OK, Faldo got a swing analysis wrong, and he hit it like a girl for his size, but you must be forgetting that he won 3 Masters and three Open championships doing it... I think what you said about Tiger's swing is correct, and he is the best golfer who has ever lived, but don't act like such an arrogant twat in pointing out where other people are wrong.
I watched 7 nights at the Academy the other night and Faldo has no idea about the golf swing, he didn't have a clue until Ledbetter fixed him up and he still doesn't. Miller knows more than anyone (he knows too much) Tiger's problem is he is a perfectionist. He could have stayed with his 97' swing but he wouldn't settle for it.
@mossmc Wrong. Just watch the videos. The evidence is abundant and not debatable. You may say that in your opinion lowering is bad, but just about everyone who is worth watching does it, so that argument doesn't really hold up.
Well, as a fellow professional I say we both should wait just a little bit and hopefully the keep going and after a while after they have ruined enough golfswings people have to come and take lessons from dedicated instructors who really know what we are talking about.
What about the tension clearly created at address with their setup preferance!
Nobody in their right frame of mind could claim that! Second TIGER has the Yips. Wow didn´t know that. Knew he has had problems with his failed marriage, two kids. But come on guys are they really that crrazy.
@wdefrancesco Yea didn't you know if you increase your hip speed by 1mph you gain 25mph of club head speed! lol Oh and Tiger Woods sequence is catastrophic he is doomed to be a terrible golfer. jk
@irmadupr Whose, Tiger's or Faldo's? Don't forget that Tiger shot 16 under at the Chevron last year before his knee gave out again and would have won had it not been for McDowell's amazing finish. He also contended at the Masters.
@wdefrancesco ... i think tiger will have the same fate as faldo... too many swing thoughts, maybe win a couple of tournaments here and there but never be the same player as he once was... a guy of his caliber should have won by now and he hasnt so maybe something isnt working as well as it should
wayne, have you ever seen the swing analisis the people at "somaxperformance" do on tigers swing?they make some very bold statements about hogan and trevino.just wondering what you think.i found it alittle disturbing......by the way,i enjoy your vids.thanks
@1019079 Jack used to watch Hogan hit balls. Mr. Hogan didn't watch Jack hit balls. Your comments on Tiger's swing just prove your lack of knowledge. If you don't like Wayne's analysis, watch something else. There are plenty of sesame street videos that you can watch and understand.
Respond to this video... Great comment. Tell that to all the great players who dropped during their swings. Which ones, you ask? Go to my channel and check out all the videos. Then tell me you shouldn't lower. Tiger won 14 majors "dipping". Must have been a bad idea. Now he's hurt and you give him credit for nothing. Typical.
Nick Faldo is an idiot! He just picks up a check these days for talking garbage. He needs to go out on the senior tour and put all his know how in to practice. Tigers head has always dipped! So he is not as consistent as he used to be but every time he hits a bad shot we get an over analysis and 50 different points of view from 10 different unqualified analysts.
The loss of height cant be good ...I mean come on, he might 'always do this' but its not good and I think it's as a result of struggling to release the clubhead which is why he tweaks his grip...same reason..
And Faldo was never about distance !! so sure he would struggle when his whole career which won him majors was about control as opposed to distance...
So right now Tiger might have the distance but struggles to control !
@Fl3tch3rb0y You people are crazy. Tiger dominated golf for 12 years. He hits a bad stretch and now everything he does is shit? Tiger is trying to relearn his swing because he can't do the same things he used to due to his physical limitations. And why do you say the "loss of height can't be good" when just about every great player does it? You're stuck in conventional golf bullshit. Just watch the videos. The evidence is staring you in the face.
No your right, Tiger is world number one as far as I am concerned. Each great pro is great because he goes his own way. I think Faldo changed golf for the better and I think Tiger set standards and raised the bar also.
I commented on the loss of height because its a bad habit of mine too and when it happens its as a result of a lack of confidence, usually when Im struggling to release the club thru the ball. I just wondered if the same thing was happening here to tiger.
