The "mountain" it refers to is Jesus. See Daniel 2:34-35.  Jesus is the stone that was cut without hands that smashes the terrible image. This stone then becomes a great mountain that overtakes the earth.

The Third Temple has to happen before Jesus' coming. Messiah himself made that clear in his Mount Olivet Discourse as he makes reference to the abomination of desolation in the Third temple (Mark 13:4-23 ref. Dan 12:11)

Christ already rebuilt the temple 3 days after his crucifixion. The temple was rebuilt on Christ's resurrection. The temple is the body of Christ. John 2:19 - 21

How do we continue to build on God's house. We win souls to christ by spreading the gospel; bearing much fruit. We are also the body of Christ which is a new temple or Church that will be rebuilt on Christ return.

The Muslim Desolation standing in the holy (set apart) place, will stand there until Yahshua Messiah returns. Then when he returns he will rebuild the temple, but it will be much larger than the original (Ezekiel chapters 40-45).
