For some reason I think that this song has to do with his troubles with a publishing his music and what not, "Judas" being some manager. But idk, just a guess :J
so fucking cool i mean like really........ this is one of those songs that should go down in history as an all time great.......( put the gun down..... just put it down)
@Karlito7teen It looks to me like a Martin OM-28 reissue. They can be a bit a expensive, especially for your first guitar. Do yourself a favor and buy something like a Takamine and wait to buy a pro guitar until you can do it justice with your playing.
Its artist like this that people should be praising in the 'media' good music, meaninful lyrics, and a propa singer. intstead we hav 'Keshia' sell sex. shame.
@fuzzisham@nalleg "blonde headed kid with a left handed guitar"-he is talking about kurt cobain. he was one of the few that played left handed. i got the chance to meet cope once and he confirmed himself. super cool guy...
Before I was really into Citizen Cope a friend sent me this song on the day Heath Ledger died. He thought this song would help ease the pain of him passing, seeing as me and him were close. After listening to Citizen Cope for a while I finally looked up a picture of him. When I first saw him for a second I thought it was heath. Maybe its the resemblance of the two or the beautiful music this man plays but regardless I cannot stop listening. Truly a master of music.
He says "Judas came up to D.C. He'd been down in Georgia for a while He drove a 944 He bought with the soul Of a blonde-headed kid With a left-handed guitar"
Meaning it wasn't the blonde-headed kid he was talking about but the one who used his soul to buy the 944 with. most likely a record exec who signed the "blonde headed kid" and wanted to sign cope. As to who the left handed blond headed kid its up to interpretation
@nalleg Wouldnt that be weird if he meant Kurt Cobain? I dont know how I would feel about that. But he was a blonde-headed left handed guitar player. Maybe like you said, just personal interpretaion. :)
Damn. Alot of musicians can't play for shit for live audiences. But wow. I think he might actually be better live. Can't wait till he comes back to the west coast.
Judas who betrayed Jesus for money may very well represent a person's inner demons or devil and the next line "been in Georgia" may be in reference to the song "Devil went down to Georgia" but now he is in D.C. out to get Citizen C.O.P.E.
Does anyone know anything about COPE?? This song is about his fight to overcome his herion addiction, and his attempted suicide. His son, who did die during his addiction is what prompted him to get clean.
I don't know if this is of much help, but here's what I've figured out... for the first chord I would play 3rd fret on the A string, 5th fret on the D string and open G string. For the next chord, just move one fret up on the A string. It sounds to me that he's using an A in the bass (5th fret, 6th string) at least for the second chord, but I'm not sure.
My interpretation of the song is that Judas is the narrators brother or someone close to him, "since I was the age to speak, haven't you been listening". He's been betrayed in some way and has come to DC for revenge. Judas finds the closest thing to the narrator, "found the woman that I love, and he fucked her down" and uses her to get to him.
I think Judas bribes her with drugs or money and in turn she takes him to his alley (where he deals) "she told him where I live, off ninth in the alleyway". The 3 golden bullets implies how personal the revenge is, and how he is shooting for his soul. Now as Judas stands across him with a gun aimed for his soul, the narrator plays his guitar as a weapon, "my voice it was cutting him up".
The first shot grazes his eye, and the second knocks off his guitar moon, and he keeps playing with nothing to lose. Judas either realizes his revenge has no power over the strength of the narrators soul, or that he is the one that deserves to die, "He turned the third on himself cause the bastard knew, salvation."
It's a gift in itself to accept who you are, and then bring the understanding that surpasses it all in a unique way.I love nature, it's peaceful,
relaxing, ya know:)this is him, all he felt at that moment(JOY). The beauty of a gift with such passion is the secret to the road less traveled, Keep it Funky Citizen's Got SOUL!
- Salvation means that you and I must change to become a new creation. God by His Holy Spirit will change our nature to make it holy. Our heart will be changed so that we will love all people -- even our enemies. We will hate sin and walk in the light.
not everything is literal in his music . It's like a poem you can interpret it however you want but only he knows the exact meaning, but it's apparent that he draws from true events!!
Judas drove the 944. Although I don't believe that these lyrics are a completely true tale, you can tell something happened to his rght eye. He has a scar in the "Salvation" video.
"first shot grazed my eye I lost half of my sight and my first borns life" ok so is this song about him i can listen to this over nd over agian i love this song its my favorite for sure. but havent u ever noticed that one of his eyes looks a little messed up and i diffrent color maybe its just me<3
Definitely one of my favorites, but I have many as Cope is amazing. The "blonde headed kid with a left hadned guitar" isn't Jesus lol! I'm sure he's referring to Kurt Cobain. I believe this song is about struggling to not let drugs and other things overcome you in life, and personally, I think he's also speaking about choosing music and life as opposed to killing yourself with other things. My two cents.
Hey does anyone know which chords he's playing? Would be most appreciated ;)

This song is about oweing a drug dealer money, but the complexity of the lyrics make it a much more deeper song.
"You should have let the smack get you" he said "But now you've got to deal with me instead I'm downstairs on the Motorola
You know I've got 3 golden bullets
And I'm shooting for your soul"
That's ^ genious. I pictured all that in my head.
