Man their aint a music in woman in the 21st xcentury fucking wirt this woman and thats the only way I know how to say it, shes pure voice and octave unexplainable, gift from God Truly!
This woman is a true artist, and she is so humble about her craft. She is evidence of a songstress with true God Given Talent. It's one thing to have talent, its another thing to have God Given Talent and to know what to do with it. She Knows exactly what she has and how to use her instrument to its fullest. I am in awe of her. She is Fantabulous!!!!!
This song is beautiful;, i think she is underated.my wife jarmonica loves Regina bells songs you can check Jarmonica out covering is it the way by jill scoot. Jarmonica is a Jazz singer. happy viewing.
Absolutely stupendous! She has the best breath control of any singers I have heard. She can do 5 minutes of vocal work with one breath! My brother and I are always in awe when we hear her. Incredible gift!!!!
Neither she nor Nnenna Freelon have gotten their just due...Sad because this is singing...the same way show business can shove doo doo auto tune down our throats and MAKE people accept it...they have the power to make people ACCEPT REAL TALENT...
I am still basking in the afterglow of seeing this woman live Saturday night. I cried throughout the entire concert. This woman had a cold, was struggling and could STILL sang most of these wannabe singers under the table!!
The problem with her voice and her, overall to me is simple. She's 10 TIMES BETTER LIVE. Sorry, but her CDs, and her studio recordings just do NOT CAPTURE the subtle textures, and controlled improvisation of her amazing musical gift. Her voice is a TREASURE that can MOSTLY be appreciated LIVE!!!!
please. to get real soul and feeling out of an artist today would be like performing brain surgery. r&b and music at large has turning into pop. theres a distinctive sound in the air of music today and it hate it.
What music from Coleman, Duke and Ferrell!!! thanks for uploading. Please Rachelle, listen to the song WAITING FOR YOU under CD SOLO by JORGE HERNANDEZ on iTunes. Downlaod it, learn it and make it yours. Only Jorge, the composer has recorded it. It has lyrics in Spanish and English.
She does make faces - doesn't she? However,Rachelle is a true artist. She does what it takes emotionally, facially(if you will) and vocally to deliver. And deliver she does. Back in the day we would say that she gets "ugly" with it to describe her type of great performance. I wish more artist of today would get "ugly" with it but the truth is - they can't. Well, they could but it would not make a difference. That's the sad part.
I wonder what people mean when they use the term 'underrated' to describe someone like Rachelle Ferrell! I think that is a slur. Just because someone is 'pop'ular doesn't mean they are any good. Those who are in the know, will appreciate this artist, those who aren't on this musical level yet are just missing out. They haven't gotten out of primary school yet and 'pop' is all they can handle. Has nothing to do with 'rating' Rachelle, just has everything to do with people's musical level.
she has litterally THE PERFECT VOICE if there was voice that had to battle the devil and we had to pic the choosen one outta every vocalist it would be this lady (crazy example but yall get me) she invented the woed SKILL
What an orgasm. Two times. George Duke and Rachelle, piano and vocal. Never in my life, except Chick Corea & Bobby McFerrin, i've heard such a connection so big.
6:07 - 6:30 is such sweet sorrow. The performance is phenomenal, of course. 15+ second notes. Swooping, sweeping, emotional, vulnerable, playful..double octave jumping. That husky low B at the end. What else is there? What else is there to music?! Jeez!
Yess the divine Miss Ferrell. So sweet and dominating you "almost" overlook the melodic keystrokes of Mr. Duke the jazz genius. What a pair. "Au pair" ??? My french stinks LOL.
she teaches us the true spirit of vocal harmony and vocal spirit. my 12 year old daughter is blown way I am tearful that my princess is finally finding what real music is. she was rambeling around the house using her open mouth octive tones and the smile on her face was priceless ....thank you Rachelle Ferrell
I like Deborah Cox BUT she DOES NOT have the vocal ability and dynamics as Rachelle. Sorry. Rachelle is just wonderful. I bought everything she made including her Live cd recorded in Europe. If you don't have it go get it. It's worth every dime.

the perfect combo, the two of these people make. this lady gives me chills everytime i hear her. i nearly passed out when i saw her at the bluenote. just amazing
Yeah...what Yuneeq said...I too ran through the gamut of emotions and I'm stuck with that after-some-gooooood-lovin-don't-touch-me feeling. Rachelle's talent is...literally beyond words!

