  • 2 people envy this man's ability to slap and cant afford this bass

  • it just want to be SLAPPED

  • Would you recommend this for punk like Alkaline Trio or Green Day? Or the Squier vintage modified precision is better for this type of music?

  • @Leojk87 I think either would be great. If you get a chance try each one in your musical setting and see which one works best....better yet get one of each!! Haha!!

  • Definitely feeling the independent trucks T-shirt. You skate?

  • i bought this bass yesterday, the sounds is great! my only issue was the action was pretty high..

  • Great review

  • You're best bet is to take it in to a tech and have it professionally set up. Overdoing the truss rod is a recipe for disaster in a newbie's hands. It's a real nice bass and definitely worth the set up fee. Otherwise, it's a subtle combination of truss rod adjustment and raising/lowering your bridge saddles. Good luck!

  • @caesarbass Hi, i bought one of these about a yr ago and i have a problem with the action of the bass. I have tried adjusting the string height on the bridge and messing with the truss rod. But when the action is low enough, the notes on the high part of the fretboard cant be played cos the string touches another fret instead. Im still considered a newbie so is there anything i can do to improve that? such as using a diff gauge of strings?

  • Best review of this bass I've seen.

  • @RectumPunch Thanks you very much!!! Appreciate it!!!

  • Hey! really enjoyed the video :P im thinking about buying the '77 model for my first bass guitar :)

  • what strings did you put on this bass for this video?

  • at my old school they had that bass! first time i playd it... damn feelt awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • you can also get this bass in 3 tone sunburst, but this one, that natural maple one costs £50 more, is there any difference in the actual performance of the two? or is just because it is a natural maple body that it is more expensive? thanks.

  • @TheMusicOnMax I do believe the extra charge is probably for the natural finish. As long as both bodies are maple I believe they would pretty much be similar

  • @caesarbass thanks !

  • thanks maaan... cool video about this bass ;)

  • That rocks dude!

  • Would this be alright with drop tunings? Some of my stuff is tuned down to C, some in drop D. What would be an affordable bass that could handle those tunings if this one wouldn't work? Can anyone help?

  • @kitsune80eight my epiphone thunderbird handles drop D quite well and drop C decently. Plus it sounds and looks fkn great. Idk if it helps, but I play Asking Alexandria and SOAD in those tunings and works pretty well...

  • @kitsune80eight I just played the newest 5 string version of this bass....GREAT BASS!!! Awesome low B...I gotta get my hands on one.

  • i must own this divinely given creation!

  • why did you change the strings caesar?

  • @fudgsicles I wasn't a fan of the strings that camp on the bass. I really like DR's and Daddarios....completely a personal preference.

  • What kind of strings are you using?

  • maple body? I have one of these - thought they were basswood? Anyway having a Babicz bridge fitted soon, which I am sure will enhance this otherwise great bass.

    thanks man!

  • @flobblebop Yes, it's maple... Mine has a GORGEOUS looking twe pieces body, but I have to say that's not very resonant... Anyway a very good bass for the money...

  • Lay off the coke next time man

  • @timkick2 Now that's intelligent........thanks for checking out the video.

  • @caesarbass Say! I like that Fender Squier Bass there! Best instrument(and guitar)ever! Next to the Gibson Les Paul! Did you know that when you look on Fender's website, they have bass kits and guitar kits? Just look in Fender products!

  • Great review man, i'm getting one of these, always loved tobaco burst but this is beautiful

  • proberly gonna buy one of these in the next month, good budget bass, about due a new one aswell cant wait :D

  • Ordered the 5 string version earlier today :) Cant wait!

  • what does the passive tone do?..can find any different in my bass

  • Squier basses are REALLY good now, not the cheap pieces of crap they used to be. Definitely a great choice for someone just starting out playing bass, lots of choices.

  • where are you from caesarbass?

  • @TheCambalacho I am in the Southern California area.

  • anything you don't like about this bass? because some people say the action is too high...

  • @mellon12000 It's a great bass and I personally haven't found anything to dislike about this instrument. I definitely recommend a set up when you get it home to get it playing to your specs, they all seem to set up very easily. Hope this helps!! Thanks!!

