  • memoryman is a starting pedal for post-rocker i think ) planning to get boss digital reverb and I already have a dunlop rotorvibe which made sound exactly like band caspian has =) still haven't decided about overdrive i don't use it a lot.. but why everybody likes big muff so much? for me it's too dirty sound i'd go with some FUZZ

  • @Holms

Well, I wouldn't say a DMM is the starting pedal for a 'post-rocker' seeing as they're pretty expensive, haha. Besides that, there's no set of rules when it comes to gear. You can make all kinds of music with all kinds of gear. For example: Caspian doesn't use leslie / rotary pedals, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't. Leslie's are awesome! Regarding the Big Muff: it's a classic and people like to chase classic sounds. It IS a fuzz, though. ;) (useless in a mix, it has no mids)

  • Dont get electrocuted with those bare feet :-)

  • Good Information. CooL Sounds // .Excellent Effects

I Really Like My AKAI E-1 HEADRUSH Pedal.

Tap Tempo, Digital Delay.I Like thr SiM Tape Delay Switch.

Also Has a Little Pharse Loopper Built In and Yeah 4 Amp Outputs !!!

    // : )

  • who would dislike this...its just a guy showing various sounds, what a bunch of douche bags anyone who voted bad for this, do not appreciate music

  • wat pedal are u using first ur first song?

  • @Csharpguitarist

mxr dyna comp, Fulltone Choralflange, DL-4 [Tube Echo], DMM, Nova Delay [Reverse Tape], BOSS RV-5 [Modulate]

  • I WOULD PAY A LOT OF GOLD PIECES FOR THAT KIND OF PEDAL BOARD!!

  • @espsir i would too but i took an arrow to the foot so i cant press pedals anymore

  • Great that you'd want share this!

  • first pedal sounds like u2 stuck on a desert island

  • impressive video!! ...!why jazzmaster are so used in shoegaze?

  • @loyolam89 Single coils, long vibrato arm for easy chord dips. Essential for the "average" shoegaze sound.

  • you have a great set up. I just dont think youve taken the time to learn how to mesh and play with each one.

  • @squalidshake

Have you seen when this was uploaded? 2 years ago.

  • hey great vid just what i been looking for, can you give me a list of pedal's and other devices i would need to get a great ambient sound and also a list to get a great shoegaze sound thanks much appreiciated

  • @HSMHaterzhehe

Discovery is the fun part of it all. There's no such thing as a set of pedals/gear to get a certain sound. Be creative and see what works for you. Less copying, more exploring.

  • @DemoColorScheme yeah i know what you mean cause i avnt copied or learnt 1 song of any other band. everythin i play is my own but im on a tight budget ye see :( i just wanted a thought of which wher the 3 best pedals to start with id find my own sound oviously but im just new to the pedal thing dont want to waste my money.

  • @HSMHaterzhehe

First thing: there's nothing wrong with learning songs. It will shape your skills, really.

And if your money is tight, my recommendations wouldn't help you. If I could pick just 3 pedals, they would be:

    - Deluxe Memory Man

    - Eventide SPACE

    - Strymon TimeLine

  • @DemoColorScheme well i meant i didnt wanna waste my money as i dont have alot. but thanks alot for your recommendations and the tip on learning other songs

  • 멋진 음악이다. :)

  • That's impressive.

  • Hi! Does anyone know what effect is used since 7:48 please?

  • hey i was wondering if i should buy a line 6 multi effect pedal or a boss do you recommend any pedals to me i mean i play everything

  • @myownse1f

    If you're new to the world of effects, I would highly recommend the Line 6 M-series (M5 / M9 / M13).

  • Hi, man. I really wanna know what effects are you using during first sound. PS. Great playing ;) love your sound

  • @TheHawkguitar

You can find the answer among the comments below. That question gets asked a lot.

And, thanks for the compliments, but this is a really old video. I sucked back then.

  • @kurtmaisu @Sephirangel As far as i could find out, for the first part he was using the T.C. Electronics ND-1 Nova Delay, Line 6 DL-4, and the BOSS RE-20.

