The comic explains alot more about lucy and her past, and about the boss of the facility
The story never mentioned Lucy's parents at all. They could be another diclonius as well since Lucy isn't really the first diclonius. The boss of the research facility is also a half diclonius breed, so they must have been around for some time but hiding from the world. The anime didn't mention so many things so all we can do is just guessing.

She was lied to by her two closed friends and she couldn't help but go with her dark side to make them suffer. And yes she did make them suffer.

But its the way everyone treated her just because of her horns that transformed Lucy from an innocent girl into a blood-thirsty demon hellbent on human genocide. If humans hadn't discriminated Lucy, then she may have turned out much differently. Maybe Lucy would even have used her vectors to help humanity.
It seems that everytime Lucy has a human friend, she ends up getting hurt. The girl that takes the bullet intended for Lucy dies later. There was nothing that could be done for her.