  • @caesarbass hello, you basically made me buy this bass after i tested it in a shop. This is my very firstbass. What do you mean by setting it up ? my strings seems to be ok, what else please, i play on a gallien krueger backline 115.

  • @Zipping666 Congrats on the purchase!! I would say that if it feels great then play the crap out of it!! "Set Up" means getting it "set up" to your preferences...i.e. string heigh, string gauge, etc....basically your personal preference in the way a bass is "set up." Some people like high string action and some people like low action, basically a bass off the shelf, or delivered to your house seldom come set up the way you like, but then again sometimes they feel just right...out of the box!!!

  • @caesarbass Hey, thanx for the answer ! so basically, everything is about the strings heigh, since the string gauge seems ok for me ! i suppose for slap playing, a low string heigh is better, i'll see wether i can do something on the bass without destroying it. Keep up the good work, you're a nice man.

  • @Zipping666 Beginners TIP! Take your Guitar to a Pro music shop and have the strings changed for a TOP QUALITY set of FLAT WOUND strings. Why?? ... Because when your STARTING out, your finger tips will be SOFT, and the cheapo set of strings it came with, will HURT your finger tips A LOT making practice, SLOW & PAINFUL! Also, ask them to "LOWER THE ACTION" but not TOO LOW!!!! This will also make it easier for your TOP HAND to press on the strings and help prevent your TOP HAND from CRAMPING UP.

  • Hey, can you tell me wich strings you have on at this video? Looking for some good slapping strings and these sound kinda nice ;)

  • Your Melting my mind with those riffs!!

  • what are some good strings to put on this bass? Flatwounds?

  • Is this bass good for punk rock and indie??

  • my squire arrived todayt ! and its defective :(

  • Heya, real quick question and would really appreciate an answer... am looking into buying this bass, but what do you think about the action on this bass? Thanks so much

  • How does this j bass stand up against the mim j bass? I already own a squier mb-4 but i am kind of disappointed with it. I have been researching a new bass to buy, but the price tag on this bass is hard to avoid. What do you think?

  • Comment removed

  • This is probably a very silly question, but are the fret inlays removable? I'd LOVE to get some custom engravings put on them without having to take the whole destrung bass. Thanks!

  • I've been watching your videos for a while now and finally thought of who you remind me of, you look alot like tommy lee! by the way love your shit keep it up

  • @seifs4 Thanks!! Glad you dig the vids!!! Also, I get Jeff Goldblum a lot....but I will take Tommy Lee for sure!! Hahaha!!!! Thanks again!!!!

  • @caesarbass Not a problem. And yeah I could see Jeff Goldblum as well.

  • Fender needs to give you a cut of the profits, bro. You just sold at least 500 basses. Demand it!!!!

  • @bigtoine45 I agree 100%!!!

  • Hey there, i really liked this video. really nice review. I just got this bass a week ago :) I think this is a really pretty bass.

But i got a question. When i slap the E string, it gives a strange sound sometimes, like something falling down.

I dont know if it is because I slap it too strong or if it is the amp (laney rb3) or the tone I use (I dont know much about tones) , or strings (i got the ones wich came with bass) Should I change ? Or some problem with the bridge. What's your opinion?

  • @94Rudro Congrats on the new bass!!! I definitely think putting some new strings on the bass will make a HUGE difference!! I'm not the biggest fan of the stock strings. I like DR or Daddario strings, very consistent. Also, make sure the bass is set up to your playing style. Hope this helps!!

  • What strings would you recommend buying for this? I want a brighter sound good for slapping as well as normal playing but I prefer playing funk/rock/jazz etc. Thanks!

  • What strings would you recommend buying for this?

  • What strings would you recommend buying for this?

  • the inlays and binding are real. I talked to a squier rep a few years back.

  • @enahcs You are correct...I do believe there's an annotation/correction when I say that too. Thanks!!

  • @caesarbass I totally love my VMJ, I'd put it against a USA Fender any day. The way I have it EQ'ed thru my system is incredible, kinda like a King's X / Chili Pepper tone.

