  • Thanks for the advice, I'm not singing, but I'm playing bass guitar in front of my school tomorrow. Some of the advice helped, so thanks.

  • THIS HELPED A LOT THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!

  • thank you i think that i have a good voice but i have horrible stage fright that leads to shaking or dizzyness and i would like to sing in front of others but when i have such a horrible stage fright it makes it almost impossible to do that. i think i need more help but i dont know how to get that help.

  • Im going to be singing on stage for my first time ever but in my mind it doesnt look very scary but i know ill be scared when i get up there, i know i have a good song with a great message but i just know ill be really scared when i actually get up there but for now im fine.

  • What The Ffffffffeeeeeling! Lol i thort u werr about to swear. Haha anyway i loved this thank u i hope it works for me! :) thanks again!!

  • Hi its Maurice Again This Video Helped Alot especially the Example of Whitney Houston perfect example!! very detailed love it keep em comming

  • And again it makes a lot of sense, I suffer from bad stage fright, my voice tightens up I panic! I have spent too long singing songs without emotion for fear of shyness and letting go, but when I do find that place of release I know thats where I want to be, your words ring true, its not about me its about the song.

  • There's an school talent show at my school but im terrifed to do it should i ?

  • @BUBBLES86401 Go for it! You have nothing to lose-you'll really regret it if you don't! :)

  • OOOWIE I started getting my praise on as you were speaking. I really needed this video. I sing well live and often at gigs. I get self concious about sharing my gift and you helped put performing live into perspective. Thank you.

  • @tailback43 same here

  • A great message Dileesa, the people are more interested in the music more than the person singing!

  • thx ive try it =p wahh i sung at our campus and all the teacher principal and me altimate crushes is there.. soo ive remember your tips and it help XD

  • I'd imagine the crowd was wearing underwear but then I would laugh in the middle of my performance. xD

  • hi Dileesa

im loving your videos but have a question........i was wondering if you there was a way to get over my fear of singing without music.......whenever there is no music i limit my voice. I bring the high notes down and go into almost a whisper....which ruins it. The only way i can currently sing is with the music on really loud so im almost drowned out and have to compete to be heard.......is there anything i can do??

    yours sincerely

    LucasDaBu

  • Bless you Sista! I just watched your vid on ad-libing and I must say that you cracked the code for me to understand my own voice. I haven't had and pro. training but my passion is music mainly singing and now thanks to you and your wonderful voice I now understand my voice. Stage Fright, oh boy! I had bouts with it a long time ago, I froze, I continued but after I was so embarassed, I got over it though. Now I will won't have isses with it anymore. Thank You

  • Dear Dileesa,

Thanks so much for this video!! Tomorrow is my final recital in the college I am at now and while I am still kind of nervous your video has helped me out a lot. I shall hopefully rock my Handel and use your tips to do so!!! Thanks again!

    Musically Yours,

    Stacy

  • Dileesa, you are a WONDERFUL vocal instructor!

  • THIS is wonderful, I have been teaching and playing music for 30 yrs. and it never gets old to hear wise words that help.

    Thank you so much!!!

I sent this to my daughter!

  • Wow, thank you so much for your wise words!

I really needed to know this info...this will help me out so much...It's funny, because I'm a bellydancer and I could perform easily in front of thousands with so much confidence, and I always teach my students it's about the feeling and connecting with the audience, not about how great the moves are... but I always struggled with singing without being incredibly nervous... I'll never forget your words of wisdom, promise! :-) I'll keep you updated...

  • you have said everything i have been hearing from friends about singing...it ISNT about me..ty...i get it...

  • thank you

I have axioty attaks on stage

  • PREEEEEaaaaaCH!!!!! IM PASSING THE ADVIE TO MY CHOIR NOW

  • i found you just in time for our gospel throwback conert!!!! thanks

  • wonderful wonderful advice! focus on the the words, great tip!

  • your the best on here .......i love it!!!!

  • im doing a singing program at my school im in 8th grade, and i want to knww, how to stop my stage friend i realize ur video is to overcoming it, but i tried it but my voice is too shakky and i cant breath what can i do ?

  • Thank you for your advice - I have some serious trouble performing, especially at auditions, I think you suggestions are going to be very useful to me, im so glad i found your video :)

  • Awesome tips!!

  • Dileesa...Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I compete in singing comps and my nerves always let me down because I am so focused on what people are thinking about how I look ( I 'm a fuller figured girl). Before performing I work myself up into a tizz worrying about hitting the right notes and what I am wearing.. exactly what you said!! You are a true genius. Thank you for sharing this.. I have a Grand Final tomorrow and I think this advice will really help me. :)

  • I have a TV appearance that is being recorded TOMORROW. I happened to stumble across this video, and I'm very glad I did. Thanks for the great advice. I subbed, btw! =)

  • This is wonderful advice! I did a vocal recital recently and a couple of weeks before my performance, I watched this video. It made such a difference. Thank you so much for sharing your gift of teaching.

  • This is GREAT advice. Not just for singing, but even for public speaking. I'm not really sure I'll be singing on stage anytime soon, but I know I still have a speech class to get through, and this video was wonderful help.

  • My mouth gets dry and I breathe too fast. Your empathy convinced me girl. I WILL DO THIS!!!!! Awesome advice.

  • thanks so much... you rock.. !!! subscriber here<<<

  • your advice really worked thanks!!!!!!!!!!!Now i am in circle the state. :)

  • Wow, I want to record everything you say and play it every night while I am going to sleep so it will sink into my subconscious. You just said exactly what I needed to hear. How did you know? I'm always thinking of the high note that I'm afraid of the entire time I'm singing on stage. People tell me I look like I've seen a ghost. I just am so scared of forgetting the words or missing the one high note in every song that gives me trouble.

