i dont understand why Americans (at least i think it is Americans) put fruit, pancakes, waffles jelly (or i think it is jello in your case) on the same plate.
why use dried patatoe im mexican and we do everything freshly becuase its healthier then those preserved dried patatoes we buy peel and shred and wash them its better cheaper and it tastes better try it
@Sargentsullivan1000 I think you are missing the point. I do make hash browns from fresh potatoes. However, these potatoes are for long term food storage. I have a food storage for emergency situations or in the event that hyper inflation sets in and we are unable to afford such niceties as has browns. This has nothing to do with not using fresh food. BTW, there is no nutritional difference between the fresh and the dehydrated and there is not cost difference, pound for pound. Research.
in the UK we dont have things like this ..are food is so expensive if they did have that product them potatoes would cost £20 around $30 dollars boooo :(
I have to watch all your videos. I'm allergic to bisulfites though, doesnt that suck..they are in a lot of stuff. If I grate fresh potatoes is the process different for making hash browns? Does some of the moisture need to be leached out of the potatoes first? The potatoes need to be dryed off or something I think.
i just tryed making the hash browns and they were dilicious. At first i thought they tasted a little off but then i started to lovee them. Thanks for uploading that video it really helped :).
do you think the honeyville #10 cans are a good value? 1.25 lbs of dehydrated potatoes must be the equivalent of what...10lbs of fresh potatoes? I want to store potatoes but want to get the best bang for my buck...long term. 10 year shelf life is good. Is there a better option?
@thenodnarb Yes, there is a better value, but it requires a bit of work. I am doing this now. Get yourself a good dehydrator. Buy frozen hash browns and stick them right on the trays frozen and let them dehydrate. This eliminates a step of having to actually "check" or place the raw potato in boiling water for a few seconds prior to the dehydration process. The freezing process has already done that for you. Get the hash browns on sale and you will have lots of hash browns stored up
As a college student on a budget this seems like a great breakfast / brunch idea :) I believe we have the Betty Croker dehydrated potatoes here in Canada.
@altoids79762 OH OK, but if you store water like you're supposed to, that won't be a problem. A rainwater collection system helps to as does a superior water filtration system and living by a river. Also how is cooking food wasting water? AND studies show that within 2 to 3 weeks of a SHTF situation, most local wild game would have been hunted. Leaving you starving and coming to look for food in other places. I'll take my chances and "waste" my water. At least my family won't be hungry.
I am right now eating a big bowl of Honeyville grain's Farina (Cream of wheat), I worked hard all weekend, and it has BUTTER all in it, MMMMMM!! I am almost done prepppping, got almost 2 yrs of food stores and canned meat, 8 months worth. Going to lDS SAt for more food!!
Great vid!! I get all my stuff from Honeyville to due to great pricing and a shipping cost that is amazing. Also they have a killer 15% at times which really cuts down on the cost. Just bought a case of potato dices for $39 bucks but then they jumped to $59 bucks a week later so you have to keep your eyes open.
I stumbled on your channel and I immediately subscribed to you, love the way you make things easy when your in a hurry Love all your recipes. Looking forward to more recipes from you.
Smothered (w/onions)! lol. I also like them covered (w/melted cheese). Looks great especially with the bacon and fruit on the side. Mmm...and it's breakfast time here... Thanks for the inspiration.
I like Honeyville Grains too. I've also done a lot of my own dehydrated "stuff" and vacuum sealed it in ball jars. It seems to keep forever (in a cool, dark environment). Mushrooms and tomato slices are two of my favorites. Fresh mushrooms don't seem to keep that long and I love not having to worry about it.
Plus, the dried mushrooms and tomatoes are great for just plain 'ol snacking! Oh, and dehydrated food works really well in both the crockpot and sun oven.
@Michigansnowpony OH, Yeah! The Sun Oven is my next major purchase along with an excalibur dehydrator and a Nutri Grain Mill. We have been blessed recently and we are able to afford getting these things that I have wanted for so long. That sun oven has been at the top of my "Get" list for a while. This prepping thing takes time to acquire but in the long run you do save time and money doing it. Do you like using your sun oven? I have seen your vids and it looks successful. Noreen
@atticus9799 -- I LOVE my sun ovens (I actually was able to pick up a second, unused one on Ebay for cheap). But, I'm in Michigan and we have our fair share of over-cast days, especially in the winter. It still works, but full sun is where it really shines (no pun intended). Down where you are, a sun oven would be extremely practical, especially to keep from turning your oven on in the heat of summer. I know what you mean about all the prepper gadgetry -- takes a while to accumulate.
This makes me wonder about all of the people who bought those "Y2K" dehydrated packages way back when. Is the shelf life nearing it's end? Maybe there's a potential here for a whole series of how to videos in preparing all of it!
Thank you for introducing me to those; what they are, how to get them, what they actually look like, how they cooked up, etc. They do look very good! I hate wasting my moolah trying something new, and it turns out I hate it after one bite.

To rehydrated onions you should use ice cold water and let it sit a minimum of 2 hrs. It leaves them bright white and makes them taste way better!

They look delicious! One question - did you have to dry off the potatoes so that they didn't steam in the pan as they cook? Just curious.

Very cool but you know that your eating GMO potatoes. Cook and dry your own from red potatoes, they are the only ones that are not GMO franken food.
