I have a suggestion, if you decide to try this look again...don't know if you've thought of it already, but, you should first outline lightly with say an eyeliner where all the lines would go, and rub out where they meet....after that, glue the nails/pins in place, then do the lines like you normally would....might be a bit of a pain to work around the nails/pins, but they might be easier to keep on.....

@SharksBiteOfLife spirit gum isnt activated by oxygen it creates its sticking by being tacked up so thats probably why it wouldnt work for you,a strong solution of liquid laytex works great :)

@SharksBiteOfLife Here's what really works. You need to coat your entire head with liquid latex and then glue the nails on with more liquid latex. It's strong enough to make them stand straight out and not sag. Oh, and don't use real nails unless you're sure no one is going to touch you. Use Q-Tips with plastic shafts and melt each end in a candle flame to form a small disc. Then spray paint them with chrome-colored paint. Works like a charm and will not fall off.

Yeah, you're totally using the wrong kind of adhesive. And the nails are too heavy. I don't think that there's a lighter nail to be used... Creating a pinhead look is extremely hard. I attempted it for halloween this past year, and gave up, and created my own cenobite instead.

Plus, every time you move your face/muscle. The spirit gum gets weaker, there's no way you can do it with that for any extended period of time.

I have dont this one before if you get wax it works better because Spirit glue sucks as any type of adhesive I work at a haunted house in Kansas City Missouri the Beast and I Did make up as well as haunt but their is this new stuff that came out its white and drys clear i can remember the name on the top of my head but i will get it too you or you can you face latex that works really well too! you just have to put that on first!

this is awesome. i'm not sure if anyone said this already, I dont have time to read the other 59 comments, but what if you did the basic pale face, but left blank spots where the nails would go, then put the nails on and did the lines/blood around that? I think because you're trying to stick the nails to the makeup, instead of your face, it's not working as well. It looks awesome tho. and ps. you're gorgeous. :)

Great job - it looks better than 99% of costumes I saw this year. Not a fail at all.

Maybe just try some stickable latex in lines next time, divot out a center channel, and it will look like a realistic trench. Pins will stick into the latex while it is still tacky, and freeze in place when it dries. It will also have more realistic dimension as deep cuts than with just shading.

This tutorial was not a fail. I used your tutorial to create my pinhead look for this Halloween. I changed the nails to tooth picks. I took some tooth picks and painted them with silver nail polish then cut them in half and glued them on with Duo Lash. It really turned out great. You didn't fail at all. Thanks for doing this.

I don't call fail. I think you should try scar wax balls that's colored reddish. Make a little ball, wedge the nail in, and stick it to your face and paint over with bloodscab stuffies. Overall amazing work though!
