Man, Can't believe I accidentally came across this!! I've been looking for it a few times over the years but could never find it!! How cool is this! And I read you have uploaded some episodes too?!? Thanks so much for this!! Brings back good memories of my childhood. Thanks again!!
I wish they would release this series on dvd. I prefer this Tarzan too the Disney one that came out some years ago, maybe because he looked more believable. lol
I just ordered my TARZAN mego doll from the 70's. Oh yes good times watching this cartoon with my mego world's greatest super heroes. Thanks hexseeker for showing this. Arguably the greatest action hero of them all. Older than SUPER MAN so put that in your pipe Supes and smoke it :)
This is probably the most faithful adaptation of the books, as it was written by people who had actually read and enjoyed them, and incorporated many elements of the books' background, including the mangani language Tarzan uses at various points.
How long did this toon last? Hopefully longer than the late 70's Batman toon w/Batmite (also a Filmation creation.) CN needs to put this on Boomerang since I heard somewhere than CN & WB own the rights to Filmation's toonography. I think I remember watching this circa 1980 (even though it was created in '78.)
I'm certain you mean Blackstar. It was released a few years ago by BCI Ink & Paint, who have gone under in the past year. However, it is pretty easy to track down on Amazon. I also recommend Filmation's Flash Gordon.
That was a good cartoon. Filmation was a good studio, even if they reused stock animation very often. Good rotoscoping on Tarzan at times. Saturday mornings sure were fun back in the 70s.
Damn L'Oreal for buying then killing off Filmation.
Wow! I haven't seen this anywhere since 1978. What memories come flooding back. My dad and I watched this show together every Saturday. Thanks, truly, for the trip down memory lane.
To watch these cartoons is to remember how good Saturday morning cartoons used to be. The animation of Filmation was (and still is) superior to that of any of today's cartoons. This stuff makes me glad that I grew up in the 70's and 80's. Thank you for posting it!
He knew the snake's name, at least. Or, rather, the apes' name for the snake, if the many times he's had to deal with one is any indication.
(Tarzan grabs the snake by the tail, swinging around the branch until it uncoils.) "You should know better, Histah! Tarzan is too big a mouthful for you!" (He ties the snake into a knot.) "Go until yourself, Histah, and leave my friends alone." (the snake slithers away.)
This was the best well-produced cartoon ever in my opinion. The movement of the characters were very life-like. Great storylines and you'd never lose interest in the show. I haven't seen this in almost 30 years. Great post! This was a real cartoon.....next to all the Bugs Bunny-Roadrunner hour shows.
Yup.........I agree...........I was just a kid, but I "knew" somehow that this was a quality show.....I have not seen that intro for 30 years.........holy friggin cow.....thought I was imagining things.
this was one of the best cartoons ever televised! it taught children manners, respect and courtesy for all your fellow people and animals and also taught you to be brave and stand up for good and repel the bad! brought back many childhood memories!
I loved this but some reason I was thinking there is a part where the is swimming and twists his head back and forth when he comes out of the water...maybe that was a different Tarzan cartoon but i thought it was in the intro. I also remember him saying something which to me sounded like "Unk Jumbulga" which I say all the time...because I have no life...
When I first stumbled upon the intro I was overjoyed, but then I found that you've uploaded lots of episodes too.
I loved this series when I was a little kid and is partly the reason for my continuing love affair with all things African.
Thanks again for keeping these over the years and now sharing them with the world. I really appreciate the time and effort this must have taken. It's individuals like you that make the internet so great!
Does anyone remember The Trollkins - Tiny hillbilly-like creatures on the Saturday morning cartoon TROLLKINS/CBS/1981-82. The Trollkins lived in the forest city of Trolltown. The main citizens of this elfin society included Mayor Lumpkin (Paul Winchell), his daughter, Pixlee (Jennifer Darling), his son, Blitz (Steve Spears), Sheriff Pudge Trollsom (Alan Oppenheimer), his bumbling helper Deputroll Flake (Marshall Efron), and Flooky the dog (Frank Welker).
Man, us forty-somethings got to see ALL this! The '70s and '80's!! Cartoons AND movies, AND even t.v. shows rocked. Hell, even the commercials!!!

Is that a l-..Oh screw it. Cartoons don't often follow logic.
70s cartoons have a certain feel to them. No matter what time you watch them they feel like a saturday morning cartoon.

of course! reptiles don´t trust anybody! even those people who keep snakes or lizards as pets get harmed by such " pets" any time ever!

It came closer to ERB's version then any other movie or television show!
I just wish they could have shown him actually fighting and not just jumping out of his foe's way!