  • As per your review and some others on Youtube, I ended up buying the Vintage Modified Jazz Bass but in the Sunburst with Tort guard. Put some Chrome Flats on there and this baby just sounds amazing. Eventually I will also grab a Vintage Modified P-Bass so I can get the best of both worlds. Thanks so much!!

  • @kevbocat Super stoked for you!! Congrats!!!!

  • Thanks a lot for replying! I really respect your abilities as a bass player. The vintage modified squire jazz fretless is a great bass as well. You can really get that Jaco tone!

  • I would find it hard to tell from a standard American Fender Jazz bass if no one told me what bass it was.

  • @dguyiop8 Totally agree!! I think the dead giveaway is the hardware when you get up close, it's definitely not the same caliber/quality that US models have...but it doesn't deter from the playability and gig-ability of the instrument...or the killer SOUND/TONE!!!!!

  • Nice review. It's obvious you really like the bass and I'm sure will influence many to at least look at it. For those of you interested in new strings, I recommend flatwounds for their playability and deeper tone. D'Addario Chromes are my choice for the Jazz bass. It's a great combination.

  • @iabssplyr Thanks!! I love the Daddario flats too!! Definitely worth checking out!! Thanks again!!!

  • ok thx

  • im thinkin if getting either this or the p bass but which would be better for punk rock and ska music

  • @hmol24 That's tough, I think either would rock!! If you have a chance I would try both on gigs or rehearsals. Maybe borrow a bass to two from some buddies. you can't go wrong with either.

  • Me: Meh...

    :55

    Sweet Jesus.

  • Would you reccomend buying this bass, or buying a made in Mexico Fender that is used?

  • Sick shirt.

    Epic sounding bass.

  • hey quick question. what have you done to the bass in terms of modifications? i have the same bass, and when i go to fix the intonation, the low e is always sharp. i know how to do it, so idk what i could be. the bridge? or maybe i need to make a truss rod adjustment? any suggestions? it's really a great bass though, and for the price it's a steal!

  • The binding IS NOT painted on. It is the real deal.

  • You are an excellent player & your review has been very helpful, Thank You!

I have been offered a Jazz Bass identical to yours as a partial trade towards a Fender Nashville Deluxe Series Telecaster. I paid $599 new 2 months ago. The Bass and Tele are both flawless. The guy will throw in $200.00 cash to boot. Do you think this would be a fair deal?

I play Hank Williams Sr. country to Skynyrd to, Chuck Berry. Is the Jazz bass, in your opinion, versatile enough to handle these genres/styles?

  • Im a guitarist looking to also learn to play bass. I like the look of this bass and was wondering about the major differences(playability wise). Not to sound stupid. Im just really interested in learning a little bass too.

  • hey mate, awesome video. i got a question. I never had a bass, and i like to play different kinds of music, from the red hot chili peppers and the jackson 5, to green day and blink 182 ( with a pick, thats what i mean). Would you recommend this bass, is it good for playing with a pick? (obviously is good for slapping).

    cheers from argentina!

  • @nowaytooslow Hey there!! Thanks and glad you dig the video!! This is a very versatile bass and for the price you can't beat it. I'm still very impressed by the quality you get for the price. I think you can make this bass as versatile as you need. I've played it one many different style gigs....top 40, recordings, pop, jazz.

  • @AdaptedMovies Get a p-pass!

  • Thank you brotha I'm looking to buy this bass. It sounds amazing.

  • will you recomment this bass for playing metal?

  • Comment removed

  • jaco book!

  • is it good for heavy metal and hard rock?

  • @XxRoronoaPNSxX I'm left handed, but I play right handed. If you're just starting I reccomend you learn right handed, It's much easier to find the bass you want. Also, a P-bass would be better, but you can't go wrong with this.

  • @AdaptedMovies A P Bass would do you a lot better, man.

  • Thanks heaps for you vid mate. Im an intermediate playand my affinity i have given to my son. I was looking at the highway 1 but was unsure if the extra money would make any difference with my bedroom playing. I found an ad for these and have found your vid a great help. I belive i will get one!!!!!

  • @bigluke001 Awesome!! You will love it!!!!

  • @caesarbass

Hey i got my new bass!!!!!!!!

