allen bradley with a 15 hp transplant. the only problem is the pulley on the engine shaft is much larger than the one that was on the original 3.5hp briggs&stratton... if you can stand on the furrow plow, its like riding a jet ski...
i got an ariens TA-28 trans-a-matic being shipped as we speak. its got the two cylinder wiskey on it. i'm excited!
...and its got compression like a som-bitch... if the carb wasn't so gunked up it wouldn't be so bad, but trying to keep the choke in one place and pulling that damn rope... you get tired for sure...
what a suprise to see this video, our company started in 1933 with the first tiller in the USA, we have a museum dedicated to our history in Brillion , Wisconnsin, where we still proudly manufacture the Ariens product. we will replay this video in our museum, so happy to see you video, thank you for this.
Good thing that was soft soil or that old monster would of rip your arms out of socket, lol. I love seeing the old Tillers and how the newer ones have benefits from them. I think I will stick with my BCS over these old antiques any day. but thankfully we have learn from the past to make the new one so much better ;)
nah them big heavy s-o-b's won't jerk. they weigh far too much. its too bad the Troy-Builts aren't heavy like they were back when they were Milwaukee Equipment.
Imagine that - Ariens made a rear-tine tiller in 1948, and we got stuck with the front tine models from the 60's! Wish I had this type - a superior design, and of lasting quality. Thanks for putting up this video!
Visit your local Ariens dealer and see if they have one in stock. LOL!! If they still built a tiller like this today, I don't think anyone could afford to buy one!
looks like it could! i love it! but my little roto ette is good for me! i just fixed the engine today! yesterday it ate up a half quart of oil in a couple hours of tilling! the poor old briggs! needed rings!
sweet!

On a hot day that tractor will till asphalt, till hard clay like compost. If I could find one like it i would buy it in a heart beat.
