A very young Bowie! His British accent was very heavy then. He has lost much of that now living here in the United States. I can understand him much better now but I adore the British accent. I love this man beyond belief. Thank you for posting.
HARD to believe that when he did this song, people didn't want it and didn't like it (assuming what I've been reading in Stardust is true). Gotta admit though there has to be a reason it seems to be all but forgotten, which is a damn shame because I love this song, it's hilarious! I think it shows he had great talent when he was starting out.
Heard this one on the radio last night. I just had to look for it, even though I couldn't find it under the "singer's" name which the show's presenter said was Ivor Bird! Thanks for posting, xxpiggystardustxx.
yes, have heard Oscar version on Bowie covers album. Expect that was the miner hit I knew in late 60's. To think that turned out to be wrote by Bowie!
I've always wondered since first hearing this, was the part of song "all coppers are 'nanners" wrote by Bowie, or did he sample it from already known song, as I knew this as a kid in late 60's?
From which year?

The first time I heard this, I assumed that the lyrics were "All Coppers And Artists" which is what it still sounds like to me.

Bowie wrote this..in 1965..so when you heard it in late 60's, this was what you heard.
And it's " Nanas..short for Bananas..not nanners.