  • @s09072

More, actually: mxr dyna comp, Fulltone Choralflange, DL-4 [Tube Echo], DMM, Nova Delay [Reverse Tape], BOSS RV-5 [Modulate]

... I don't get why people keep getting back to this video, haha. It must be the tags and the views. Such an old rig ... Way too much pedals, haha.

  • Comment removed

  • You have such a Jesu feel to your tone, but it's just so new. Your old rig is still awesome, your new rig is heavenly.

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris

The new rig is old as well. ;) I haven't posted the update, but I've sold a lot and have switched over to an Axe-FX ULTRA combined with a few pedals and tape delays.

  • Hi dude, amazing set of effects! What boxes are in use during the first minute with the clean sound?

  • Your sound is awesome, can we have a list of your pedals, most for the clean non distor parts.

  • @alexintek

It's all listed in the description and in the comments.

  • Does the Artec Power Brick also power your Line6 DL-4, or do you need a separate PSU for that? Cheers

  • @2hot4hugs

I don't use it anymore (this rig is 2 years old ...), but no, it didn't and it doesn't.

  • Dude. Decide on a genre.

  • @Ilovemyfender2

How ignorant. Like anyone ever has to decide on a genre.

  • @DemoColorScheme hmm lets see....im goin to play what ever i feel...so im gonna put it in a box!! buwahahahaha

  • You can afford all this stuff but not a DI/audio interface ;)

  • @synth77

Look at the date this video was posted ... I now record stuff using a PreSonus FirePod. (I did own one back then as well, but wasn't into recording then)

  • pedal boards dont get "outdated" pal.

  • @universalmanchild

Of course they do, when a new revision is created.

  • @DemoColorScheme dude it's all the same technology. so what if there r a few bells and whistles added

  • @universalmanchild

Dude, you're thick, aren't you? When you create a new pedalboard or rack, you make a new 'version' yourself. I'm not talking about the actual board itself or the actual pedals, but the combination. Let's say that I had this board two years ago (which you can see by the upload date), this day I'm running everything via MIDI and in racks, which, in itself, is a new version of my rig. So, seeing this video and commenting on it is kinda redundant, since it's 'outdated' - get it?

  • Actually, your wrong, pedalboards don't get outdated.

I make a point of allways using a CE2 chorus and a CE2B bass chorus from the 80's as a must, because the analog japanese circuitry just has a much warmer and subtler sound to it than all these new "flangeru" choruses.

The only newish chorus I would go for would be an electroharmonix.

  • @dano555666

I'm not talking about outdated in a literal sense ... it just means that I no longer have this setup and therefore this video has become outdated. Saying; this is not my current rig anymore. (hasn't been for over 2 years now)

  • wau i like ur pedal hahaha

  • get an axefx !!!!

  • @Gonjir

Tell that to G66 ... ;) I've been on the list for more than a half year now and they're still having issues with the shipments.

  • @DemoColorScheme man that sucks :|

  • @Gonjir

Yeah, I know. Until that time I'm fine with the rig I have now. Check out my newer videos to see what I'm using. This particular video is really old ...

  • hi man

just wondering what efx ur using during the 1st part of the video.totally spacey

  • What was the combo at 2:21?

  • nice demostration man, and that deluxe memory man it sounds great xD

    thx for for the video.

    cheers

  • Do you perfer the Deluxe Memory Man to the Nova Delay Pedal?

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris

Yes. I've used the Nova Delay for like 3 months and I still use multiple DMMs.

  • that was really rad man, I can't use anything more than a tuner & noise supressor.

  • any difference in the nova repeater models?

  • @mysticsack

See the t.c. electronic website ...

  • is the artec power brick good???

  • @funnyG1

It's okay, but not better than a Burkey Flatliner SIX or a Voodoo Labs PedalPower 2+

  • @DemoColorScheme ah thanks, if I was rich enough hahaha, but is the artec one good enough to reduce noise from all the pedals? thanks for replying!!!

  • @funnyG1

No, the outputs aren't isolated. The ones I mentioned are, hence why they're more expensive.

