i read this book at school, i love the ending: the inspector wasn't a real policeman, then they are called because a real inspector is coming =P

I am rather scared of that music, what is it? I'm studying this play for GCSE too and it is absolutely fantastic!

It's a composite thing made up from some stock spooky music, a music hall song and a clock ticking a fire effect and footsteps. The director was very keen on the clock ticking until the inspector arrived and then stopping till he left. And then at the end some spooky footsteps climbing the steps from hell to claim them. As the designer I might have been thinking too hard about it...

So lots of things really all mixed together.
