I like this, but the intro for the show they have currently is perfect in my opinion. They always make it fit perfectly into the beginning of episodes and the feeling to the current opening just feels right considering how dark and moody it is. This is pretty amazing though.

This is really amazing!!! But it's completely wrong for the series. The AMC series appears to be completely irony free. Having this would make the show look like some sorta black comedy or something. It's all this hyper-ironic, overly referential bullshit (Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, etc.) This fan made opening sequence (though gorgeously made) seems more in line with the trend of those films I listed than what The Walking Dead is really about. Plus this song choice is completely wrong: these lyrics are about vampires or some shit.

I watched the pre-air of the Pilot. Amazing series, obviously. Talking about the opening, it's completely different. This one is in a sort way auto-ironic and more artistic, while the real one is dramatic, apocalyptic and a little bit creepy. I think that the second fill better with the show, but the Kanemoto's one is also amazing. I blame AMC only because it decided to don't use paintings from the comic, it would be better. They're both amazing anyway.

He probably used After Effects. You can animate 2d images in 3d space and use a camera. A lot of motion comics are being made from the original artwork. This opening sequence is awesome.
