  • vote bots,, that is so fucking sad,

a strange way of admitting defeat :P

  • Great footage. We view Sirius, Venus, Mars, Betelgeuse, Moon etc. every evening here. The night sky never used to look like this. Are you using a tripod, because I can't keep the camera steady when in high zoom.

  • its amazing how the moon and all those planets are reasonable close to each other in that picture1

  • Screw the vote bots, this video is five stars!

  • The Christians are just mad that these videos are infinitely more interesting than their videos.

  • true true

  • Great video! I remember seeing this, it was a breathtaking sight. Truly wonderful, thankyou for your amazing videos!

  • woohoo! I finally found these! I was looking

for the right thing the wrong way lol

    yay!

  • i can never get myself out of bed early enough to see these things

  • beautiful

  • There's a song by Porcupine Tree called "Jupiter Island". When I see this video, the beautiful landscape makes me think of it's lyrics.

  • I just saw a very bright planet in conjunction with the moon tonight. It looked EXACTLY like the Islamic flag.

  • Were in England

  • where is saturn? never have charted it with my own eyes.BTw you should have waited just about 15 20 more min would have been able to see mer. and jup. a little bit easier. But you have to be right on your timing cause jup and mer. set within about an hour after full sunset.

  • I loved looking up at this every knight.

  • Fantastic!

  • great vid, I've seen the same thing as well, it was amazing indeed

  • Are Saturn, Uranus or Neptune ever visible by the naked eye? Just curious.

  • Saturn is. I don't think the other 2 are.

  • Saturn is really bright, Uranus you can see, but it is extremely dim,(you need good eyesight, and dark skys), and you cannot see neptune.

  • saturn is out there now

  • Nice you're in england im suprised you found clear sky. If I see you I'll buy you a beer (if i was over 18 that is).

  • nice video

  • cooool

  • What the hell is wrong with HD?

  • Wow, i didnt know we could see planets in the sky! wish i knew how spot them!

  • Where else would you have searched for them if not in the sky?

(OK, to see one planet you just have to look down)

  • Wow, i didnt know we could see planets in the sky! wish i knew how spot them!

    planets dont twinkle

    astromony (dot) com

    is astronomy magazine's website

they have star map (they call it star dome)

tells you to the minte where everything is located if you put your zipcode in

  • Oooh thanks alot, i shall check that out :D

  • stellarium,org

  • thanks

  • at 1:30 the plane sound in the background in addition to the sunset creates a feeling of iminent peace.

  • hd sucks it keeps freezing

  • Yeah, the time length for HD is twice as long for some reason, and the sound goes faster than the video.

  • Wow, HD really screwed up the sound for me..

  • Cool vid though. I can usually only see Jupiter and Venus with the naked eye. Never identified any other planets on my own.

  • Really cool.

  • It would've been cool if you supplemented it with a map of the solar system with the current positions of the planets.

  • Thanks alot TF, I wanted to see this, but:

    1. It was cloudy.

    2. Even if it was clear, I've been sick as a dog for a week.

Thanks for not letting me miss this! *thumbsup*

  • very nice Thunderf00t, the planets have been making some really itneresting movements in the last few months, we get a great view from down here in Aus.

  • It was all foged in where I was. I missed the whole thing. :(

  • "Conjunction Conjunction, what's your function?" Sorry, always wanted to say that in an astronomy vid comment. Love ALL of the uploads on this channel as well as onThunderf00t!

  • That IS amazing

  • thanks for sharing, amazing sight

  • my neighbor (an amateur astronomer) frequently sets his telescope up on my deck

a couple hours ago, he showed me that the moon and Venus had the same phase

  • A few weeks ago Jupiter, Venus and the Moon were together, more or less in conjunction, in a position much like where Jupiter is in the video. I've never knowingly seen Mercury - it really is a bitch to see, makes you wonder what observant sod realised it moved in the sky in the first place. Jupiter is a long way off, but just means we'll catch up to it later in the year, and it will be our friend again.

  • looked the same in the states last night, but i couldn't see mercury. never can see it. alas. ty for video.

  • A friend of mine caught an awesome shot of all three planets and the moon and put it on

  • I have just got my first telescope, but i have been having trouble identifying planets! this is really helpful, thanks:) but will the positions vary much?

  • There are many free astronomy programs (Cartes du ciel, Stellarium, Celestia) which can help you with that.

  • where about's in england were you?

  • Actually, the dark side of the moon is never visible from the earth, no matter where the sun is in relation to it. The darker portion of the moon which you see there is the part of the moon that is currently experiencing night time from our perspective.

  • ... did you think TF is stupid? that is what he meant...

  • of course I don't think he's stupid. I love the guy and I think he's a genius. I simply pointed out that he said the dark side of the moon and that was incorrect. Had he said the world was flat, should I just assume he meant to say it was spherical? Lighten up brother! It's all good.

