Most humans live in cities. So no the planet would be glassed. But they want to colonise the planet not destroy it so they remove the native population. Meaning something on Earth is important to them...

@TigerMilitia Yeah but they aren't just invading Earth, they are invading the entire galaxy. In Mass Effect 1 Sovereign stated that this is a cycle, they let sentient races build up their civilizations for millenniums just to destroy them, and they just don't destroy them they use them as a resource. As seen in Mass Effect 2 the Reapers need the organic matter of living beings in order to reproduce (hence the organic and inorganic Reapers). So they don't want Earth, they want humans.

Yes, you have right. The whole mass relay system is a perfect trap too. Every advanced civilization based on the technology of the relays. They exactly know that the organic species will find them. And then they develop and at the apex of the history they arrive. Who knows how many times did they do that. The Protheans were not the first.

Well Shepard has a translator that makes everything sound english. FemShep even mentions that her translator must have glitched in a conversation with Thane.

It would be reasonable to assume that people who dont interact with a lot of aliens wouldnt have such devices.

@macss2 If you read the codex in the game there's an explanation for that. It says that they all have integrated chips or something that allows everyone to understand each other. The aliens might be all speaking there own languages but since we're human we hear it as english.

@macss2 It's the future. Odds are, there's some sort of augmentation of some sort, or VI (virtual intelligence) that can translate it, real time, into any language. Meaning, every species may be speaking their own language, but it will translate to whatever the default language is set to.
