You can not justify murder by pointing to the sky, a book, or even holy dirt. Its not murder when a man is protecting his home, but its murder when innocent people are blown up.
I don't mind criticism of my song. I see it's still in the top 10 on Neil Young's "Living With War" site. But it's hard to take loommis seriously, with all his religious rantings when he is unable to spell even half the words in his response.
lmao,,, For you all that belive in any religon... ok so u belive in a god, but "god" is just a reson for any person to not accept death.. if you really belive in a god u are just fooling yourself that there is life after death,, get real people,, all religon has done was make war and terroist mainly in the middle east. and yes desertfox 3:15 of my life wasted aswell not including the min it took me to wright this..
Atheism is a fallacy. You expect people not to believe in god or to have faith in spirituality, but that certainty (with no physical evidence) amounts to a faith of a different kind, and just as "unfounded." Agnosticism is more appropriate for the non-religious, as it doesn't amount to faith in anything but rather acceptance of knowing one will never know.
Not at all. Atheism simply means that a person does not believe that there is an Eternal Creature or Creator. I know many people who reject the notion that such a "person" exists. That does not mean, though, that they don't have "faith." In your post, you mix the two concepts. They might have faith in Truth, for instance, but that's not a "Being."
Well, the abstract concepts of "Truth" or "Justice" without belief in a Supreme Being is intellectually masturbatory. I'm not even very religious, but only playing devil's advocate. What I said was that Atheists, who for all intents and purposes reject blind faith, violate their own credo by holding positions that require faith of an equal (but opposite) force. Atheism is FAITH that there is no god, a fallacy, Q.E.D.
Well, now you're simply arguing whether or not it's intellectually consistent to be atheist. That's fine, but it doesn't prove your initial assertion that it doesn't exist and that all atheists are actually agnostic. To the contrary, atheists do exist, as do agnostics. An atheist rejects the notion that there is a "divine being." An agnostic says no one can know for sure. Whether or not you think atheism is a "faith" is really not relevant to them.
Atheism DOES exist and I never said that it didn't. However, I still assert that atheism violates its own core tenets, which of course doesn't matter much to atheists. Its just as impossible to rationally know that god does not exist as it is to know that god does exist. The problem arises when atheists claim to have scientific and biological support for their faith...when it is just that...faith.
Beatnik, atheists admit that they cannot "prove" the "non-existence" of "God" any more than a theist can prove the existence of "God." It's no more a leap of faith to assume that matter simply came into existence than it is to assume that a divine being simply came into existence. Also, science demonstrates that things go from simple to complex. A divine being begins by being complex, so, they say, it goes against the pattern of the universe.
I do believe in an initial level that atheism and belief in a God does take amounts of faith. I would like to say that the premise that God is initially complex or simple is simply a matter of philosophical and speculative theology. But, there have been plenty of arguments and theological discussions that say God is the ultimate simplicity and has been written about for awhile. the idea of God going against the pattern of universe is only relevant to certain brands of theological thought.
Thank you, for letting our fire burn steve, this is so clear and honest. iluminati ad infinitum. "Light forever" Religous war, no, war is pointless. The modern world doesnt need more hypocrites. The Living
God is with you Steve. may the white-light shine in you.
Abby, as a future Rabbi how can you explain Yahweh's choice to drive the canaanites from their land by conquest? Would a good "God" really allow people to be murdered like this? As you can imagine people have some serious qualms about that.
>I realize that this isn't meant as an anti-religious anthem, but I'll take it as that until the real thing comes along
The thing is that religion will always be here. I truly believe that religion has the power to create peace, but that its leaders are too busy "defending" their faiths to realize that doesn't need defending. It only needs to be exercised.
How dirty!

I don't see this as anti-religious, but anti-hypocricy. Steve understands what's important and what's not, to my way of thinking. -- Dan

I honestly don't know what "Steve understands." Usually Steve is the last one to "get" anything. But you obviously have a great and clear mind!
