man i was just falling asleep - clicking this video is like two cups of strong coffee - amazing feel and musicality - glen you really deserve all that gear! a true master.
This is called a Jet, or perhaps more correctly the '62 Silver Jet. I got it just a couple years ago brand new. It's a reissue of a '62. I just checked and it does not appear on their website anymore, though one in all black does. This is a semi hollowbody, with a zero fret. Mine is stock except I rewired it. It's wired more like a Gibson now, and has treble bleed caps. This keeps it from going muddy when you turn down like in the video where I'm playing it only on about 3 or so.
@GlenKuykendall Nive, I just found a couple for sale for around $3000. Basically I saw KT Tunstall playing one in a video of hers (Saving My Face) and I think hers is the original with the Burns Vibrato but this is close enough, if I can get hold of one. Thanks for the info.
Gretsch makes some that LOOK almost identical, but as to playing and sounding similar, I couldn't say:/ The ones that look similar are actually very nicely priced - somewhere in the $500 range, I think. *I* can't afford that at the moment, but for most people, I imagine that's quite a steal for "That great Gretsch sound"! :D
... I'm mostly here to drool over the 'Wreck, I'll be honest:(
Not yet. I probably will put the tunes there soon as I'm getting close to selling out of my 1st CD in "hard copy" form. Also currently I'm working on a 2nd CD but it will be a while before it will be completed though I may post some samples of it here later this fall.
I moved to Albuquerque from the East Coast two years ago, and I became a born-again native New Mexican. I am currently out of state on family business and have been for six months now. Seeing this video today and I now know that when I finally drive back to my beloved home state, I will be hearing this song in my head from the state border to my home steps. Thank you Glen for this.
I agree it's a nice combination and I plan to use it a bit on my next CD. It's also very cool with some mild overdrive. Something tight and angry about it, in an ACDC sort of way!
You are correct! However I did rewire the guitar an added some treble bleed caps on all 3 volume controls. That helps it to retain a good clear tone even when turned way down which is needed with the high gain Trainwreck amp. Stock these guitars actually get muddy when turned down but not here. In this video I have the amp set in the same high gain setting as my other videos, but it's much cleaner simply because the guitar volume knobs are backed way off.
Hi Glen!!! I love this! I lived in New Mexico (Albuquerque) for four years...loved it. This song "feels" like beautiful New Mexico! You are SOOOOO talented! Hope to see you at the Herndon High Reunion....Cheri Guest
Hey Glenn, Stacy C here from HHS. Suzi G put a link on FB so people could find you. Have not heard your music since Marriane M sent me the WAMA Cd, saw you at the 10yr,. you do know about the 30yr. in Oct? I especially love this song, I live in NM now. Guessing you have spent some time here cause you nailed it. Are you on FB have not seen your name yet., There is a HHS class of 78 to join, look me up I have some great old party shots from back in the day!
Thanks! Folks if you like what you hear my intrumental guitar CD is only $10! This song "New Mexico" is on the CD with all the leads played on a round neck Dobro, before I got the Silver Gretsch. Sounds cools also in an acoustic format. Search on EBAY for: "Glen Kuykendall CD"
Luckily last year I got a Fender & Gretsch "artist" endorsement deal. The guitars were not free, but I got both my Fender relic strat and this Gretsch Silverjet for a VERY nice discount straight from the factory rep.
Very nice piece. That Trainwreck amp is too good to be true. I read here you do some wiring mods, you should try some of those rare Sprague "paper in oil" caps. I always thought they were just urban legend but in my sg's they're magic. Goodbye Orange Drops.
I don't know the exact reason why but the Sprague Oil in Paper caps really roll the "edge-i-ness" off the highs and warm the overall tone. I installed them in my two custom strats w/ kinnman pu's, my '63 SG Jr.,my '74SG Special, & my Strat project guitar and the sonic differences are really amazing. I had been using Spargue Orange drops and Mallory Mustard caps prior. If you ever come across more... they are like gold. Check out what they go for on E-bay.
I got this guitar brand new this year through my Gretsch artist deal, though I think it was built in '07. The pickups are stock, though I came up with my own wiring mods to retain the highs when it's turned down.
AWESOME!!! Another amazing video Glen. My Express is taking shape as we speak, I'll be wiring up the chassis hopefully this week if I got the time, we got another rehearsal and a gig, and work itself keeps me busy as well.
Hi Glen, Now I don't know which one I like the best both are so incredible. I was listening to your cd the other day...Amazing. Love your new guitar. Best wishes, Billy ;)

Yes, it's a semi hollowbody with stock Filtertron pickups. Even with the Bigsby it's a really light weight guitar.

Yea....running a pickup's signal through two volume knobs makes 500K into 250K. Master volume guitars are usually a recipe for mud.
