Saw this in small art theater in Colo. Springs, Colorado in 1977. Was fucking hilarious. Funniest film he made. Sophisticated humor that many people mistake as superficial and sophomoric. Three Stooges were also pigeonholed as mere slapstick but it was deeper than what it appeared.

One of my favorite movies of all time, and this was one of the best scenes. But my favorite bank robbery scene has to be Peter Sellers in "Return of the Pink Panther", the "minkey" scene, where he knocks out the bank manager and lets the crooks get away. Later his boss is discussing the incident with him:

"You didn't even know the blind man was a lookout"

"How can a blind man be a lookout?"

"How can an idiot be police officer?"

"Easy, he just has to enlist"

One of my favorite comedies of all time. I saw it many times growing up. I never got sick of it. Jackson Beck ( the narrator for the old Superman cartoons) adds so much to the movie with his serious commenteries that make no sense. Some of my favorites are when virgil is on the chain gang, like: "Virgil complains and is severely punished. For three days he is locked in a sweat box with an insurance salesman." " The men are not even allowed to faint without written permission." LOL!

Love it! Especially the deadpan actors. The old lady, the first "gub" guy--just perfectly serious. The producers of Seinfeld were once asked what they really did right, and they answered that they always chose really serious character actors for the bit parts in the show (Mr. Bookman of the library, that sort of thing). So whatever they were talking about, they felt seriously about it! These guys here are the same way. Masterful.
