the acting in this film is phenomenal and the atmospherics and mise-en-scene are amazing...the costumes, settings and props all look incredible. Tomas Alfredson deserves an award for his incredible directing but to me this film was too slow and lacked action...but I can fully appreciate how beautifully made it is

@Gavin48 It's actually much more of a character study than a plot machine movie. The twist wasn't obvious to me but it wasn't really anything special. But the movie isn't really amount the mystery. It's more about how these people deal with the realities of the mystery which is where the real drama comes out.

If you can't concentrate for 2 hours, want to stuff your face with food, have issues with sitting still or have a short attention span / memory then this film is not really one you should watch. Don't expect anything to explode or long car chases - the tension is all in the dialogue.

Read the book then watch the BBC mini-series.  It is the best screen adaptation of a book I've ever seen.

And Europeans would go watch it, just like they go watch American blockbusters when they are released over there.
