I love it, no cheering, no emotion, he just drops the rope and looks down with a kind of "meh" look on his face, then just walks away. Epically french
Congrats to the video-makers and the climber of course. It's great to have such unique pictures served to us in our cozy, safe and comfortable chairs.
@jhediun Notice how I never said you were "wrong," I'm just trying to shed some nuance on this topic. Single pitch trad is statistically similar to single pitch sport as far as injury/death is concerned and the accident reports bare this out. Obviously what the man in this video is doing is much more dangerous than the sport version of the route--duh. However, these things are situational. I'm sure no one would argue that a poorly bolted route is "safe" just because it's sport.
@toomanyfingusernames A poorly bolted route can of course be dangerous but then it's the position of the clips rather than the strength of the bolt that's the issue. On trad routes, it's all up to the climbers judgment on each ascent that decides protection reliability. That said, I have nothing but respect for hardcore trad climbers and the video is awesome.
PS. The American Alpine Club is on the same page as I am regarding trad/sport dangers. Maybe they know what they're talking about?
@jhediun Why would I be upset? You reference climbing accidents in your area (which you didn't bother to even specify). Anecdotal evidence is no evidence at all. Most accidents in mountaineering occur due to slipping and falling, with less than 0.2% of deaths occurring from protection failure (2007) and 0.5% due to lightning strike. Many deaths in ANY kind of rock climbing are due to rappel error or rock fall. Statistically, most ER visits from climbing are due to bouldering.
@Jhedlun: Citation needed. Where's your proof of that statement? Oh right, you don't have any. We're just supposed to take your word for it because you obviously know what you're talking about.
@toomanyfingusernames Easy now, don't get upset. All major accidents but one in our area have been trad climbing accidents even though there are more sport climbers. The sport accident was many years ago and was a pure user error (did unclip from the wall when on top rope...). Do you mean that sport climbers often clip in on bolts with questionable strength/fastening? Modern routes are usually well bolted with little risk of hitting ground above 1st or 2nd bolt. Sport is safer. Trad is trad.
So after 4 minutes he places the first "almost totally safe gear on the wall". No wonder trad-climbers are more likely to succumb to fatal falls than climbers using bolts.
wow impressive, was on the edge of my seat the entire climb, ESPECIALLY when he asked his belayer to run down the hill so he dosnt bottom out... nice climb! The £40+ cams just left there for the next person, standard :)

Amazing video, crazy accent. I'm sorry but I have to ask...why in God's name would anybody bother to go through such idiotic measures to send a climb on natural pro? Is it to garner media attention? I guess you got that. It just seams so futile. Seems climbers that can't compete at Onda/Sharma levels are just pulling, what's best described as 'stunts' to get sponsor dollars.
If you want to cheat death, why not just solo? Half soloing is just idiotic. My opinion only...
@KetzalSterling I'm sorry, but Onda/Sharma are not the be all and end all of climbing. Trad climbing is a different game which requires mental fortitude as well as physical strength. This isn't a stunt to get sponsors dollars, but beautiful demonstration of what trad climbing is all about. You must be in control both physically and mentally. Routes like this can be climbed without leaving ugly bolts there. Ketzal when is the last time you climbed anything above grade 14 on trad gear?
@KetzalSterling your comment shows how little you understand about climbing and its disciplines.tbh i doubt ondra would have the head for something like this despite his ability and tbh its not as if arnaud petit is a punter, this guy climbed 8c before ondra had heard of climbing and now he has moved on to adventure climbing, which you obviously dont get.
for me this is the second most inspiring piece of climbign footage ive ever seen, brilliant video and i hope people keep pushing these boundaries
@adrianwaj Most likely by abseiling, if no camera crew is hanging out all over the place already. I guess in this case, they mopped up after him :-). Brilliant climb and beautiful video, by the way.

It seems very wrong. He don't play in a sports routes in a sport crag. If he fall and break a pocket with the cams.... faking, and the rest of us we can not do route.
ya but that's the point exactly: "IF he fell and broke a pocket...", but he didn't, so the route is unharmed, the ascent is incredible and we shouldn't hate on him now.
I have a ligament injury...after watching this ascent I can feel a real advance in regeneration and a rush for climbing :D Cheers from Poland to all climbing freaks! ;)