Oh yeah, all those tour pros really ate their words with that. He goes out at the pga championship and makes a complete ass of himself. Why is ben hogan some sort of god? It seems like if hogan does something then everybody has to do it. Part of the problem is head dip yes, but its not the fact that hes dipping his head, its the fact that hes coming back up and not staying on plane, not to mention the layed off club, the flat and outside takeaway, the bowed wrist, the steep downswing list goeson
First things first; Wayne, good rip of Faldo's poor analysis. I certainly agree that he (as well as most of the commentators, on course and off) don't know enough about how pros swing the club. As you say in all your vids, almost everyone compresses into the ground for leverage. So why is it bad for Tiger? I will say this though, I don't think I saw tiger hit it better with his irons (with the exception of 2000) than he did when he was with Hank. Definitely didn't drive the ball well though.
put up tigers swing of 2000. Thats when he swung his best. His swing has gone downhill ever since he went to Haney. Yes he still won but only because of the mental strength he has and his ability to hit miracle shots out of trouble. British and US open of 2000 he hardly missed a fairway or green he hit it so straight. Sadly we may never see the best of TW again. I made the call he wouldn't win in '10 and i said the same for this year..........
I think there is a distinct possibility that TW is washed up. 10 years ago I told myself that the human body could not indefinitely stand up to the strain he put on his. I suspect that he needs to (1) put away the clubs and concentrate on physical rehab and (2) build a swing a lot less violent. Good models would be Payne Stewart, Ernie Els, Sam Snead, and (what the hell) Jeff Maggert.
When I started playing golf in highschool circa 1978, always followed Nicklaus, Watson. tried to model their swings, fell in love with Hogan, Player, because they were my size. I found out about Freddie Couples, and took all that I followed wiith those guys and added Freddie's tempo, then I watched Faldo, and became obsessed with the way he played. It was a culmulation of the tempo, of Couples, the course mgt of Nicklaus, accuracy of Hogan, and control of Watson, lacking was power.
Loved the comparison to Hogan's swing. Nobody ever hit it as solidly as he did. Back and through the ball his spine angle is perfectly mirrored, that is how you hit it solid. When the inside of Tiger's head is fixed nobody is going to be talking about the outside... trust me. Keep it up dude.

This is your best vid Wayne D! Truth hurts sometimes, doesnt it cockywatchman, 372807? Faldo was arguably the greatest Euro player of all time! But, he did quit! He couldn't hit it anywhere! and he is still very green as an announcer and analyst! People need to stop being so sensitive.
@steckleinjr Another youtube idiot, you wouldn't say boo to a goose in real life. A keyboard warrior. I'm guessing you are American. The US seriously lags behind on golf and golf coaching now. Greatest Euro player of all time? In your planet mate. Couldn't hit it anywhere......that extra chromosome is really really troubling you isn't it. He'd outdrive you with a six iron arsehole
thanks wayne - I was interested in Rory McIlroy's win and came upon your swing analysis videos, extremely interesting and very enlightening- I say this as someone who used to practise all hours when I was a kid and got to a 6 handicap before I was 16. However I just didn't get Hogan's swing at all and went along with the Faldo/ Norman etc theories about swing arc size and all that. I was big but couldn't get the power into my shots. I wish You Tube had been around- I might have hung in there!

"Popcorned" the ball, "Never hit the ball anywhere", "Never took advantage of his size" - Yeah right! to the extent of 6 (that's SIX) majors you arrogant jerkoff!
@372807 Actually, you have a point. I was way too harsh with criticism of Faldo. His commentary gets so annoying that I guess I just snapped. Remember that this video is a year old. I would not say the same things now. Six majors is an outstanding achievement. I always marveled at his technique and approach to the game and it's too bad that he can't really bring that across when he is on TV. You have to admit, though, that in this case his spontaneous commentary is hideous.