  • quick question what is your opinion on the ehx cathedral ?

  • @mysticsack

I've never played it due to the fact that all the clips I've heard didn't interest me. The 'hold/freeze' function is something I can do with software, so I don't need it for that as well.

  • @mysticsack One of the best my friend! Have one myself.

But if you wanted to go a little cheaper, you could just get the Boss reverb. That one also sounds amazing.

  • what would be a good starting pedal ?! i really like the memory man and the nova repeater and the re 20!

  • @mysticsack

A starting pedal? I presume you mean a starting delay pedal? If you're new to effects, it might be handy to start with a Line 6 M9.

  • @DemoColorScheme i definitely want a memory man from what i heard, what version is yours because i look them up online and it looks as if they updated it and it looks a little different which ones your choice?

  • @mysticsack

I own two DMM's at the moment (I had four in total) - a 90ies reissue and an 80ies original. They're both just fine. The XO version is good as well, but it uses slightly inferior BBD chips. I would just hunt down an original big box version.

  • @DemoColorScheme if i had a choice to get the nova or the space echo what would you choose?

  • @mysticsack

Nova Delay. More options and a better sound overall. I presume you mean the RE-20 pedal (which isn't much like the real RE-201 Space Echo [which I owned as well]). However, if you're going for the sound online, without tap tempo, presets, etc. the DMM still wins.

  • @DemoColorScheme Yeh I got a dd5 so iIdont know if i need the dmm anymore I want something with delay and reverb so thats why I thought the re30 space echo would be a good choice I'm nots sure but

  • @mysticsack

The RE-20 has a horrible reverb ... so, that certainly won't do. The DMM is also nothing like the DD-5. The DD-5 is a standard digital delay, the DMM is a lush analog delay with modulation. I suggest trying them all out to learn more about the units and about delay itself.

  • @DemoColorScheme awesome well thanks i think i know what i want for christmas too and my birthdays coming up so i think il spoil myself...

  • nice board an sounds man

  • whats the name of the pedal towards the left with the red LED display?

  • @JohnDavidGoldsberry

    t.c. electronic Nova Delay

  • This was very nice.

  • I need some info about the Artec Power Brick.

    Does it make any noise???

I heard that it creates a large humming-noise.

    THX

  • @Marshall2603

It's not the most silent power supply, true. But it's not that bad, really - especially considering the price.

  • @Marshall2603 get the 1spot its not a power brick or anything but its like 20 bucks and it supplies 7 or 9 pedals with power and its really silent. i know this cause i have 1.

  • Great sounds, what was the name of the delay pedal. Really like the sound, looking to get a delay pedal myself

  • @DivineYouthGlasgow

    There were 4 delay pedals on this board;

    - Line 6 DL-4

    - Deluxe Memory Man (analog delay with modulation)

    - t.c. electronic Nova Delay

    - BOSS RE-20

(and the BOSS RV-3, which is delay + reverb, but I only use that for cold, digital reverbs)

I think, if you want to learn what delay does, and what models there are, get the Line 6 DL-4. It's a nice beginners delay.

  • Hey, where'd you get the actual *board* in this vid? I like the plain, flat boards (as opposed to Pedaltrain-style), but I don't think I've seen any online at that length. J/w, thanks:)

  • @yobhsiFehT

It was a custom built board I found only and just bought.

  • Looks like you get some pretty cool sounds out of that T.C. Helicon reverb.

Gotta love toys :) Try setting up your expression pedal to modulate the delay time on one of your delay pedals. That's a really cool effect.

    -No Ideas But In Things

  • @NoIdeasButInThings

This is a really old rig .. like mentioned in the text of the video. There's no t.c. Helicon, by the way. The Helicon is a vocal processor. The only t.c. I had here was the Nova Delay, which is, obviously, a delay.

  • @DemoColorScheme

oh! okay. I see that now. You kicked something reverby on in that corner of the board and I thought it was that pedal. Do you use the vocal processor for guitar stuff?

