Sodium chlorate is a much more powerful oxidizer that potassium nitrate. It can be used to make flash powder, but it is unstable. Sodium perchlorate is the preferred oxidizer for that, so be really careful with this stuff. Sodium chlorate based weed killer is also only available in the US with an inhibitor added to it, which prevents it from being used as an oxidizer.

First of all, the stupidest thing I've ever heard is to switch KNO3 with NaClO3, KNO3 is cheaper, more stable and gives better results :) NaClO3 is also highly intoxicating.

Second, if you dry highly unstable chemicals on your carpet, with a HAIRDRYER (!), you do not have a brain... No offense. The chemicals stick to the carpet. If you had lost some sulphur at the same spot, you would have a nice carpet, not to mention a pretty face :P

Hi good video.I use sodium chlorate as it is so easy to convert into Potassium Chlorate which is much less hygroscopic. Its my favorite oxidiser nothing like it for flares, smokebombs It has a bad reputation it doesnt fully deserve, but it is definately less stable than KNo3 I was going to do a video on it but have discovered that 2 months ago It was removed from sale in the UK This is not good news for younger pyros who are not able to purchase stuff online but typical of Nannystate UK

I believe the opposite, in th UK you can get sodium chorate at any garden centre or DIY/Hardware store (B&Q, FOCUS, etc) within 20 mile radius of the forest of dean (where I live) and the only place i can get potassium nitrate is a specialist shop in Devon, 200+ miles away! or Ebay!

wrong. sodium chlorate is NaClO3 while table salt is sodium chloride NaCl.

The idea is that when sodium chlorate is heated (initially by the fuse flame) it decomposes producing oxigen, that further reacts with the sugar (or sulphur or whatever) and produses gas and more heat that helps the next reaction chain.