@372807 what do all of those parenthecised words/phrases have to do with winning six majors? maybe if he never popcorned the ball or learned to generate speed he would have won twelve majors! Being successful doesn't mean one is "faultless" Faldo never turned water into wine! grow up, don't be so sensitive, and please refrain from hurling insults in public forums!
@372807 No need to call the man a jerk off for stating his opinion at the time. You watched the entire video so maybe say thank you for posting something you watched instead of insulting him. I thought this was a great video with great insight and I say thank you wdefrancesco for this I enjoyed it very much and you seem very knowledgeable about the sport of golf. Wish there were more people like you making videos.
There is more than one way to get stuck coming down. Hogan dropped because like Snead and older generation swings, they sat down with they're legs and hips and that aloud them to delay the powerful unwinding of the shoulders and arms. Tiger lowers down because he crunches his upper body down (stuck) and then has to rise out of it by arching his back like a cat. When he hits those pure wedges we see him hit, he rotates his upper body better more stable.
You really should hesitate and engage the two brain cells that rattle around in your head before espousing ill informed, uneducated drivle.
In that particular shot tiger's swing is riddled with faults his elevation drop during transition is reminiscent of a lumberjack chopping down trees and whilst he doesn't take the club to parallel he is still laying the club off far too much.
Your comments about nick Faldo quitting because the drivers and balls were too easy to hit is completely incorrect
@Bloafy "Riddled with faults?" Of course including the head drop which he has been doing since he was 4 years old. And "laid off"? Hogan did OK with a laid off position, as did Trevino, etc..14 majors and 72 Tour events should tell you something about this "riddled with faults" swing. Think about who you are talking about here. You're the type who criticized Nicklaus for the "flying right elbow". And if you think that being outdriven by 50 yds had nothing to do with Faldo quitting so be it
@Bloafy Please stop talking nonsense. Faldo was always a great competitor but really how many people have you seen emulate the Faldo swing. It was Leadbetter who coached him during much of his success and we all know how many careers Leadbetter has ruined! No if you want a swing analyst, you don't go to Faldo! And yes it is true he did quit when he lost his game completely and that is why he CAN't play the Senior tour - HE HAS NO GAME!
Great analysis! I think you offer some great insight that I never took into consideration. What sold me on the benefit of dropping the head was your side by side with Hogan. Prior to this I thought it was bad to do this. Very very interesting and makes me re-evaluate what I've been taught for so many years.
@Humperdink18 Yeah, no Carnac there. I should know better, having had my own share of injuries. Just hard to believe it could turn bad so fast. But golf is a crazy game. As far as Faldo's analysis, my focus was on his use of the term "stuck", not on whether it was a great swing. Faldo fumbles through his instant analysis constantly. I expect more from an accomplished and technically proficient player. I don't think he tries hard enough to prepare. He should be better.
In my opinion, Faldo's commentary was pretty damn accurate. He out over the ball too much (forcing him to correct it on the way down with his torso and hips). Secondly, he is certainly laying it off substantially. He definitely has the club too flat at the top in the frame that Faldo is analyzing. I just feeling you're being a Tiger apologist instead of an objective analyst...
I'd have to agree with your analysis - I think Faldo here is regurgitating things he has heard about Tigers bad swings, getting stuck etc rather than actually looking at the footage and taking that individual swing on it's merits. I don't think Tiger was stuck here, that shaft looks great.
The losing of height on the back and downswing is interesting. Hogan's action was so similar in this respect as you point out. I am inclined to think this is a good thing too.
To me it looks like he didnt finish the backswing on the first shot, and the second it looks like he started his legs a little soon and got his weight a little too far out front. What you think?
wadefrancesco dont read those freakin idiots posts .. i agree with you 100% plus that 5 wood shot went left , IF you are stuck the ball will go right , go learn GOLF nick faldo.
