rapid cycling is having 4 different moods within 12 months? Guess what, people have altering moods all the time, children have altering moods all the time - it does not mean they are bipolar. Why is it when a child is depressed and talking of suicide no body ask about what is going on in their home lives and instead they get shipped right to the dr and put on meds???

I lost all my emotions, my inspiration and my love for the world. People dont realize that the more they feel the more colourful is the world. My son has been on so many medications that I can't count...mood stabilizers and stuff for ADHD. He's now in residential day treatment but every doctor, therapist, psychotherapist, etc does not want to diagnose him with Bi-Polar. He's been on medication since 4 years old and is now almost 9. Every research I've done from documentaries, videos, books, etc point to bipolar, but no one will listen. How do I get the doctor's to listen to me although I'm not medically qualified to diagnose?

I have it, my dad wont put me on any kind of medication and so it gets really....really bad to the point that if im angry i could severly hurt people i care about if im sad i go completely suicidal and have almost sucseeded...multipul times.... i also get very hyper at times and my moods jump all over the place, im only 13 at the moment =/

I am a christian and I have bipolar 1 disorder in which I had as a child I suffered for 25 years undiagnosed. The pain is something that can't be rightly measured. I have learning disorder and have been label adhd, suttered, mirror view, etc so believe me I not only educated with degrees and work in this field, but I have personally suffered emotionally as well. You can continue to suffer or you can get educate and over come the choice is yours.

I was morbidly depressed starting at about 14 but wouldn't be diagnosed with mania until about 23. The problem is that anti-depressants don't work and so I would imagine many teen suicides come in with this undiagnosed. They don't want to diagnose a child with it because of the "stigma". It's wrong not to seek out a proper diagnosis including bipolar.

Um, excuse me down there! but childhood bi-polar disorder DOES exist,

because i was diognosed at 13, ( a few months ago) it started out as me (at 12) Depression-smoken, drinken, self harming, never sleeping, hardly eating, mood swings & sucide thoughts.

Manic-New ideas, talking rapidly, thinking i was the queen, always had 2 do something, binge eating & spending ALOT of money, i once spent £55 on sweets!

There is kids like me put there living with this horrible mental illness!

Childhood bipolar disorder does not exist. It is a fictional diagnosis that does not appear in the DSM-IV. If anyone tells you that your child has bipolar disorder, I would ask for a second or third opinion. Probably, it is some physician who is a puppet for pharmaceutical companies who have him or her paid off.

I agree, many children as young as 3 are given medications to treat them, but are they really being treated, and how sure are doctors about this. How do we know its not a behavioral problem. Its best to ask for a second or third opinion. Being manic/bipolar is the third level of depression, how many episodes/mood disorders can kids at a young age have. I think they are just tantrums, and can be treated w/out medications. They tend to get dependent on these medications once they stop they suffer

Psychological problems at times stem from ones environment/ surroundings. Nature Vs. Nurture is a good theory to study. A good support system at home is the key in many cases. My nephew was told he was ADHD and we opted for a change and worked with him instead of putting him on medications. He is doing well and doesnt have any behavioral problems. If we would have put him on meds he would probably still act the same. Im against medications for young kids. America is over-medicated in my opinion

To meet criteria for Pediatric bipolar, does a child have to be talking about dying or wanting to die at the age of 3 or toddler age? Or is this just the case for some of the bipolar children?

wow sad music *tears*. i see a counselour/psychologist and have been only seeing her for about 2 months now. i started in june. based on everything ive told my counselour she said its a high chance i may have bipolar =[.

now i have to see another doctor to find out if its bipolar or sumthin else. =[ ive had most of these symptoms so chances are i prolly am bipolar =[