  • @caesarbass

Hey i got my new bass!!!!!!!! Sounds a bit twangy,, i notice you said you chanced your strings. Can i ask if the thin twang noisy was the problem? What strings did you change to??

    thanks

  • @AdaptedMovies Yes...think this bass really works great in most setting/music styles. I would actually try a P-bass too.

  • Is this particular bass heavy?

  • @DOUPZOR Not too heavy...maybe 8.5 lbs.

  • 300 bucks USD?

  • Yeah, these really are fantastic for the money. I guess I have had mine for a couple of years now, and I still love it. I am mainly a guitar player but needed a bass for my studio, and I have not been disappointed for a minute with this bass. It really is a lot of fun to play. I put Elixir light guage strings on mine and usually run it through a Line 6 1974 Ampeg SVT bass amp model with 30% direct/70% miced. Sounds huge.

  • @caesarbass Thank you for the reply!! Everything I have read is positive, just looking for reassurance I guess. I just got my Precision 2 weeks ago and think this would be an awesome addition.

  • Is this bass that good? I just bought a Fender Precision Sting bass, love the sound and thought this Squier would be a good backup with a different sound?

  • @Painless50 It's an amazing bass and for the price...even better!!! It would be a great back up/main bass or a great bass to travel with, especially if you run the risk of having to check in your bass at an airport....ugh!!!

  • I bought the bass, can't believe I can get such fantastic sound with the price I paid. Great review man.. Thanks

  • i liked the sound of this bass better than the new squier jag, i guess im still a jazz guy .. thank you for the review!

  • i liked the sound of this bass better than the new squier jag .. thank you for the review

  • what strings are you using??

    great bass btw

  • @carlosca89 Thanks Carlos!! I believe they are Daddaro pro Steels.

  • I'm really looking for a great DI tone from my bass and this has caught my eye on numerous occasions... It sounds like this has your recommendation, but would like to know further if you've experimented in dry DI tones :)

  • What amp are you using..that bass sounds great

  • @davidlimtw Thanks!! I was playing through a Little Mark II by Mark Bass head and an Aguilar GS112 cabinet.

  • What amp are you using..that bass sounds great

  • 3:14 lmfao, it just wants to be slapped! lol

  • I know this might seem a bit of a weird question but does this have a decent twangy sort of tone for drop tunings, to around drop c at its lowest, because I love that bass tone in some more metally songs and I love the design and finish of this guitar but I dont know how well it would fit into a heavy genre.. thanks really good video

  • @letmeoutofnyah I know that it sounds great with drop D tuning on the E string but not sure about C....I'm sure if you set it up right it would rock at drop C. Thanks for the props too!!!

  • @caesarbass

is this better than the MIM jazz bass?

  • @ejdbk Not sure if it's better but it's definitely on par for sure. I would try both and determine which one fits your needs best....that being said...I really love this bass!!!

  • @caesarbass

nah,i am done with squeirs,i will buy a MIM p bass, then upgrade to an MIA p bass next year

  • what kind of strings did you put on it and how much were they?

  • @PeaceOfMind2013 I think these are daddario pro steels, maybe around $25

  • which pick up you use for slaping??? mine doesnt sound that fresh :( do you use both pick ups at the same time??/

  • @Dovis05 I use both pickups turned up all the way.

  • That bass is wonderful, how heavy is it?

  • @creepinoutsara Not too heavy, maybe 7-1/2 lbs. they all do differ in weight somewhat.

  • ive had this bass for 8 months now and ive only tuned it once and its still in tune, its a great bass.

  • Im between a rockbass corvette or a fleabass, but this could be a option too. Loved the slap tone you got from it. What do you recomend me?