Um, Faldo had a way better swing than Woods and so he should listen, Woods just has a bucket load more talent...that doesnt affect someones proficiency at analyzing a swing. Also Faldo ex world #1 and excellent Ryder Cup Player...just listen to him not these cowbot trying to make $20 from youtube
I would agree with you that a lot of these announcers make brash generalizations about professional golf swing with out analyzing the shots in detail (I think Peter Kostis does a good job of breaking down a swing while also having it make sense to the general public though). Brandel Chamblee has been harping on Tiger's swing change with Foley for months just because he's biased to an old fashioned upright swing. Tiger's swing now with Foley is much better that in the above video too.
i agree with you man, i grew up watching faldo win his majors with price and the usual 80s crew but noone quite does it like tiger does it. He is going to be back the recent 2nds and 4ths are just him getting back into dominating. Watch out Nicklaus, those records are there to be broken
Tiger is Tiger because of his Talent, not due tot any particular swing. He can perform any swing and get the ball into the hole better then all other players
I'd say his angles were ok but the dip on the downswing was a little lower than usual and he came down a little steep which is why he duffed it a bit.
Arent you supposed to swing inside out. WTF is faldo talking about, yeah Faldo looks boring and although he won 6 majors, most of which were done in the 80's. The dullest era in Golf and a year before Tiger came in. How come he retired if he's such a know it all, at least play the champions tour
@jimmymagicjt Same thing early 90's and one in 96 when Greg Norman did his usuall choke. Only hardcore golfers and old farts watched the PGA tour back then. Now the game has become more athletic with the swings and gear due to Tiger and has gained more fans and higher ratings. Once again Nick is boring
nick faldo or should I say Sir Nick Faldo LOLOL is anti tiger. I don't blame him. Tiger has won more majors, more money, more sponsors, more fans, more women, bigger house, plane, yacht, businesses, and probably dick. So, I understand.
Why are you so anti Faldo...you get worse as this vid progresses! The guy won 6 majors (and came 2nd (looads too). I personally enjoy his commentary-he didn't need power-he played in a different era you fool!!!! If he played now he'd be longer and still win-champions do this. They do what is required. Also you analyse an older Faldo-in his younger days he was longer
@cockywatchman1976 Geez...Why can't you people focus on what I am bitching about? It is the specific commentary of Tiger's swing, and the horrendous job he does on spontaneous swing analysis, that is so disappointing. Faldo was a great champion. If you listen I say this more than once. I would be an idiot to disparage a record like his. But he wants to go after Tiger in regards to what he considers a swing flaw that is not a flaw at all, but rather is exactly what he needed to keep playing.
Good call. Faldo knows what he is talking about and I can't see why people think a top player is beyond constructive criticism. As for Faldo he re-designed his swing to fit the circumstances (having a swing that could hold up under excruciating pressure) - which meant taking length off his shots. He was long enough to hit the par 5s when he needed to (e.g. 17th (550 yards) en route to the 1992 Open) and could hit his 4 iron closer than most could hit their 7 irons.
@cockywatchman1976 nick would hit the ball longer bwahahahahaha he plays every year at british open and he sucks and cant hit the ball , and after that, he talks about tigers swing ,and he cant even make the cut ! nick is a has been . sorry to say but i agree 100% with wadefrancesco..
@TheJazzpro Who cares what a fool like you thinks??? Noone. You're almost certainly one of those TIger is the best and lets all buy Nike merchandise type people. What a prat. Keep your silly moronic thoughts inside your little brain please.
@cockywatchman1976 silly moronic thoughts? what world do you live in? re-read your posts and quit while you are behind. you're making a fool of yourself!
He quit after winning 6 majors!!!! How many did you win???? ZERO. Pretty silly comments Wayne, Faldo is entitled to comment and is much more qualified than you are in most people's eyes.
I like your discussion of the swing but don't really agree with you seeming to rip all the former greats swing analysis. I agree that Tiger wanted to swing like Ben thats why he went to haney. All you here theses days is guys talking about getting flatter. Problem is the bigger guys shouldn't be swinging like Ben. tiger won despite of Haney with his amazing short game and clutch putting. Tiger needs to go back to hitting high fades. Tiger needs to strengthen his grip first off.
