  • Wow! I just happened to stumble upon this clip b/c I'm from Texas. I've marched in high school and college in this style as well as high-stepping and this is an AMAZING performance. I didn't expect the visuals on the field but I guess that was the director's goal...element of surprise. Well done, ESPECIALLY for a high school band.

  • Im proud to be a member of this bad, we arent as good as we were back then, but we are still pretty good, forget that spinny junk, get off the field and into a dance studio

  • for a high school band to be able to put on this type of performance is fantabulous, marvelific, tremendousfull, This is the type of marching that I like to see; non-stop marching, and playing. Lots of hard work is needed for this type. The thing about these types of performances is that if a single member screws up, its very easy to notice it. those "bands" with marimbas, and tympani should stay off the field and do their "stuff" in an auditorium, not a football field. Great going Kindwood

  • Ancient or not, I love to see things done well, and this is extremely well done...listen to the clear, crisp and clean sound of the music and see the precision of the stepping, and the straight lines....this is a nice change of pace from the backward marching snake routines everyone does these days.

  • thats really good...ive been in a miltary marching band. a very small one.only about 150 kids. But for a 2A school we ranked in at the best military marching band in the state of texas. Yall should check it. White Oak State Band 2009 is the vid. u wanna seee our drill this year check out rlwhatleys channel.

  • Band, we are still pretty great actually. For kingwood. (:

  • I'm a freshman in this bamd, were p

  • I'm a sophomore in the band now. We are terrible. You can't even tell this is the same bad. It's disappointing.

  • I was a Sophmore that year. It was an AWESOME drill. We came in first in music from all judges and would have made it to the finals that night had it not been for 1 marching judge who obviously had something against military bands. I think we were placed in the single digits from two judges and almost at the end from the 1. Top 7 went on, we came in 9th :(

  • This is an amazing military style show. Love it!

  • Saw this band in LA when I was in HS. AMAZZZZing.

  • The closing fanfare is very neat. Did Larry Ward arrange this? If so, how would one go about purchasing a copy?

  • @anton12ish its been 10 years since i was in school, but i think he did do the arrangement. pop in AHS and ask em?

  • it's an arrangement of Crown Emperial. he arranges different things for his bands every year so I'm not sure what his policy is about selling them...

  • all the way to state only to find out the load crew forgot to load the plumes...good times. km4b co 2000.

  • Whoever calls this boring is so dumb! This is amazing!

  • I second that. However, Kingwood has lost its edge since Larry Ward moved to Atascocita.

  • boooring

  • I love Kingwoods band... UIL has been trying to kill that style for the longest. Im happy they continue to do it.

  • great job by the way

  • kingwood gave us a run for our money better than other bands, but its Cleveland all the way baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You must be talking about recently because during this time frame Kingwood sweeped or won every award possible at the NAMMB. I haven't kept up with Kingwood since I graduated in '99.

  • Cleveland is 4A I think. I graduated in 99 too, and my freshman and sophomore years were at Nederland High School. We won the 4A at NAMMB both years I think. I know one of the years for sure.

  • Well actually Atascocita won in 5A this year believe it or not

  • Oh, I believe it. Kingwood has not been the same since I graduated in 1999. Congratulations to Atascocita.

  • dang...one big band...such an amazing sounding band...and you sure can tell mr ward is the director by the style of the performance

  • Great memories! Everyday from 3 to 5 on the hot blacktop avoiding parked cars, high G's on the clarinet, and yelling at people to get into the diagonals was all worth it. The best part was watching this on those tiny charter bus tvs on the way home.

  • AAAHH! Those low brass runs. THE BEST!

  • Alan your dad is a beast.

  • Dang, they're HUGE!

  • Not long after that I think they split the band up and it was never the same....

  • it was better, they brought obliques back that year. It also made the incoming freshman better because the basics were down when they joined the big band.

I was in the last true freshman class and was bused over from the 9th grade. The freshman always slowed down the drill and numbed what could be done. anyways, imo

  • Heck yeah it's awesome!!! I marched in the contest as a freshman that year. It was an honor to be there.... we worked hard to look that good!

  • I agree!! I was there as well. It was my junior year. It was a wonderful experience. We sure did work hard to get there.

  • I seriously just crapped myself

  • Wow, this is a great military band. Making 5A state is definitely an honor, too, especially in a contest that's mostly judged for corps-style.

  • One word : AWESOME !!! This is by far the most impressive performance by a high school military marching band that I have ever seen. Longview High School Band has turned in some pretty amazing drills in its storied history, but this performance by Kingwood is absolutely jaw-dropping. WOW !!!

  • A classy band!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL... Thats the "norm" my friend

  • Your mom does. And wow! Does she ever!

  • WOW that is impressive. SO many high school students with discipline ! They must have been tortured to get it right ! haha no i kid i kid...very well done. There is no way I could memorize all those turns and patterns. Im sure those students picked it up in a week or two.

  • Looks great, but it's not the first time that Kingwood was in the State marching competition...I marched there with KM4B in 1988. That was also the first year of NAMMB competition at Texas A&M when Kingwood won Best in Class, Best Overall, and Best Performance of Military March Music.

  • I know Kingwood went to the State Marching contest, but I couldn't remember what year it was.

  • This is increadible. Unless you have actually performed in a military band, you have no concept of how difficult a drill of this level is. Unlike corps they are constantly facing away from the judges, audience and even each other. And they never stop playing. CHOPS. And actually I disagree this drill is very well designed especially with such a huge band. I would rather watch a military performance any day over a show with props and bad flag corps.

  • I agree 110%. Being in a military band is EXTREMELY difficult, but rewarding. Especially in a band this size! From countermarches and flanks, to about-faces and nonstop playing of traditional military marches...military bands are so mucg better than corps.

  • WANNA SEE ANOTHER AWESOME MILITARY PERFORMANCE?? Just search "The Pride of Lindale" and watch the Lindale High School Military Band at the Region XXI contest in 2007. We recieved our 34th consecuive year of 1st divsion marching! We got 3rd place at the Area C contest (alternate to state). We were the only military band in finals!

  • This is very true. My director is from Kingwood and he expects us to do a very good preformence. We have our ups and downs, but it is very difficult to do a Military preformence.

  • I have it somewhere, I agree...Longview Was amazing that year...I remember something about Lord Of the Rings Fanfare!

  • It's crazy how many people are in this band. Thats why the drill is not that entertaining because there is so many people.

  • marching in straight lines like this is difficult...But if it's all you practice, you better be good. A for keeping those nice lines! C- on the entertainment factor...very boring!

  • COMMENTING ON EPIC VIDEO

  • lol, its the video I have memorized because Balch showed it to us so often.

  • *posts in Holy Video*

  • Nice drill

  • my brother is in that band!

he is a trumpet player(Austen Sherick)

  • I remember this performance at NAMMB...lol, one person did a 'to the rear' early, and there was a hush in the crowd cuz of one mistake...everyone was worried...lol

  • yea, well in counter marching, a wrong move could end up in an injury. COULD, not that it will...

  • oh, they were yard lines apart...they were out of harms way, it was just the fact that you could easily see the mistake being it was easily visible

  • @danielb1787 Especially when there's a trombone involved

  • This is clean but the drill is ancient...like 1982....

  • what do you mean ancient? like the drill style?

  • YES

  • @georgiaboi420 shut the fuck up this is amazing!
