You are living proof as if why we should be natural. Look at how dull damaged and short your permed hair was verses how healthy full and long it is now.
I really love this video. Your transformation is really amazing. I love the different styles you have, especially the ones with the braids and the afro. I did my B.C. 1 month ago, I can't wait until my hair grows out like that. Question..how do you get your hair to slick back like that? I have been trying to slick my hair back in a puff but it doesn't go well.
Being white, I only learned recently what black women have to go through to process their hair. I really resent the pressure that women feel to conform to a narrow definition of what is "beautiful". It's inspiring to see women resist those pressures and create their own standard of beauty.
I love, love natural hair. It looks so healthy, beautiful and thick. You look amazing. Good for you.
@squeakel Oh dear! You do know that a simple blow dryer will straighten most black people's hair. Your sentiment maybe be nice but you're generalizing.
@squeakel My point was it's different for all of us, it's not as if all black people have the same hair. For example, it's not always "thick" when natural.
But I totally agree I enjoy when ANY person resists societal pressures to conform to commercial beauty.
@WhoCares3001 I just meant that natural hair generally looks thicker than hair that's been straightened. That's usually true of curly, wavy or kinky hair - no matter your race. Hair with texture almost always looks thicker.
@squeakel Generally speaking, yes, you're right about that. I thought you were saying something different.
Just a couple weeks ago a white co-worker (who has curly hair) said that black people need to "process" their hair or "wear weaves" in order to get it straight because their hair is "too thick".
I thought you were saying something similar. Apologies. :)
Inspiration....Inspiration is the best word describe your video !!!!! I had to rewind the section of the video several times to where your hair appears to be relaxed & flat, it was like looking in the mirror at myself. To see how thick & beautiful it looks now is like pure INSPIRATION !
Beautiful hair and great video! I am making the lye to natural transition but I am clueless as to what products are best for conditioning. I have read that Taliah Waajid and Carol's Daughter are good products, so I guess I'll check those out. Anyhow, thanks for showcasing that beautiful hair of yours, love it!!!!
This was the first natural hair video that I saw that really inspired me to go natural.. I think your the reason why so many people have decided to go natural..After I saw your video, I noticed that more people began to post natural hair videos..
@sweettwinky86 Well thank you so much!! I agree...I'd like to think I was the inspiration for the hair journeys and for a lot of women going natural and that makes me this all worth while! I need to do more vids, but like I've stated in other vids, I was just bored on day and decided to make a video out of my pictures. Never expected it to get so many views! But thank you and others for watching and well wishes with the rest of your journey.
@B5Bryanlova13 this video had inspired me a year ago. And I have never been so in love with my hair. Its so healthy and I love watching it grow every month. I wish you well on your joruney It is very fun and a learning experience.
I have always worn my hair black and really want a change after wearing my hair natural now...we have the same skin tone...what colors did you dye your hair? I cut my hair off in May and have been wearing a 1 inch trim boy cut no tape in the front..LOVE IT...but now Im ready to let it grow out...I like your process, and your hair looks so healthy...please give me some tips...and please dont forget the hair color details..ready to color
I have been natural for 6 months now and I am loving how my hair is growing out. I would like to know what you used along the way to manage your hair.
What do you do to your hair to make them natural and curly beside the big chop. I dont want to know what you put in it but what was your everyday routine if you don't mind me asking. Thanks in advance.
Oh I -3 it !!!! You have fine hair don't you ? Mine looked the same way with a relaxer ! FREEDOM !!! those different colors are giving me life ! and the growth!? !
Im a teen and it hard to go natural with all your friend tellin you not to.! But I dnt care I want natural hair...nd I dnt know you could do all those different hair styles..Thank you:)
@NaturalMzHazelIz I didn't experience any breakage after coloring my hair because I kept it conditioned and moisturized which is important when coloring your hair. And yes, Texas in the house! lol
I used to follow you on Twitter. I'm glad you made this video. You are beautiful and your progress in going natural gives me hope. I BC'd 2 weeks ago and I'm still testing products and stuff *bleh* Keep up the excellent work!
Fantastic!!! Your natural hair is defineately much more beautiful, an expression of your heritage and uniqueness, something to be proud of! Plus it's just fricken' funky as. Something I'll never have as a "white" chick.
Oh man. Watching this video makes me so proud of you and all my sista's who have taken to loving themselves instead of hating! I'm seriously considering going natural! It's just, I live in England and afros are not seen where I am except for on TV! I guess I should just stop being so ashamed of myself and just do it! Blessed be!! Love you all x
Black man here and i like to say i love Black women with natural hair styles. Really show me she is super confident in her self, and its sexy and they can style it in a million way. i got love for my African Queens and yeah not all black guys are jerks, i am a gentleman right here so keep on marching on. one day i hope to find my Black or African queen.

i love it!! i did my big chop and in a few months it will have been a year. How do you keep your hair from breaking so that you get consistent growth. So far my hair is growing healthy and fast, but I'm not sure what keeps natural hair strong.
@midnightbaby1989 moisture! (water, lots and often!!) ;-) from someone who has 4c/b hair and it gets dry super fast and regularly so you need to spray/wet with water, add a moisturizing leave-in your hair likes (Giovanni direct leave-in or Cantu Shea butter for me) and smooth a natural oil over it to seal afterwards (EVOO, Jojoba, coconut or a blend of your choices) I add a tsp or 2 of JBCO but it makes my hair itch for a bit I find; maybe it's an active oil and is stimulating...hope that helps!
I like your hair. Glad you posted this video. I am trying to go natural. No chemicals for about the past 6 months. Still don't have the guts to cut it yet.
@IndoJimbo wow, first off who cares that your a white guy, sorry but round these parts that gains you no brownie points and makes your comment no more relevant than the next, one would even argue that it makes your comment that much more IRRELEVANT. Secondly wth is the cotton ball look? If your referring to our natural and beautiful afros than I suggest that you check yourself because your ignorance is showing. LADIES stay away from simple minded white men who reject that which is uniquely ours
@esha112681 - We don't always have to be so swift to think statements that critique are attacks or insults. IndoJHimbo misspoke (he may not have realized it) but he also made his appreciation known. All I'm saying is you get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