WOW! I tell you. I've got an ok collection of CDs and when I'm lost for something to listen to and can't make up my mind, I turn to Rachelle. One of my most played. I love her so much. Thanks for posting.
She does remind me of Al Jarreau singing or even Bobby McFerrin. Bobby has a serious range and plays around with notes seamlessly as she does. He also makes those weird faces. I love them both!
I am such a fan and still can not find anything on DVD my her except Autumn leaves....I talked to some friends in Greece they can't even help me....help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is SO GREAT and it's impossible to find any Rachelle's DVD! Can somebody help me? I would love to have a DVD of Rachelle singing jazz like this song with George Duke!!!! I'm a jazz lover!!!

Rachelle Ferrell's, Voice is well rounded, Her voice has Billy Holiday, Nancy Wilson's pleasant jazz sound, Then she gives you the high pitch like Minnie Ripperton, Deniece Williams, Then she gives you the range like Patti Labelle, Chaka Kahn. i loovee her fqacial expressions lol but besides that OHHHHHDEEEEEEE HERR VOICEEE IZZZ FREAKING AMAIZING!!!!!! LIKE I FRIGGIN GOT CHILLLSSS!!! AGHHH!!! she has wonderful voice control
Watching her reminds me of watching jazz great, Al Jarreau. I want to call 911 to get the brotha some help, but damn, that man--like his jazz sis Rachelle--can sing the notes right off a piano!
Rachelle, has such an instrument!!! Her mouth is so mobile. She reminds me of Joe Williams, he had a sick range and could sing anything and do anything with his mouth. Rachelle is just amazing!
I can't wait for them to release the whole DVD of this concert. I have this cd and all of them. Love ya Rachelle! And thanks to Leeantony for posting this.
I don't know but it pisses me off! They probably won't here in the United States because concert DVD's usually don't sell well, plus Rachelle is so unique they wouldn't know how to market her. That's why she's never really blown up the way she should here.
One of the most diaappointing things to me is that this lady has never gotten a chance in the states to be one of our true musical darlings. Rachelle is one of the best voices ever to grace the music industry. She has one of those timeless voices. She does very well in cities that promote real jazz music like Atlanta. I agree with you that the industry didn't know how to market her unique talent. She was touted as the Ella Fitzgerald of our time.
I wish. I love that song. She sang a bit of it b/c I requested it in March at the Blue Note in NYC. If I ever get a video of that song it will be on here with the quickness!
I agree, it is futile to compare singers of different vocally stylistic backgrounds. Rachelle comes from the Sarah Vaughan school of stretching and milking a song for every ounce of beauty it can produce. Patti and Aretha are vocal belters more adept at milking all the emotion a song may contain and conveying it in a performance. All are excellent at what they do. Appreciate.
Holy S*it!! I was just looking on youtube for things from City of Angels (Cy Coleman), and found this. Beautiful song, and Rachelle F*cking Ferrell!! Girl is unbelieveable!
This is so f@cking good. Thank you, Rachelle and poster. For long I have been a 'fan'. Especially the jazz album. My favorite: My Funny Valentine. Ciao, Bart
thats the point...noone does it like her. for instance patti has "competition" from chaka or aretha, whereas theres nooone "like" Rachelle.Thats why shes da booommb
Patti offers Chaka no competition. But that's a whole nother story and discussion. Same thing with comparing Rachelle, to the other three. Different type careers, hence, different type of live performers. But Rachelle is certainly great. God bless her.
wOW! What an exmple. I figured, when I can do that range, I'll be happy! She's so beautiful. And George Duke just makes me cry! He is the substance of subtlety.
I'm so glad so many of you know Rachelle. Living in a small country (population-wise), it's disconcerting to know that people simply aren't aware of all the artists of this calibre out there! Glad to have company. But I have to disagree with some of you: she's a singer (sound) in her own right & cannot be compared to the diehards of the early days.
What a range, close to perfection. Wow

Why does it take 10+ years to release the DVD?? Will they ever?
barose1 4 years ago

WOW!!! WORDS CAN'T EXPLAIN

Appreciate.

thats the point...noone does it like her. for instance patti has "competition" from chaka or aretha, whereas theres nooone "like" Rachelle.Thats why shes da booommb
matthewcleffert 4 years ago
