  • despite the veyron being half a tone heavier its over a second faster doing 0-60 is 2.5, why anybody would want to do that on the roads shock me. and for only $50k you can get a subara which is just as fast.

  • You have to love the Elise for its impeccable handling and track performance. But on the other hand, my hat is off to the Veyron owner for actually taking his car to the track instead of keeping locked away in a garage.

  • The second key is for top speed mode which lowers the suspension and RETRACTS the spoiler. The keys don't affect the power output of the engine, other than limiting the top speed (to 230 odd mph) In any respect you couldn't drive the car in top speed mode on a track, as the second you touch the brakes it reverts to handling mode.

  • series 3 1987 v8 vantage x pack, aston made 80 of them and probably less than half are on the roads today

  • i was only using it as an example, and it is rare i except that there are rarer cars like the Aston Martin DB4 GT Light Weight only 2 were made. and if your going to work on engines then there is only one Aston like my dads with that engine as each on is hand made, you will never see 2 identical engines, then as the body panels are hand rolled and beaten there only one with that body.

  • Actually the car is worth 4 million dollars but you get it for a cheap price of one million dollars for a limited quantity.

  • Note that the Elise doesn't even have 200 horse power. Thats why the other car was killing in straights its weight and dynamics are designed for corners. not to mention the extra passenger in the elise really was a disadvantage in this race.

  • i do love fast cars, and i do love the veyron's astonishing statistics. but one thing which is a let down: the exterior, although the drag coefficient is low, it lacks beauty in comparison to the mc12. the interior is however, glorious and almost perfect. the shape looks like the old bugatti, but it's not all pretty. nice power though, an engine like that is a technological achievenment

  • Your a fool if you think that, go check nurburgring lap times. See what cars are faster, and what cars are close. I will give you a hint, its from Chevy and its called a Z06. Its not faster but, when you factor in price dif, its a bit of a land slide.

  • Right but what my point was is the Veryon wasn't build for the track, and the nurburgring lap times prove that as a car thats 1.4 million dollars cheaper can lap it only two seconds slower. The Veryon is an amazing car, dont get me wrong, but a tad bit over priced, as only us amercians race in a stright line, or so says europe.

  • The Nurburgring lap time was done by a test engineer, an average driver. Give the Veyron to a professional, the lap time will be much better. As for the price, your argument has no clue. The Veyron is a high quality engineered supercar bundled with luxury that happen to outdo many production cars. It will be a while manufacturers will be able to match the Veyron as the whole package.

  • I will agree with you about it being a supercar, but for the price, its pointless. If you were to invest 1.4 million into a Corvette, it would do a bit better than the Veryon.

  • As the engine is underpowered, a w16 with 4 turbos only makes 1001hp. We can make that from v8s. Also people forget about what a supercar is, its not about having the nicest ride quality, thats what a luxury car is for. But in the end its a pointless argument as, we each have our own view. They are different classes of cars.

  • It's 1001bhp that you can use reliably, with only minor servicing, like a normal car. It will never overheat. The engine might do 200,000 miles in it's life. A 1000-2000bhp dragster needs regular engine rebuilds. That's the difference.

  • I highly doubt minor servicing, as look at Ferrari, They need a tune every 30k miles I think, and its not cheap either. But you are right about the engine rebuilds, but you could bolster more power without hurting the engine, with 4 turbos and 16 cylinders, but thats my view. I didn't build the car so, I guess I will take out a loan for 20 million and build my own super car I guess....Lol

  • Yes you can reach the speed or near speed of a veyron with a modified Corvette, but think of this:

    "Stock" Veyron = Modified Corvette "about"

    "Modified" Veyron > a fighter jet "laughs"

    Theres room for modifying the veyron where you have to do things to other cars that will ruin them in a short time just to get close to the speed of the veyron.

    Its stock, even though it is a great car and it is worth 1 million dollars that doesn't change the fact that it is stock and there is always something you can do to better a stock car.

  • Actually there is nothing more you can do. It's already jam packed with so many things it's impossible. 10 radiators, 4 turbochargers, the list goes on...

  • Its not impossible at all. The car is built for reliability too remember so you could in theory remap the ecu, turn boost up ect and get more power but it would not likely be very reliable anymore.

  • They are both quite good. As most exoics require a totaly service every, 30k or so? But what my point is, the Vettes only 70k. A bit different than 1.5 million. If you put even another 200k into the Vette, incuding interior and engine work ect it would be better than the Veryon on every account.

  • Not going to try to say the Lotus has a chance in any case, but a supercharged K20/K24 motor would make it a lot more interesting. You could easily double+ the torque compared to the stock motor.

  • The Veyron is too heavy to be considered a race car. On a small windy track, I'd back an Ariel Atom to own it. On a long track where top speed matters, I'm backing an Ultima GTR or Cerbera Speed 12, everytime, as they are SO much lighter, and with the tyres fully harnessed up to the road, the veyron's 4 wheel drive will be negated (all it is good for is 0-60 times, between 100 and 200, the Hennessey Viper outdoes it, and that weighs a LOT more than the Ultima or TVR).

  • Ultima GTR is a kit car. TVR is basically a race car and Hennessey Viper is a tuner. The Veyron was never designed to be a race car anyway. End of story.

  • Why does it matter the Ultima GTR is a kit car? It's an amazing car, and will out accelerate a Veyron to 200mph. It'd destroy it on virtually all fronts, except top speed.

  • Wrong, the Veyron got acceleration/braking and cornering covered against the F40. Majority of testers were surprised by its handling even though it is heavy and not designed for the racing track. Recently, the Veyron did Prescott Hill demonstration its ability to turn around the corner. F40 wouldn't stand a chance.

  • Look it is plain simple the lotus elise is really not considered a supercar to me. I mean come on an engine as weak as that is just not good enough for the supercar class let alone the bugatti veyron with 1000 plus horepower. Almost every other supercar you know produces at least 400 or 500 and up horsepower so the lotus is really not that good compared to the others unless there is a supra or skyline engine swap.....

  • Clearly you dont remove all downforce. Thats actually IMPOSSIBLE with a formula one. The body alone creates downforce, but you use minimal downforce to maintain traction and the highest possible terminal velocity. Get a clue.

  • Hence the use of front and rear wing, you forgot the tires are completely exposed to the air reducing the grip especially on the front when going at high speed. A very bad setting on both wing can cause the Formula One flying so it can haappen.

  • wow this is awesome! i think the elise did amazing because it could take the corners very well with very good speed and handling. if there was a course with a bunch of turns and bends the elise would take the veyron down. but in a drag strip the veyron would destroy the elise. this is very good video! worth watching!

  • to everyone who is giving the lotus shit, the lotus elise is one of the lightest cars ever made (at about 1700, correct if im wrong) and also it costs about 50-60k whereas the bugatti costs 1.1 million. per dollar the lotus is one of the fastest stock cars on the track or the street. (the evo/sti is still the best bang for buck)

  • power isn't everything but the elise was catching the Veyron because the V driver had little clue about driving the quickest route thru corners. in the last corner the driver in fact takes the slowest line possible thru the corner. regardless of it's extra weight the veyron should slaughter the elise in all but the tightest corners. i've got an elise. they're brilliant but its 200hp/tonne power-to-weight ratio is no match for 529 hp/tonne in a car with great suspension and excellent chassis.

  • this is a great example that power isn't everything. this lotus was actually faster in the corners than the veryon. the veryon is the 8th wonder of the world but don't knock an elise or exige. they are one of or the best handling car ever made for the road stock. put some work into these cars and they will pass the veryon no problem on a tight course. he was probably afraid to wreck the veryon
