I like how they made Mama Odie into a Voodoo Priestess to show that religion can be good or bad it depends on how you use it. Cause when most people think Voodoo it's curses and demons but it depends on who uses it. In the end its just a religion like everybody's elses.
@Ninjalover2221 yeah, i mean, i believe in voodoo. and i'm not evil. although i did once make a voodoo doll with a guy from my classes hair, pushed the doll in the stomach and the boy had a bad stomach ache the nest day, which is kinda freaky but still.
I thought this film was a nice change from Disney's modern style, though I would have liked this guy to get more attention. I don't "dig" him for anything more than his really epic death. I'd love to know more about how he gained his powers, why his shadow didn't abandon him, why exactly he chose to have magic from the guys on the other side.
I remember cheering on Simba when he fought Scar. I remember booing at Ursela, when she took Ariels voice. I remember fighting the Huns side by side with Mulan. I remember the wind through my hair, running by Pocahontas. I remember being locked in the Beast's castle. I remember laughing and having fun with Mickey and his friends. I don't remember watching Teen Drama on stupid Disney Channel. Copy and paste this to all you favorite Disney Videos, and lets start a revolution
@stitch99 I always got the feeling that they made Mama Odie a Voodoo Priestess so that she could conjure and be Facilier's equal (even though disappointingly the pair never meet). Disney treat Voodoo as a source of magic rather than a religion in this film. Just like The Hunchback of Notre Dame treated Catholicism with the gargoyles and whatnot. But behind Voodoo lie evil powers. Demons. That's what the Loa, those mask things are. Facilier comes off the worse for meddling with dark powers.
My nephew absolutely adores this song, he's 1 and every time it starts with the song song {after shaking the 'poor sinners hand'} he lifts his arms up at the tv and lets out a shriek (not a scared shriek, a happy one} he adores this song, he does the same thing on the reprise it's so cute :)
I can see this being made into a musical. You could do so much with puppets and with magic tricks. It would also make a fantastic ride at Disneyland, similar to Phantom Manor, but like Dr. Facilier's Voodoo Experience or something.
@TheBlahBlahNews That would be so COOL!!! Like when we are about to enter the journey we can have little voodoo dolls playing drum chanting "ARE YOU READY? ARE OU REAAA...DY?!?!"
@Radioactive1080z Yeah, and they could use brilliant animatronics to recreate some of the scene...I mean, if they used the same kind of effects as they did for the Little Mermaid Ride, the 'changing' could be VERY interesting! SOMEBODY CALL THE IMAGINEERS!
When I saw that guy and his half mask I thought, "Ah! It's an Arrancar from Bleach!! His friends from the other side are the espadas and Aizen!! It all makes sense!!!" That is honestly what I thought! Anyway though, this movie was way better than I thought it would be when I saw it.
Guys, what is the core song here in Princess in the frog? I mean, the most serious song that embodies the whole point of the story or of the character? In Lion King it was The Circle of Life, in Mulan it was Reflection, Hercules has Going the Distance and Alladin's was A whole New World. How bout here? And what scene is it?
@ChocoSyrupOnMyAbs I think that "Down in New Orleans" is better, though, because it highlights how each of the characters has a dream, and the whole movie is about what they do to achieve them.
@2wingo Good point. it showed all their dreams, yeah. Tiana's hardwork to get the restaurant, Naveen's desire to just partey, Facilier's evil ways and evil plans, even Charlotte's goal to marry a Prince who finally arrived. hehe.
I hope I'm fortunate enough to have Keith David in all the games and shows I make some day. Doesn't matter what theme the game or show has, this guy is so talented he can do anything! :)
@syr3nth3r3dqu33n Not French. I mean, he does at one point in the movie speak French, and his accent is derived from a romance language, but his accent implies that he probably speaks a language similar to Portuguese. and the interjections he uses are gibberish, so if it's a made-up country, chances are, it's probably a made up language. I second with ABookwormAndProud. read his/her comment.
It's not real, but I like to think that the capital of Maldonia is Agrabah, and he's decended from Aladdin and Jasmine. Given the time period, it could've been a small country that broke off from the Ottoman Empire and allied with Britain and France.
....Or maybe I'm digging too deeply into this. *Nerd*
@ABookwormAndProud No. Agrabah is very distinctly Persian (~Modern day Iran). Not Turkish. Even if it was in the nebulous area of the Levant or South of the Caucasus where Persian and Turkish cultures mixed it would be far too far east to have a language of Romantic origin. You may have dug deep into Disney, but your geography and history needs a bit of work. :p
i love how in the actual movie, when he mentions lawrence getting a wife he smiles, and then mentions she'd be mean too. poor lawrence can't catch a break huh? XD