  • @NoIdeasButInThings

I don't have the Helicon. ;) I was just pointing out that you had mistaken something for the Helicon.

  • @DemoColorScheme

gotchaa. What is the pedal right above the Memory Man then?

  • @NoIdeasButInThings

Like I said, it's the Nova Delay. ;)

  • nice stuff man

  • Wow impressive set there. What is the purpose of the second volume pedal may i ask?

  • @shinerboy

It functioned as a post-gain / pre delay/verb volume pedal.

  • I think it was the Marshall Jackhammer in combination with something, probably the Flashback Fuzz.

  • I know this is your old setup, but I was wondering what did you have on when you switched over to that thick post metal sludge sound?

  • @EmilSallingDK

It's an okay little unit, but it is a little more noisy than the high end power supplies like Burkey, for instance. I switched over and I really like those for clean power without any interference of the transformer.

  • GREEEEEEEEEAAAT. I WANT IT

  • Ok ok ... now THIS is a guitar rig. SO BEAUTIFUL. Very shoegazy, I love it!!!!! It's incredible man!!

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris

Nothing special, really. This was my first board which, compared to what I have now, was a complete joke. I have a rack setup now with a few pedals, all controlled by MIDI.

  • @DemoColorScheme Can you make a video for your new one please? Like for the whole setup, to update after this video?

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris

Absolutely! It's almost done, just have to get the MIDI True Bypass Looper (which I might get next week).

  • @DemoColorScheme COOL!!!! Thanks man!!!

  • @DemoColorScheme So have you done that video yet for your new setup lol

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris

You can check my channel for the most recent one. It's called: Arafúra - Latest Rig Update [Ambient / Dream-Pop / Shoegaze / Post-Rock : Rack / Pedalboard]

  • Mega 7:46

  • Hey awesome board! wht are you using at 7:40?

  • @derekchan12

(old board, really old board, but thanks anyways)

As I'm saying there, I'm using the mxr dyna comp, Fulltone Choralflange, Line 6 DL-4 Auto Volume Delay, EHX Deluxe Memory Man, BOSS RV-5 [Modulate].

  • what two effects are you using at 2:01??

  • Simply amazing - the sound of infinity. Thank you for posting and cheers.

  • @drkam6

Thanks, though have a look at the other video as well! This was the first video I ever uploaded and extremely outdated!

  • What is it that gives the 'ambient' sound in the first riff, Is it just a reverb ?

  • @rossmillerlol

It was a mixture of the following pedals:

mxr dyna comp, Fulltone Choralflange, DL-4 [Tube Echo], DMM, Nova Delay [Reverse Tape], BOSS RV-5 [Modulate]

  • does all off your pedals connect with the artec power supply?? AC and DC???please!!!

    Nice Rig!!

  • @aggelosmor

Everything was hooked up to the Artec's, besides the DL-4, the Nova Drive and the DMM, which all had their own adapter. And mwah, not so much of a great rig this was. I like the stuff I have now way more.

  • what pedals are active at 0.26 that sounds incredible! please tell

  • @matt1991ainscough

It was a mixture of the following pedals:

mxr dyna comp, Fulltone Choralflange, DL-4 [Tube Echo], DMM, Nova Delay [Reverse Tape], BOSS RV-5 [Modulate]

  • @DemoColorScheme

    thanks man

  • what pedals are active in the first bit where you play, sounds very Eno like. like a lot!

  • Hey

What pedals do you activate in the first clean playing? (0:26)

    Love that sound

  • Very nice set up and playing. Quick question. That board/case of yours, where did you get it from and how much was it?

  • @niceone63

No clue. I can't even remember from who I got it. All I know was that it was a custom case. (this is a really old video .. check the other ones for a more recent setup - this one is a joke)

  • @niceone63

It was a mixture of the following pedals:

mxr dyna comp, Fulltone Choralflange, DL-4 [Tube Echo], DMM, Nova Delay [Reverse Tape], BOSS RV-5 [Modulate]

  • What pedals do you use in that first postrockish sound?

And which are the most important? Any advices?

