  • As an ex-coach driver these pics bring back memories of being down those roads so many times. Thanks.

  • My clan, the Henderson clan, is one of those smaller branches of the McDonald clan and a group of hendersons were at glencoe with the chief when the massacre took place. There's a story of one of us dying bravely defending the Henderson chief. I love glencoe.

Thanks you for watching and commenting!!!!

  • @lilly5794 I totally agree.I love John McDermott. This one though is special because it's a true story. King William sent a proclamation to the Campbells to kill The house of McDonald. Thereby killing 2 birds with one stone.Wm had problems with the McDonalds. He also had loyalty issues with the Campbells. In sending the Campells to kill the Mcdonalds the Campbells would be proving thier loyalty & the McDonalds would be gone. The story & proclamation are on the net.

  • @LadyGreyCarolyn This is the best version of this song.By the way lady Grey, who are you i think i like you?

  • @lneranger4

Just an old Italian lady who likes very much Scotland (even if I've never been there!) and Celtic music :-)

Thanks very much for watching and commenting on my video!

  • AHAHAHA CHOP CHOP PROUD TO BE A CAMPBELL CHOP FUCKIN CHOP HEHE

  • @BarryHMFC only a few campbells took part...mainly scots state troops fair play

  • @3tangle3

Good chop those catholics up. :)

  • SOME PEOPLE WOULD SELL THEIR FUCKING GRANNIES FOR FINANCIAL GAIN. JUST LOOK AT TODAY POLITICIANS IN THE TWO NATIONS OF THE ANGLO-CELT ISLES. THEY SOLD US ALL OUT TO BRUSSELS. BUT LET US NOT BLAME THE POLITICIANS - LET US BLAME OURSELVES INSTEAD FOR ALLOWING THEM TO PROSTITUTE OUR TWO NOBLE NATIONS. THE U.K. AND SOUTHERN IRELAND CAN NOW SINK IN THEIR OWN STEW! AND BLAME THOSE BASTARDS WHO DO NOT GET OUT OF BED ON ELECTION DAY TO CAST THEIR VOTES. THEY ARE THE REAL CULPRITS AND BASTARDS.

  • It is NOT in the past. As long as Scotland remains an English COLONY, the past will never be laid to rest. As for the fighting clans, the English DIVIDED the Scots in order to rule them. The Scots who sold Scotland to the English were rewarded with someone else's land in Ireland. That way, England could - and did - divide and rule in Ireland. The worst part is ... the Scots and theIrish fell for it. HOW COULD ANYONE FALL FOR IT? Financial rewards, I suppose.

  • Who, please, composed thislovely piece? Iknow Kenneth McKellaar recorded a lovely version of it. Was it an Irish guy who wrote it? Just asking. And was it written in the 1960s or 1970s?

  • @squirell1952

On a site called "incallander.co.uk", in the section dedicated to the songs, you can read:

This song is not, as widely believed a traditional song, but is the work of Jim Mclean of Duart Music Publishers, (1963)

I hope this answers to your question, I'm simply quoting what I've found on internet.

Thanks very much for watching my video and for sharing your social/political thoughts!

  • no i grew up in a military family....we fight for whats right, not whats wrong, massacre is wrong.

  • @McAleen I agree but lest we forget right and wrong is a subjective thing

  • I had said i never got the orders. i will never understand how anyone can justify my CO told me to do it...and i did it...even tho it was wrong.

  • Truly awesome place. I hope you get the chance to visit one day. Maybe carry up onto Skye where it becomes maybe even more breathaking. Another place with incredibly sad history and fantastic music (not with the scottish Tourist Board!)

  • @drover44441

I'll keep that in mind when I get the chance to visit Scotland. Thanks again for your reply!

  • unfortunately, the massacre tarnished those with the Campbell name with the same brush, hence the name Black Campbell. The fault lay with the Government forces.

  • good video, LadyGreyCarolyn. Glencoe is a beautiful place but it can be nice to leave it. once walked the West Highland Way and climbing the Devils Staircase out of the glen was something else. I'm a Scot and the place sends shivers up the spine. I prefer to think of this as a balland with a real message. Wasn't easy for the Government to suppress people who believe in true freedom. Believe it or not I now live in England (do remember this was ethnic cleansing). All in the past now.

  • @drover44441

I suppose that, not being Scottish, a person can be saddened by what happened there, but not really understand it because it's not your people, your ancestors, so it's easier to see this place only as a wonderful landscape, maybe forgetting all the history beyond...

But thanks for sharing your thoughts about this, and thanks for watching my video :)

  • I have visited Glencoe mountains..amazing beauty....my guide played this song during our drive...loved this song ...though I was sad after learning about the massacre....

  • @samhaa

I would like to visit Scotland one day, and I'll make Glencoe as a place to see... but indeed it's a very sad story the one linked to this place...

  • Such as sad song. Makes me want to find out more about my Scottish heritage.