@esha112681 sorry, i guess i miss read the last statement where he said "...just stay away from the cotton ball look ", i thought he said "i like the cotton ball look". shame, my bad.
I recently did the big chop December 9, 2010. Yay! I'm so happy I had the guts to finally do it. I was gonna wait until January 1, 2011 but I just got too excited. It feels so good to finally be natural ! I transitioned for about 6 1/2 months before the bc.
Your hair is so pretty I love it! Thanks for the inspiration to stay natural. So far I'm 6 months natural and counting. I plan doing the big chop really soon.
I've been natural for a year now. I've always wanted a 'fro, but I'm scared to do the "big chop". So, I just keep getting my hair re-braided about every 2 weeks...
I am so jealous! I've decided to go give up the relaxer process and looking at your hair inspires me. i know it's going to be a long process, but i'm excited. thank you
great video. You know everytime I see a video like yours it makes me think, why the heck did we ever relax our hair in the first place??? I know for many of us the choice was taken away by our mothers and their mothers before them, but it's great that so many black women nowadays are making the (positive) choice of going natural. I have nothing against women with relaxed hair (I'm only in month 1 of being natural) but I just think healthy, natural black hair is so beautiful!!
Hi, I love your site, Please stop by my blog and shed some of your ideas, it's for all my girls caught in the tug of war b/t being natural & the 1B, 22in, this blog is for you:
When I was making my final decision to go natural, this was on of the videos that confirmed my decision. Thank you so much for it. It helped give me confidence in my decision. :)
When I was making my final decision to go natural, this was on of the videos that confirmed my decision. Thank you so much for it. It helped give me confidence in my decision. :)
Your hair is so beautiful! Ur the reason I decided to go natural! I did my big chop on 9-22-10! I wasn't even thinking about going natural and I came up on your hair journey! Love it! Inspiring! God Bless!!!!!
I think your hair looks BEAUTIFUL even in the blonde not many people can rock that color like you do.I myself is going natural and hope i have the same success as you are having
Hey Girl. I love your hair! I just cut my hair off and I'm trying to figure out what products to use.. Do you have any suggestions? Also, can you look at my very first video?
Want to get satin head gear? Vory Clothing has satin head bands and pillow cases that are all good for your hair! Check out our page and visit our website!
I am going natural and i want to know what do u use to hold back your ponytails? We have similar textures and i love having a slick back is what i call it and i want all my fluff to be out. regualr ponytail holders dont work and headbands im thinkin wont work either..what do u use? love the colors
Wow! So much growth in 2 years. And most importantly, your hair looks beautiful and HEALTHY. This inspires me so much! I did my big-chop about 2 months ago and was starting to feel discouraged, but this brought me back up. Thanks for this video. :)
im still apart of the lye crew but its going to change soon.... but im soooooooooo scared... i want freedom from not having to perm my hair cause ive gotten to the point where i hate going to the shop. I cant do the whole chop off ur hair thing and wear it short so how else would u say to do it...? Thanks
who sings this and the name of the song....love this song. it motivated me to continue being natural since im in the transition stage which is REALLY hard
I SO LOVE IT!!! I AM NATURAL GOING ON 7 MONTHS NO MORE LYES 4 ME...I THINK ITS ACTUALLY A LIL LONGER THAN 7 MONTHS...VIDEOS TO COME SOON...LOVE UR HAIR ITS GORG!!!
You've made some real good progress. Hopefully it will be an inspiration to other women out there. Your hair looks so healthy and gorgeous. Can't believe you've only got 8 videos. I'm sure you could offer a tip or two. Keep up the good work.
First off u look adorable & ur hair look great so all those 19 shady, ass holes who clicked Thumbs Down can just download & look at more fake, plastic women w/ fake hair, tans, breasts, etc!!
2ndly, l did the same exact thing u did at :33 but 4 a different reason. & My dad said, ''U got a new nigga hair do''
l did it b/c l wanted 2 try a natural. Just like l was fiendiing to try dredlocks (which l did do when l finally had an escape from Amer. 2 Jap. & ABSOLUTELY NO bl. hair products)
you have beautiful...i bc after 8 months have not had a relaxer in a year and everyone asked me why did I ever get a relaxer...i love my hair...your hair is great
Hello Megan. Your video is nice and your hair...beautiful. I decided to go natural as of last year. It's been a year for me w/o a perm. I love the various hairstyles in your video. I take that you went to a stylist in Dallas? I currently live in NYC and I need a stylist that can do natural styles similar to yours and more. You encourge me to stay natural and I know that I will find someone in NYC. Keep it up :0)

I so agree with u...WTH is wrong with these straight hair people?
First of all who give a damn about his opinion... we love our natural hair!!!
Secondly... WHAT THE HECK IS HE DOING ON HAIR VIDEOS???? smh he seriously needs a life.

So, I just keep getting my hair re-braided about every 2 weeks...

great video.

Hi! I'm just curious, what kind of brush do you use? And how do you do your ponytails? [Not pulled a skinny hole, but still a wider hole]
