On TV you only start getting big paychecks when the show becomes a hit and The Hills asn't until season 3.

@erikbjorns Montag didn't make 100 grand for 3 years. they were probably paid a few thousand an episode when it started--if anything at all, it's possible only Lauren was paid for season 1, it was a new show after all and everyone else were unknowns, It had to be only the recent seasons (4, 5 and now 6) that they managed to get crazy numbers for their participation. On TV you only start getting big paychecks when the show becomes a hit and The Hills asn't until season 3.