  • again... great advice.

  • Wow you gave great advice on here and what you said about Whitney is so true. With me I know when I sing I tend to be an open book. People always said they felt me even if I knew I wasnt perfect technically. This is why someoen like Mary J Blige can be famous. She can sing of key at times but still convey at genuine emotion that most can connect to. Sometimes worrying about pitch and notes can take away from that. All though its great to have it all, as Whitney does.

  • thank you~!! i forgot how it feels to be on stage, so now i'm a bit nervous.. 1st time in 10 years!! because of voice change(puberty?) lol my english is bad~ xD

    thanks again~ ^^

  • Thanks for taking ur time to do this!! xoxo

  • thank you SO much! these are really good tips... :]

  • Thank you for sharing.

    I appreciate your posting.

You helped me a lot and I look forward to using these skills when I perform. blessings :)

  • This message is so wonderful and true. You are absolutely right! You have to really FEEL the song to be able to communicate that feeling to the audience nad make the performance great! Thank you for your vids, I'm a new fan ;)

  • so good and so true, i have some videos on here of me singing and there's only a couple i have several 5/5 ratings for, and i know it's 'cos when i did those songs i really "put myself into it" if you know what i mean...i definitely believe it's a case of 75% good voice, 25% empathy, or maybe even the other way round??!!! ;-D

  • Dileesa,

Thank you some much for your videos! you have helped me some much! I hope you'll put up some more videos!

    Thank you

    GB

  • Thanks for the great advice!

  • Thankx for the advice... very helpful! U r a truly talented person..! :-)

  • thank you so much, that helped me immensely thank you. :0

  • if there was such thing as a 10 star rate.. you would get it.. this video is amazing.. lol i shouwed it to my niece who has an audition.. thank you:)

  • This makes total sense. Thank you so much. I have a singing contest this sunday and I am so nervous and worked up that when I practiced yesterday, I felt so tense and I was really upset with myself for not hitting the notes correctly. I am so glad that I have watched this video today because tomorrow when I practice and especially on Sunday when I get up there, I'm going to sing with all my heart.

Thank you and sending loads of love your way.

  • thank uu very much ; )

  • This is what i need 2 hear

  • Wow. That is a good tip.

  • These tips are REAL. To be the messenger and not a singer-singer. And it REALLY works.. "Meditate on the music and the messange, the feeling of the song and the lyrics..that it takes the pressure out of you." Thanx so much for these great videos!!!!

  • exactly, great video. Greatest tip ever sing from the heart, you have to love every single word in the song

  • I have really bad stage fright and i think that it stops me from being able to perform the way i wish i could and my music teacher is allways telling me god has given me a gift to sing but i just can't seem to do it.. so thank you and i'll try it see if it works THANKS! your AMAZING!

  • The Song is the focus not the artist... great point, this makes the the most sense to me. "a conduit" (@5:00) great analogy. It's like, no one buys a cd because they want to watch it spin while it plays music, they buy it because it's what plays the music they love listening to. During a performance, it is also nice to have someone or a group that is easy on the eyes conveying a moving messege as well, but the real reason people are there is the song, not the artist.

  • Thank you so much! I am going to try out your tips for my audition in two days. My nerves, in past, have had such bad impacts on my performances. I'm slowly getting rid of it within time, but for now it has really gotten in the way of making auditions. But I hope this next audition will go good and I will make it. Making the musical would give me lots of confidence I need to be able to perform! Thanks again!

  • THANKS! I'm doing my very first solo performance next week :O but I'll try to think of these things.

  • thanks im gonna try it....i played on stages plenty of times but i still get stage fright were i start shaking and my voice has a shake to it to lol.......i got a talent show at school in 2 days im gona try that out thanks again

  • THANK U I AM A RAPPER AN DAT REALY HELPED

  • Thank you so much this really helps!!

  • when I sing in fron of a big audience my voice gets shaky and my lip twitches...very wierd. I'll try the breathing for next week because I am singing in a school Idols competition, thanks for the tips:D

  • Oh goodness, when I start getting stage fright my mouth feels like it's full of cotton balls... SO dry! Thank you for this video, I will be sure to try these nice easy methods :)

  • Thank you for posting this! Ive been singing in the choir, the praise team and doing various background vocals for years even at church I still get nervous before and while Im sing. Even when Im not the lead. I love when you say focus on the music, breath deep and its not about me, TRULY its not! At times I get overwhlemed, and Im relieved when its over I know I should relax and enjoy what I do. So I will keep praying, and taking the tips on what you say to do! Be blessed I will be in touch.

  • haha, i try that slow breathing thing and I don't know...My voice still shakes a little and i sound nervous. Sometimes i don't feel nervous yet i sound it..

I don't know, i think i just have problems with mics. I can sing out loud for all to hear but put a mic infront of me...that all changes :| (this is only for solos...on the praise team or in groups..i'm fine)

  • i think it helps to act like youre having lots of fun on stage.

  • yes it does, forgetting about the people staring at you and just enjoying the time up there is always good

  • Please PLEASE don't EVER delete your videos! They are helping me sooo much!! God Bless YOU FAAAR beyond all you could EVER imagine!

  • This video really helped me out, I have a big audition coming up soon and Im really glad that I found this, I will write back and let you know how I did. Thanks

  • I was singing on Singstar in school one day (just a free period thing) and my left leg started quivering and i had to physically hold it. I didn't think i was bothered but apparently i was :P

  • lol yes that happens sometimes. poor thing. Keep doing it and you'll become less and less tense

  • Yes it makes a lot of sense. Thank you!
