  • Great song. Seeing it in this venue takes me back to Friday nights in '83 maybe? ;)

  • INCREDIBLE SONG. Great female singer -Jenny lewis is so.....Beautiful.

  • That smile she flashes right after the winking at 3:00 makes me melt every time.

Why can't popular country be like this?!

  • pop music from the future?

  • Just discovered Jenny ..great singer..and funny :-)

    Cool vid...

  • this video so reminds me of lily allen's not fair

  • Too bad this came out before. I hope Jenny Lewis, the Watson Twins, AND Sarah Silverman beat the shit outta Lily Allen.

  • Back when I was a kid and first saw "The Wizard", I knew this chick was gonna be super hot.

  • HAHAHA... The Wizard was one of my favorite movies

  • Que inspirador este video brothers q chevere..

  • Has anyone noticed that from far way, the cover art for "rabbit fur coat" JL looks like an angel? JL is in the center and the Twins are behind her and they look like wings.

  • Looks like an angel? How very dare you, she is an angel lol, true though i'd thought that before aswell!

  • I did notice that. Also, the light on the ceiling looks like a halo.

  • Jenny the next Karen Carpenter?

  • ugh the canned laughter is hard to take after a while!

  • I love this video. One of the best of all time.

Pity MTV doesn't play music anymore. This deserved massive airplay.

  • this is great. another gem from JL. the "ooh ooh oohs" @ 1:25 remind me of the background vox in Dylan's "the man in me".

  • she is the hottest in this video, silverman has got to go though

  • her face looks like heidi klum (;

  • Oddly enough, I see what you mean.

  • COUNTRY MUSIC IS AWESOME

  • thats one of the most beautiful dresses ive ever seen

  • So now I know where Lilly Allen got the idea for the video for "Its not fair".

    This ones better though.

  • This video is perfect for the song. It places it in some kind of anachronistic universe that's just surreal and beautiful. Not to mention the fact that Jenny looks beautiful done up all Loretta Lynn style!

Beautiful song, captivating video ... beautiful art!

  • if you like jenny lewis, you should check out maggie walters

  • I've never heard of her before, and now I feel like an idiot because she is absolutely amazing.

  • You should check out Rilo Kiley - a band she is in.

  • is that jimmy tamborello in sequin overalls at the beginning and end? because if it is, the jimmy = win.

  • I love this song but the laughing over it is so annoying.

  • did jenny lewis do something to her nose? :/

  • sarah silverman? lol why?

  • because she's obsessed w/jenny lewis and the watson twin's music. i remember reading that in a blender article back in '07.

  • Better than your mom, seriously.

  • Jenny Lewis is my icon.

  • why is there a racial debate on this page

  • there is pretty much a racial debate on every page, even if it has NOTHING to do with the video.

  • so gorgeous

  • Great lyrics

  • Jenny looks so cute.

  • If yoou've seen Coal Miner's Daughter, it's impossible to shake the feeling that you're watching Sissy Spacek.

  • Word!

  • It's so damn random for Sarah Silverman to kick this off, but I love that jew and especially Jenny!

  • Um, I am Jewish so, it's like, totally okay!

  • It's a religion, not a curse word.

It's not an insult to say jew, or christian, or muslim or buddhist.

  • You're being sarcastic, right?

  • you're an idiot

  • Could you please explain to me what you mean my the "PC liberal thought-control regime." I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I just hear the term thrown around a lot and I want to understand what you mean.

  • I'm talking about the unofficial system of "liberals" in this culture, who constantly come up with words and ideas that are verboten (forbidden). Race, class, intelligence, poor/rich, sexuality, etc. There are words and ideas no one DARES to express, because of the intimidation. There isn't a free exchange of ideas. A good person can allow others to believe differently, and express that. The "liberals" can't, despite their lip service to tolerance. Ever seen the movie, "The Family Stone?"

  • Oh, okay. Unfortunately I have not seen "The Family Stone."

I have to disagree however, because I don't think you can blame the baggage that is associated with certain words on "liberals."