@4AStateChamp in a previous video you claim "you don't know that much about the swing" now you're giving advice to tall guys, Wayne Defrancesco and tiger woods? too funny state champ! please keep posting. these days i need all the laughs i can get!
@wdefrancesco Haha, that's funny! I think a lot about the golf swing is subjective anyway. I can see why people dislike Faldo-I just like him. He was always my player to follow
@admc8 Faldo's a legend. Superb player and brilliant mentality on the course. Also humerous commentary. Personally I agree with his analysis. You gotta remember, it's for TV. Not for nerds like us who spend time watching swing analysis on TV! This is analysis made simple
@cockywatchman1976 i agree he is a legend but it doesn't mean i need to like him. It's like Don Cherry and hockey. The guys a legend but i hate him to.
Good video. Alot of valid points and I have to agree in regards to slight loss of height. I can't see how his action would be something that would cause any loss of power. I do it myself as do all the single figure guys at my club and, if anything, it makes the golf swing feel like a more athletic and free motion.
Please next time before you rip on someone elses swing analysis learn a little something about what you are talking about. I want you to find a video of Phil Mickelson, or lets see Jack. I dont think i have to say his last name. Let me know if their heads drop in the down swing.... It wont happen. And im pretty sure Jack was the longest hitter on tour by a long shot!! You create power and length by staying behind the ball, not dropping into it!!!!! Look up those two swings
@jagayumps06 I've done Jack and Mickelson. You can watch and listen to what I said. There are plenty of others (players and videos) that back up my statements. They are right there for you to look at. So next time you want to rip me why don't you learn a little something about what I am saying?
@wdefrancesco Well my point is the best year of Tigers professional life was 2000. Its cleary because his swing was more fundamentally sound. He loaded up on right side at the top and just exploded through the ball. Very little head dropping in that swing. And thats the furthest hes ever hit it in his life. And the reason Nick Faldo didnt hit it anywhere was because of his grip. The only reason was because of his grip. Nothing to do with his dead staying level!!!!!!!! Nick won with short game.
@jagayumps06 Come on man. The reason Faldo swung the club that way was that Faldo favored accuracy rather then power. It was in the days just when powergolf was reborn through John Daly. All everybody talked about was control and accuracy. Faldos whole swing was geared towards precision.
Nick faldo didn't hit it anywhere because of his grip? Go read golf the winning formula. His grip was neautral (previous it was weak with barely 2 knuckles on his left hand, see Faldo golf course 1) until the mid 1990's when he started to have his right hand more on top to hold the face open a little more. By today's standards his swing was not very dynamic but it was extremely efficient and neutral which was his choice.
By your head dropping in the downswing, you are actually getting in the way of yourself and clearing through the ball. He isnt talking about the shaft angle being stuck underneath him. He is talking about his spine angle dropping to the point to where he has to completly come out of his spine angle to hit a decent shot. By you saying this is a good motion is just DUMB!! This swing requires so much timing to get it right. He is the best and will always be the best but not with this swing..
@wdefrancesco I need to do more studying! haha you are a funny guy.. I tell you what, put your swing on here and break it down, then tell me how much i know. The day you beat someone like me you can talk!!
@jagayumps06 That squat move is powerful. That loads your glutes and stabilizes your body on the downswing. That allows you to use the ground for leverage. You can then fire those glutes coming into impact to add more club head speed. Study something called stretch shortening cycle and get back to us on how we're wrong.
@feelxitxburn Dude you have got to lay off the Sean Foley videos and clinics!! Seriously! I never said that dropping your head was a bad move!! I said that is isnt necessary to hit it long as Phil and Jack have proven over the years! You are sitting here talking about glutes and shortening cycle! You and Sean would get along just great... WOW
he's laid off at the top of the backswing and has a dip in the downswing- thats not a good swing. He's one of the best mainly because of his short game.