  • @PatagonicGroove I'm a fan of maple for slap for sure!! I really love this bass. play all of them and choose...but i really dig the vm jazz

  • Sorry, this may be not the place to ask this, but i've been playing bass for almost 6 years now and i've always wanted to own a 70's Fender Jazz Bass. Here in my country, Colombia, those basses are really really expensive, so when I knew about this bass I tried to get it but there were no stores where to find it. All I got from Squire was a Jazz Bass California Series and a Standard Series. Could you explain to me the differences between both basses and which one is better to you? Thanks :)

  • It's my birthday today and i got one :)

  • Do you have any recommendations on a good bass for a beginner? I'm really interested in learning, but there are so many choices. Also hoping not to break the bank. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

  • Squier Classic Vibe 60's Jazz Bass or this one? :P

  • You are good at slapping! Just to let everybody know who's wondering, you don't really have to change the strings or pickups, but they do generally make it better. But I got this exact bass about four months ago, haven't changed a thing, and it still contains that sweet, thick, bass-ish sound as it did when I first got it out of it's box. So very optional to modify it, it's recommended, but I don't think that big of a difference anyways. Your welcome. ;)

  • would yo go with this or a fender standard jazz bass (MIM)? I'm debating on which one I should get. For the price, this one sounds good but I didn't know if their really was a huge difference between this and the standard and that it's $600 because it says fender on it?

  • What strings are you using on that??

  • I want this bass sooooo!!! Bad, but i have no money =(

  • @Zas379 They're not expensive. You should mow your neighbours lawns and wash their windows for some extra cash.

  • i got this yesterday! the brightness is stunning! sometimes its a little too much, but its nothing you cant mix out of ur amp

  • great playing and great review! which is better in your opinion, this bass or the squier 1977 jazz bass?

  • Thanks for the video.

  • @constantine2112 Thank you Constantine!!!

  • just ordered this bad boy. Can't wait to get my hands on it! superb playing by the way!

  • Órale Steve!

    Great review, very thorough!

Now, I need's to get one!

  • hi. how versatile is this bass?

would it sound out of place playing bluesy rock or even some classic metal (eg. black sabbath, as they incorporate some blues into their music)?

  • @caesarbass would you call it versatile and it is based on the 70s fender jazz,

is there a big difference between this and the fender 70s jazz bass' (70's reissues)

  • Hi, I play mostly blues, classic rock, and pop music; If you could only have one, which one would you buy? The vintage modified jazz bass or the vintage modified jaguar bass? Thanks for your help.

  • Hi, have you tried the squier vintage modified jaguar bass? What do you think of it? What do you think of the jazz pick up?

  • @vpatron1 Yes!! I actually own one and did a review video of it too!! It's a great bass!!

  • what strings did you put on the bass ?

  • Great video ,and yes a great bass. I've owned mine for over a year. Just a couple things I'd like to mention in case someone is put off....You mentioned the binding and block inlays are painted.

No. The inlays are decals, which is fairly standard for mid priced guitar companies, black dots as well, and the binding is actually a black phenolic material. I actually had to glue it back down after I nicked it putting in a brass nut. Just wanted to mention that, but it it a great bass.

    Cheers.

  • @geetar4yerears Thanks for clearing that up!! Fender is dong a great job with these Squiers!! Thanks again for checking out the video!!!!

  • what size strings do u use ?

  • @cinnamon1914 Usually 45-65-80-100 or 45-65-85-105.

  • im just starting bass, and i dont know weather to get the Squire Jaguar, or this one - whats the best

  • Comment removed

  • @yanktheirsoxoff I think I have some DR Low Riders on this bass.

  • @caesarbass thanks dude, sick bass btw

  • @yirotube I have the Little Mark II, I love it!!

@rockerr12595 the weight is probably around 8 lbs.

@pfunk1201 two of my favorite books!!

  • nice pastorius and stagnaro books at the back, i have both of them, they are great

  • @ yiyorubio The Little Mark is the original LMII, it's great and still sounds GREAT!!!

@rockerr12595 it's about 7-8 lbs, definitely not too heavy!!

  • hey cool review man. one question though, how heavy would you say this bass is?

  • do you have the little mark III thats funny we seem to have the same rig and i love it

  • Nice review in getting this bass but left handed , just wondering is it good for rock and punk like for sounds like green day ?

  • Wow, that is one killer-looking bass! I've been reading many reviews about Squier, and it seems to have a bad rep for producing cheap quality products (basically for beginners).

Would you say that basses like this and the VM Jaguar are more "high-end" Squier products (taking quality of sound and body into consideration)? Because to an inexperienced bass player such as myself, they really look/sound amazing, but because of the "Squier" logo, others would just assume it's a crappy bass.