  • he was talking about the surface of the moon that is NOT light up by the sun is light up by earth's reflection, thus he said the "dark" side, he isn't talking about the opposite of the moon that never face the earth. please put context into consideration, but its all good.

  • Regardless of what you suspect he was talking about. What he said was "dark side of the moon" and it was incorrect. That's all I'm saying.

  • that is what he said, the Earth's shine is on the dark side of the moon, that WAS what he was talking about. and YES there are parts of the moon THAT IS DARK and facing us. so the term " dark side of the moon" IS the incorrect term to describe the opposite of the moon, which of course he wasn't talking about if you even consider the context.

  • Just shut the hell up dude. It's obvious who the stupid one is here, it ain't me and it ain't him.

  • It is you. Look up "planetshine," "dark side of the moon," and "far side of the moon" and see who is the idiot.

In case you want to trust me:

dark side of the moon = side of the moon which is not being lit up by the sun

far side of the moon = side of the moon which doesn't face the earth

planetshine = when light reflected off the plant lights up the dark side of the moon slightly.

  • I see who the idiot is. I'm not confused about it at all. You people completely miss the point for argument sake only. I know what planetshine is and I know an idiot when I talk to one. I simply stated he used the wrong term and he did.

  • Your argument was that TF used the wrong term. The argument is wrong, and in reality you're making a common mistake in calling the far side of the moon the dark side of the moon.

  • " I simply pointed out that he said the dark side of the moon and that was incorrect."

he was correct, you are wrong.

  • You're confused with the far side of the moon.

  • One of us is indeed confused. According to Wikipedia, Earthshine is reflected Earthlight visible on the Moon's night side. NOTE: It says "night side" not dark side. I give up. You guys can be just as ignorant as you wish. As I stated before. I was not saying that beautyintheuniverse was wrong, only that he used the wrong term for the night side of the moon and I'm sure he'd agree if an when he reads this silly little discussion.

  • Here, I'll copy what planetshine is from wiki:

The phenomenon known as planetshine occurs when reflected sunlight from a planet illuminates the dark side of one of its moons.

    Just think about it logically.

DARK side of the moon means that it is dark, right?

What about the DARK side of the earth? When is the earth DARK? When its NIGHT time.

  • If you looked up "far side of the moon," you could find out:

"The far side should not be confused with the 'dark side' (the hemisphere that is not illuminated by the Sun at a given point in time)"

  • Ok, you're an idiot. You don't have to prove anymore to me. I'm going to let you have the last word. I won't respond again. Take you best shot! Dark Side is the wrong term!

  • I don't have it prove it, but I feel that I must because you are clearly ignorant of the truth. If you did about 3 seconds of Google research, you could straighten your misconceptions and learn something in the process.

I'll help you with your Google research. Just copy and paste the following into Google: what is the dark side of the moon?

  • thanks pal. ^.^

  • Admitting you're wrong is not a bad thing. Like in science, you learn from your mistakes and then increase understanding.

  • lol I didn't check youtube for a while and it seems everyone else pwned you. saves me the trouble.

  • "NOTE: It says "night side" not dark side."

yep, dark side IS the night side! DUH. "I give up. "

yes, as well you should when you're failing epically.

FYI: The far side of the moon IS NOT always dark. DUH. The portion that we see as light, as an equal portion of the FAR side of the moon also light. You seem to think the dark side of the moon is caused by the earth's shadow. This is obviously not the case if earth is illuminated via planetshine. Lehman is correct as is beautyintheuniverse

  • Ok, the night side is which side again? Maybe, just maybe, the same side that is dark? I could be wrong of course. Something that you should consider, too. Just admit you mixed up the words. Calling other people idiots won't win you an argument.

Just think again: using your terms, the dark side of the moon is brightly lit at new moon. Doesn't this sound a little wrong?

Btw. wikipedia is no source for credible information, a starting point, yes, but definite, no!

  • Thanks for the post.

    Beautiful!

  • Some people may see knowledge of astology, the stars, moon, etc to be a typical non social case of knowledge no one really wishes to discuss. However you'll be surprised the collected common interest everyone seems to share let it be the knowledgeable scientists to the simple stargazer.

This is good information, nice to know!

  • Sound in HD is choppy for me past 0:30 :(

  • Great video, as always. Your efforts are really appreciated. Keep up the good work.

  • anyone else having issues with the high res? The sound is a bit off.

  • i love this channel, great vid, break out ur awesome ass telescope some more :D

  • I noticed these the other day and wondered what they where - thanks for that =D

Is there a good site to find out where all the planets currently are relative to one another?

  • Outer space is amazing...

  • You're everywhere Tf00t! I wuv this channel!

  • Cool video =)

  • good video btw
