@warhawk9566 Yes they made the original series and then also an OVA which followed roughly the same story, added a few characters and used the better animation for dogfights.

The US Navy opened fire on the JMSDF warships because they were shielding the renegade sub "Seabat" from fire. As to *why* they chose those courses of action, your guess is as good as mine.