Black and white (I'm assuming these are what you are talking about) started as colors to specify which race we were talking about. It's when the "whites" started to view the "blacks" as an inferior people that the baggage was attached to the word. (continued)

  • Suddenly being black was a bad thing, or blacks were incapable of learning, reading and writing or creating there own culture. In this case, the baggage that is associated with the word "black" was created by American culture, not just "liberals."

In the case of class, this could be arguably created way back to monarchies. I'm not to familiar with Old English class separations, but I'm positive that there was an "Upper Class" most likely containing Kings and noblemen, (cont.)

  • and a "Lower Class" consisting of slaves and farmers. If we agree that the class system was defined and created a while ago (again not a specialist on class separations) then it can be understood that we borrowed these definitions of "class" so that we would have a way to describe a person who makes over a certain amount of money. The negative connotations can be attributed way back, when the tyrannical king spits on the "lower class." Again, I don't see how "liberals" (continued)

  • were the people who created the baggage associated with class.

Intelligence is an easy one. Germany (I think) needed a test to measure which of it's children were mentally deficient. William Stern created such a test, and it was expanded on by Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon. Ironically, we now use these tests to see how HIGH our intelligence is rather than how LOW. In my opinion, because of the creation of a test, we now needed to classify levels of intelligence. (cont.)

  • It is THERE that people became "mentally handicapped" or "genius." Of course now that people are given such labels people can insult other people by calling them "dimwitted" and "stupid," and thus baggage is formed.

You can group rich and poor together with the class section, and the list goes on and on.

(And yes I do realize that I just ranted on and on about baggage, not about these words being forbidden from today's culture. I'm embarrassed, for it is something I'm passionate about.)

  • In response to the words being forbidden, I again have to disagree with you. Yes, the media jumps on the bandwagon, but only for air time and viewers. Most of these words are "forbidden" because of the cultures disapproving of there usage.

Blacks hated the usage of the word "black" because it was used as a discriminatory term. Now, Kanye West blows it out of proportion and we all laugh at him. I've never heard of people being forbidden from using class, as that is what social security is...

  • Yah this isn't a political debate its just youtubes comment section...

  • Political debate on youtube comments. Please return to talking about how you want Jenny to crap on your face or whatever.

  • Not as stupid as your post!

  • this could be loretta lynn's wedding.

  • This song makes me cry sometimes...

  • Jenny's got an awesome dress:3

  • Is there James from maroon 5 :O?

  • yep, it's james. :D

  • Hahahaha Totally agree with Postmoderntool

  • Very smarmy, postmoderntool. Did your girlfriend come up with that one for you?

  • she's so so pretty!

  • God, the hotness of her face combined with the amazing beauty of her voice is way too much for my brain to handle. i don't think i can watch this video anymore.

  • i want to be jenny lewis.

  • I would have a four way with Jenny Lewis, the Watson Twins and Sarah Silverman.

    ....gay for Conor Oberst.

  • that would be a fivesome.

  • I can't count =0[

  • figured I'd help you out.

  • i want in on this ;-)

  • I think Under The Blacklight was awesome. I hate folk music too because usually its just full of pretentious hipster guys trying to get laid by not really knowing how to play guitar and using ridiculous metaphors that girls think are "deep".

However, I love Jenny Lewis and really appreciate the quality of her song writing.

  • damn, first off, gotta say, love her voice. something soothingly sexy about it. then,I would love to have a 3 way with the watson twins...

  • you're an idiot.

this is her solo project, she went back and made another album with Rilo Kiley because she is still in the band. Also, Under the Blacklight was a great album, anything she does is good, so suck it!

  • I'll bet she's great in bed.

  • I saw her recently, she's got moxie and sex appeal. You just gota see her live.

  • knock your wife!

  • A stone-cold classic -- both song and video.

  • You know a song/performance is great when it still sounds amazing to you a couple of years after you first heard it.... This song is still fabulous.

  • ...i need this song

  • this song is so great.

  • What am I fighting for?

The cops are at the front door

I can't escape that way, the windows are in flames

And what's that on your ankle?

You say they're not coming for you

But house arrest is really just the same

Like when you wake up behind the bar

Trying to remember where you are

  • jenny lewis or rilo kiley.....which is better?

  • Jenny Lewis

  • Neko Case.