  • @RapeTheMessanger

It was a mixture of the following pedals:

mxr dyna comp, Fulltone Choralflange, DL-4 [Tube Echo], DMM, Nova Delay [Reverse Tape], BOSS RV-5 [Modulate]

  • How did you get thoes stickers on you DL4? I would like some, but i don't know where i can find them. Nice video :)

  • @DanniQQQ

    They came with the DL-4.

And thanks, though this video is realllllly old. Check the newer ones for the new board.

  • What Fender Amp do you use?

    Twin Reverb?

  • @JFKimmedy

Yes, in this demo I used a Fender '69 Silverface (modded to Blackface) Twin Reverb.

  • yes, I thought so. :-) You really know how to work those pedals. Amazing sounds. Hey, can you remember how you got that nice dark reverse delay sound on your Nova Delay? I'm trying to get a similar dark sound. Any help much appreciated.

  • @RhianS

Oh man, this rig is so old and I haven't had the Nova Drive for over a year or more. I knew that it was a dark reverse tape like sound with a fair amount of modulation - feedback high enough so it keeps pulsating. Maybe that helps?

  • @DemoColorScheme Cheers! I'll keep trying. :-)

  • Beautiful stuff! Just wondering where in your chain you have your compressor? At the start or end?

  • @RhianS

My rule of thumb always is: Compressor at the start of the chain. ;)

  • Hey men, i really like your pedalboard! and your sound ;)

    Greetings from Argentina!

  • rich bastard!

  • @Krigarar

I'm not rich in any way whatsoever.

  • @Krigarar It's called sacrifice for the love of sound. I remember only affording $1 of food a day for two months so I could buy my Jazzmaster.

  • @ExclaimedMusic it's called intense jealousy from my part

  • Sorry I have a poor knowledge of pedals but was wondering is there a particular pedal that gives that kinda drone effect in the first example you played?

  • @redzep91

There's no ONE pedal that's gonna give you that.

It was a mixture of the following pedals:

mxr dyna comp, Fulltone Choralflange, DL-4 [Tube Echo], DMM, Nova Delay [Reverse Tape], BOSS RV-5 [Modulate]

  • @Drizzt567

    And proud of it.

  • shoegaze without a whammy bar? unlikely

  • @bf70lt

lol, there are plenty of bands that don't always use the tremolo bar on the guitar. Not every shoegaze band is like MBV, not by a long mile.

  • @DemoColorScheme

shoegaze is not only based around etheral effects but also waiting for the pitch to be in tune, the effect of phasing the pitch and waiting for the moment when all is in tune is very important in purist shoegaze, weather it be mbv or slowdive also in contemporary shoegaze like ulrich schnaus or the horrors, as you rightly say not the only factor but certainly not a feature to be over looked, massive pedal board bet there are a few hundereds of pounds worth of equiptment there!

  • @bf70lt

Bollocks. Shoegaze is not about the phasing of the pitch of a certain note or chord, that's absolute nonsense. In that case, Cocteau Twins wouldn't be Shoegaze, nor would slowdive be (rarely do you truly notice the bending of a note besides the use of modulation, which does it in a different manner) - of course, I'm not going to deny that it's used a lot, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that, when not using a trem bar; it's not shoegaze.

  • @DemoColorScheme

as i said, it is not the governing factor of shoegaze but to say that cocteau twins dont use this is slightly wrong, listen to her vocal lines and harmony lines there is often slight pitch phase, however as we have both said it is not an essential, however to consider shoegaze without it is wrong, because it is important, maybe not in all but alot of important shoegaze.

  • @bf70lt

But now you're saying something completely different. You were talking about a 'whammy bar', whereas the pitch shifting on vocals is nothing but a mere effect to create extra dimension on the vocal lines, as well as burying and melting it in the mix with a reverb and mixing everything into that final reverb. I think that's the big difference between you and me. You're saying that if I'm not using the trem bar on my Jazzmaster, I'm not influenced by Shoegaze.

