What song is this? I love it. I saw the lyrics in a book about Vietnam (back when I thought Vietnam was cool, before I thought this stuff, hippies, and peace was cool.)
vw thanks. I didn't get up there because I had to do my time with U.Sam in Texas. Teaching the likes of Bush to fly and keep our country safe from the Reds!
TOMMY BERRIER, WILLIAM BLACKBURN, GEORGE BONNETT, JOHN DAVIS, ISRAEL ESPARZA, MARK W. EVELAND, JERRY FRAKES, CLIFFORD GIBSON, WILLIAM HEIDER, LAWRENCE HUMPHREY, THOMAS JONES, WILLIAM LA GRONE, RODNEY LITTLE, CLIFFORD MC CRARY, MICHAEL MUSE, ARTURO NAZABAL, SAMUEL PIERCE, RONALD SHIPLEY, CHARLES TROXEL, EUGENE TUCKER, JOHN WIBBENS. On August 16, 1969 Country Joe exercised his freedom of speech. On that same day these men gave their lives for their country in Vietnam...
Notice his guitar strap - just a rope. Joe was suddenly "vounteered" to appear on stage solo since the regularly scheduled acts were having a lot of trouble getting there!
yes, but there is no ---Todays version--- of woodstock because:1.) there will never be such an peaceful festival like there
2.)the police, things like drugs or naked people (the freedom) is not makeable with the police. 3.) many people don't care about Afghanistan, the say:,,Mhh, what should i do, what i care" ---THAT DOESNT HELP -.- ---
4.)there are no bands like at woodstock. What is rock today? Pink, Greenday, nickelback? COme one
I agree, Afaghanistan is today's version of Vietnam. Too bad we can't have a modern Woodstock, but with all of the Black-Ops like Video Games, kids today are too violent for this kind of stuff. A huge shame. I wish I was young in the '60's.
This should be shown to all the familes of, (and the) poor bastards who opted to go to Iraq, Afghanistan, etc etc etc! When the histories are written (by the "Victors") and all the dust has settled the dead are still dead WHAT A FUCKING WASTE!!!
@billyconnearly FUCKIN A MAN! THIS SHOULD BE PLAYED OUTSIDE EVERY RECRUITING OFFICE ON THE PLANET. THE SONG IS NOT JUST ABOUT VIETNAM WHICH AMONG OTHER THINGS GALVANISED A WHOLE GENERATION IN ITS DESIRE FOR PEACE AND LOVE, BUT EVERY WAR. WAR SOLVES NOTHING - IT JUST MAKES THE ARMS MANUFACTURERS FILTHY RICH.
@billyconnearly and you are still alive because you lack the virtue of altruism...For some Billy freedom is truly free...Enjoy and embrace it because they earned it for you...
@Drumzncymbalz No mate - the guys in the 'Nam never earned shit - they did their very best but got beaten remember! The guys who earned it for you and me were the RED ARMY, RAF Bomber Command, The Mighty 8th USAAF then Allied Forces in Europe in that order. If it hadn't been for them The Soviets would have overrun Germany, then the rest of Europe. The the USA would have been sucked in without a base over here in striking distance of Moscow! We would all be speaking Russian!! lol Peace, Love,Light

@aharvx this a combined song-
first, the fish song, (the fish were joe's band at the time) then, I'm- fixing-to-die rag.
i discovered a richard brautigan poem when my son wanted to join up and go off to iraq.
luckily that and a threatened trip to the VA hospital got him thinking again.
Star-Spangled Nails
You've got
some "Star-Spangled" nails
in your coffin, kid.
That's what
they've done for you, son.

@Drumzncymbalz Its true they did their duty and they died for nothing.41 years later the U.S. is trading partners with Communist Viet Nam and China.
Shit the U.S.has tried for 50 years to intimidate Cuba and even failed at that.lol
