One of the best sounding Strats is the Squier Standard Strat, it has Alnico III pickups which are brighter than Alnico V pickups,Ive got one and love it, no need to mod these, the sound is fantastic...try one, plus it has the cool 60s/70's headstock...poppa

@MitchRulzWorld with stock components, for sure the mex one, but here (where i live) a mex strat cost almost 5 times the sx, so you can have great pickups, new hardware and an sx spending less than the mex, and then really no match. there are much better cost-quality strat than the mex (bach, vintage, even sx but it need some work and new pickups). i suggest you to buy something else if you want a good sounding strat without spend a lot. anyway stock mex pickup are quite poor, need a change too!

@MitchRulzWorld stay in tuning is 85% the nut and the rest from bridge and tuners, if you use lightly the tremolo bar (for heavy bar using there are other problem). sx has very cheap nut, tuners and bridge. fender mex has chep nut, tuners and bridge. so is better than the sx, but if you consider the difference in price and the fact you have not a good guitar with good pieces, that's the point. intonation need to be setup in any guitar, especially under 1000 euro. i can suggest a bach guitar, if

@MitchRulzWorld there are tons of fender clones, the written "fender" mean not they are better than "mr unknow" ones. a guitar is a mixage of parts, tone come from lot of components but especially from pickup, and a good set of pickup is not so expensive. sx is very cheap, and most of components are quite bad and need to be changed but woods are usually decent, with a similiar level to the mex (depends on model). but the mex too has pickup and other components that need to be changed so there is

@MitchRulzWorld not a great difference. the mex guitar you ear here has 20 yrs, is in alder (many recent mex guitar today it isnt), and has almost all hardware changed. play very well, not for their price, play well and stop. the stock components of this guitar was not very good, it wont play good because is mex but because i put good parts on it. this is true for any guitar, is not a brand problem, is a quality problem. sx are very cheap, but can be improved. there are better cheap

@MitchRulzWorld ok, but please read well i repeated 3 or 4 time in previous reply... seek for "vintage" and "bach" brands, and their strat models. stock components are pretty good, play much better than a mex strat and cost almost bethween an sx and a mex, in euro almost 200 but i dont know where you're from. vintage are cheaper in uk so seek for someting from there like dolphin music, guitarbitz or similiar. bach are from czeck republic, are rare to find, but you can order from their homepage

@rafport I guesss Schecters are the best choice. They jave great components like tonepros bridge, tusq nut, grover tuners duncan pickups, etc. I don't like the look of Vintage guitars.

@MitchRulzWorld you can find in your country, they has usually a good setup and has decent bridge and tuners, and a cheap nut (anyway it cost 1/3 a mex and is much better from several point of view). even vintage guitars are of similiar quality and price, much better of the mex even if the wood is not alder as it usually should on strats. if you want save money with quality you should buy a cheap brand, not a expensive with a cheap model, because no one want the 200$ model play like the 1000$

@MitchRulzWorld ebay. in us there is rondo music (sx is spanish, all obviously made in china). some music shop but seek for price online, resellers are expensive respect online buying. i repeat there are more brand, sx are a good base but if you are not skilled in changing parts there are better cheap strats with a price bethween sx and mex like vintage or bach. buying an sx strat and leave as it is stock is not a choice i suggest, even for a cheap guitar

Thank you for your answer ! I definitely agree with you, and i'm planning to change the vintage tremolo too. As far as my researches on tremolo systems lead me today, i've noticed that wilkinson seems to be actually produced under the gotoh licence, isn't it ? I deduce therefore you've got a VS100 model ;)

@sangeee i really don't know, this bridge is quite old, my bros play too and is older and i find this bridge in a old box, so i guess it has at least 10 years old or more. it miss the bar and it was difficult find one who fit :) stock bridge is noisy, mine at least, and add a lot of unwanted vibration

54 and 69 are really different tone pickup, so you should choice thinking about your taste and what you're going to play. both are very good :) i'm in love with this one and with vintaged low output strat pickups