  • No one said this was a Shoegaze pedalboard demonstration. I'm just INFLUENCED by Shoegaze (or rather, Dream Pop). Search YouTube for (Shoegaze Guitar) and watch the first vid. He obviously isn't using a trem bar (he's using a Tele), but using additional effects to create the pitchshifting. I'm doing the same thing with some stuff that I do, but I, PERSONALLY, prefer using a chorus / flanger for pitch-modulation whereas detuning, be it via a trem bar of additional pitch-shifter, is more drastic.

  • @bf70lt

"however to consider shoegaze without it is wrong, because it is important, maybe not in all but alot of important shoegaze"

And I was always in assumption that the Shoegaze crowd was really open-minded ..

  • @DemoColorScheme

the title says demonstration you should know you posted it. the fact that the shoegaze crowd was open minded does not deny the fact that there are still things that are true to a genre, thats what genres are for. i think i made it clear in one post that i was not talking about a whammy bar, i was speaking of instrumental tremolo, nothing wrong artificial tremolo or the fact that it can be made without a whammy bar just saying that it is one of many defining parts of that genre

  • @bf70lt

Dude, you said 'whammy BAR' - don't back out on your own words. I never said that pitchshifting wasn't a part of shoegaze. I just wasn't in agreement with you when you said, in your initial post:

"shoegaze without a whammy bar? unlikely"

It's quite condescending, really. Okay, trem bars, pitchshifting, detuning are all used in shoegaze, I completely agree. But saying that, when one's not using a trem bar something's not shoegaze. That would mean EVERY part of EVERY song sould have it.

  • @DemoColorScheme

i know i said whammy bar, thats because in my opinion thats the best way of doing it, you dont have to bust my balls with it, i did not at any point say that every song had to have one, jeeeez.

  • @bf70lt

No, of course you didn't - but you were saying that something wasn't shoegaze if one wasn't using the trem bar, which I wasn't in that particular piece in the video (never said I never used it for that stuff). Why else would you have posted that remark? Anyways, let's just drop it. This is just consuming your time and my time. Good luck with your future endeavors.

  • @bf70lt

Also, this was my first real rig. I've changed rigs multiple times. The only pedals I have left of this rig are the RV-3, the RV-5, RC-20XL, the DL-4 (though completely modded) and of course the DMM.

  • Never play in bare feet, lest you become the ground.

  • of course, you need a ninja rhythm section for any of these sounds to work in a band ;)

  • you can make this sound with one pedal - digitech ex7

  • @StrangelyFolded

    Sure ...............

  • @Drizzt567

Yup! It's not an uncommon thing to see though! Delay has definitely been THE effect of the past last decennium!

  • how do you power all those pedals?

  • @justinsanesaid12

With a powerbrick like the Artec Powerbrick or the Burkey Flatliner SIX (which I'm using in my new rig) - (this is an old video)

  • 2:15 sounds exactly what We Came As Romans would use

  • @GerardCB777

    Never heard of 'em, sorry.

  • This is awesome. :D

What genre fits the first riff the most? I'm looking for music like that. Could you, please, help? :)

  • @TheVoidOfWhatever

Thanks. Genres? Mostly post-rock/shoegaze/dream-pop/ambient. It's kind of a cross-over. Check out the following acts: hammock, slowdive, Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie, Stafrænn Hákon, etc.

  • @DemoColorScheme Thanks a ton! :)

I'll check them out and get back at you. :D

  • hell.. what a rig.

  • Nice equipment and playing.

    It's footgaze instead shoe... lol.

    I rather your carpet overall!

    Greetings!

  • I love you. And your pedalboard. And your skill. And the fact that you play post rock.

    <3

  • Ha, alrighty then!

  • :o i want that guitar.

  • what pedals do u use to get the sound from 0:25-1:10?

  • It's in the description. But you're probably referring to the first sound.

It was a mixture of the following pedals:

mxr dyna comp, Fulltone Choralflange, DL-4 [Tube Echo], DMM, Nova Delay [Reverse Tape], BOSS RV-5 [Modulate].

  • @DemoColorScheme i love your setup. i cud use another delay anyday
