I work for Geek Squad. Your fan is failing. It will soon fail completely, and your computer will start shutting off due to overheating. Recommend you replace the fan.

Call Sony, tell them your fan isnt working, and they send somebody over to replace the fan with a new one. Mine works great!

Yep. Same thing happened here. I live in US, an I bought one for college, and i'm finally getting it fixed. SONY support guy on the phone was total dick. i hope on-site technician isn't.

omg my vaio does the same thing! same noise to the T....my boyfriend said it sounded like an airplane trying to take off or a lawn mower trying to start. I've tried talking to someone at sony but they just gave me a link to another website and hung up on me! If you happened to have found something out can you message me?

I called SONY and requested them to replace my laptop fan and they did send a tech guy to do that. It is now much better. You should call them again.

Hi guys, Finally I called SONY and they sent a guy to replace my laptop fan. It is now better. My VAIO still makes some noise but it is not that annoying anymore.

hi.. I've got the same laptop and the same problem, they have made the same thing with me, I was happy at the beginning but after two weeks the annoying voice came back.

I wish I never bought that laptop and it would be the last time I buy a vaio laptop.

Take your Notebook to a Sony prestigious store at a time when its crowed. Call for everyones attention and tell them that this is a shity product

Than! smash the Notebook.

Do not forget to bring a friend to film that.

Buy a propper notebook (I got after 3 Month trouble with Sony the X460 from Samsung)

Faulty fan motor..KNOWN Sony defect. You must have Sony repair. WARNING: Back up files before repair. I got my VAIO back and Sony corrupted the op system, apps Word, Excel and printing. A system restore has to be done and apps reinstalled...total nightmare!!! I want my money back..Sony defers to warranty and Sony Centre retailer to guarantee. Only after 2nd repair can I get an exchange..after 3rd, a refund. DON'T BUY SONY..tell your friends and file a complaint to consumer protection agency!!!

I'm not sure about Sony US. However, I called Sony customer service a month ago and they were going to send a local expert to take a look at my vaio in my place but due to some emergency issues I canceled the appointment. Right now I'm very busy so I don't have a chance to call them again. So, I will keep you guys update later when I call them again.

Thank you for posting this--I'm glad that I'm not the only one with this problem... I've got the exact same Sony model. I thought one of my kids got something into the computer fan or something. What an annoyance!

That sound is nothing compared to mine...mine sounds like a growling dog...then it just shuts itself down without warning...This is buy far the worst laptop sony have ever made!!! def not worth the money........The problem is a cheap fan and poorly written drivers for the thermostat...Sony has no fix for this yet and i dont think they ever will.They will replace the fan and the problem will still come back.

This is a sign the fan is failing. Better contact sony and have them replace the fan. Don't wait for the notebook to shut itself down randomly from heat overload.

i have the exact same laptop and i bought it 4 months ago, im in med school right now and i dont need this with all the school headache...will opening up the laptop and cleaning the fan help?

No do not open the laptop, there is nothing stuck in the fan, the fan is failing and after a while it might shut itself down randomly from heat overload, i own a sony vaio cs11s and it made this exact same sound after a few months of use. Unfortunately the only way to fix this is to send it to sony and have them replace the fan. Or if you need the laptop just buy a notebook cooling pad. That way the fan doesn't need to come on that often. Hope this helps.

exact same laptop, exact same problem. The funny thing is that i bought it 2 months ago and it started doing it right now. I used to have a Toshiba, and it had a similar problem. It was fixed 100% by cleaning the fan, vents, and heatsink... But i don't wanna open the vaio until I'm sure it will be fixed that way. If any one finds out something, please post it!