  • i also, cannot stop replaying this video, i puy it on my space, like 10 times in a row on my profile there-hee haw;)

  • her dress is so beautiful

  • lol wth sarah silverman

  • The best voice on Earth!

  • WTF!

  • This video is genius, just like the song.

  • This song is about drugs if the cops are at her front door. Just like in the Plane crashes in C album. Why do you think she has that leathery face at times.(beautiful legs always). It wasn't like that when she was Katie Monahan on NBC's Brooklyn Bridge. Then again she was 10 at the time.

  • yea it's about trying to get rid of a bunch of dope before the cops break in

  • I love Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins.

  • The bass player is a HUGE asshole. He is a really good musician, but he is an asshole all the same.

  • You mean if I got it, I'd like it? Or that Hee Haw wasn't painfully unfunny altogether? Did you "get it"? I just sort of wonder how much was Sarah's idea. Certainly wasn't Jenny's...

  • Hee Haw was awful when it was real, and this is worse. Jenny Lewis and her people do a commendable job of being great anyway. Great song, really annoying video.

  • Haha, yeah. Even for a video that's supposed to be campy, this is campy as hell. But the song is fantastic.

  • I'm not sure you quite get it

  • That phrase was uttered by John Bradford. Look it up.

Awesome homage! Jenny Lewis is poetry made flesh.

  • wow her hair looks high maintenance.

    beautiful song!

  • "Where, oh where, are you tonight? Why did you leave me here all alone? I searched the world over, and I thought I'd found true love, Then you met another, and PFFT! You was gone!"

  • with a twist of lemon lol

  • Es buenisimo

  • Like when you wake up behing the bar

trying to remember where you are

    thats too true

  • boring song, but CUTE

  • EXCELLENT SONG! She is so sexy with that voice.

  • FabbyDabby, But WHat's With The Dress... :):S

    xxx

  • She is perfect

    Jenny, I love you!!!!!

    kisses

  • i dont think anyone realises how many times i tried doing my hair like hers.

    and tried singing like her.

    but shes just too perfect.

  • I love Rilo Kiley but the first time I saw this video and heard this song that was it. I fell in love with Jenny. I love her look in this and I remember Hee_Haw!

  • omg 0:10 is my favvv part

  • KUNDYYYYYY

  • 3:00 my heart cringes

  • What's with the annoying laugh track?

  • its just for the video,,,a la "HEE HAW"

  • agreed. i love this song and it's really serious. but the laughing is distracting.

  • I'm marry her too, but I'm a girl =D

She's amazing. Good singer, good writer, good-looking.

  • man, i wonder how awkward it would be if i just asked her to marry me.

  • It would be really awkward, since she's already married to me :-P

  • she's gorgeous.

    has an amazing voice.

    and i LOVE her hair

  • aw jennnnyyy <3 :)

  • Is that JD Ryznar of Yacht Rock fame at 0:08??

  • she looks like the girl from house

  • Haha!

    I think so too!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! =]

  • I LOVEEEEE JENNY LEWIS!

  • Must listen to this song over and over again. Now.

  • 2:51 Bahahahaha, James!

  • not new !!

  • Only thing is she's not new.

She's been around a long time performing with Rilo Kiley.

  • Jenny, I love you.

  • is it me or do all indie girls have fringes (bangs) like that

  • omg i love this

  • The Watson Twins are amazing. They just dropped by our studio for an interview and played a bunch of tunes. The videos are up on my page.

  • Fuck being creepy. They're hot!

  • i adore jenny lewis

but the watson twins are just a lil creepy

  • Sarah Silverman just rules! She's got that Buck Owens fake Hee Haw laugh down perfectly!

  • jenny lewis is so beautiful here, and her hair is incredible.

  • She needs to play Karen Carpenter in a movie NOW. Not only do they look similar, but they both have beautiful haunting voices.

  • Lol, I love Sarah Silverman.

  • Cool! :D hehe

  • how do you know?

  • I meant that it has no deep meaning in that the lyrics aren't spiritual, philosophical, etc. The lyrics just seem to be about someone who's self-centered and happy about it.

You can apply whatever meaning you want to it.