"we"are all the other watchers (two others just on this page)that are frustrated by your analysis vids that start off well and descend into jealous slagging off of proven playing greats turned tv commentators. your work is good and would get so much more respect if you stuck to the swing theory and stopped trying to appear superior. tv commentators have to simplify everything for the mass audience. BIG mistake to even assume or suggest NICK FALDO knows nothing about the golf swing.
@stalli1973 TV commentators do not have to dumb down everything. People are tired of the same old cliche'd, conventional analysis. Faldo should be way better than he is. He should prepare better and offer more. After all, this is the guy who hung with Leadbetter practically 24/7. How can he not know more than he gives with these stupid comments? I don't get it. I'm not trying to appear superior. I just long for one of these guys to provide some decent insight into what is happening.
Wayne, dont bother arguing with these blokes giving you a hard time. You obviously know and understand the golf swing and i enjoy your website. Your bubba watson swing break down is awesome. Be above responding to people you wouldnt know the first thing about gold swings. I have some professional golfer mates and I have directed them to your website. Best I have seen, keep up the good work mate.

dude who are you, were you a big time pga tour player like Nick Faldo i dont think so. And im pretty sure Peter Costus has better swing analysis than you. so as you said u can eat it
@Bach121494 Peter Costus? If you're going to send a snippy comment at least spell the guy's name correctly. And are you "pretty sure" he has a better swing analysis, or really sure? And I never said "u can eat it".
Although that dip with the head is pretty harmless as you showed us with Hogan, I may have to agree with Faldo on this one... You said that at 5:55 that the shaft is in good shape, but if you were to know where his weight was at that point that thing could be well behind him if a significant amount of weight is on that left side..
@dukane14 If I can't tell where the weight is neither can Faldo. I can certainly guess-it's getting heavier left with each passing millisecond. When the camera view is from down the line and the camera is positioned as it is here the shaft is where it is, and here it is not "stuck". Nor are Tiger's legs "stuck". He hit a bad shot. He could throw another one down and hole it and neither you, I, or Faldo could tell the difference. When his hands catch up with the changes he will be #1 again.
@wdefrancesco Absolutely..But the truth is the end result LATELY isn't too good...And I know now he's still in the process of a "new swing"..I just think Tiger swings a wee bit too hard with his tee ball shots and that's where that "stuck" talk starts.. And I am not sure how you think on this Wayne but Hogan's rhythm, or Snead's, Watson's or Trevino's seems to be pretty much the same thing every time no matter what club they use? I would love to see Tiger use his iron swing more with his driver
I think Nick Faldo didn't talk about his shaft coming down, but instead his transition move looks more like "down and up" that he didn't fully clear his hips at impact. The other videos you showed including ben hogan, they do drop their heads at transition but right after that they shifted their hips more toward to left side.
tiger has been compressing from the age of two, he has won all his tournaments compressing and he will continue to win while he is compressing.
i dont know how the a golfer who has won the way he has, where he has and by how much he has could have a bad swing @blakethegolfer13, i need that explained .
He has made another change and he is struggling to keep together on a consistent basis for now, and that is frustrating for him, but he will get there and we all know what will happen when he does

Tiger woods at his worst is still good enough to compete with the best, when he is on form he is 3 shots better than anyone! His behaviour on the course needs to improve though. im glad the european tour fined him for spitting in dubai as this may finally lead to him cleaning up his act. Im a tiger fan but club throwing and spitting are not the way to go, its just giving an excuse for children to mimic this. btw nice vid, Faldo poofed the ball in that shot lol
Man Wayne u are absolutely crazy if u think tiger has a good swing!!! U have no right to say anything about those announcers. U would wish to be in their position.Your just another person who thinks their a pro just because u have a card that says your name on it so u think u can say wat u want. Tiger's swing is not good at all!
@blakethegolfer13 dont you need to fly down to key largo, have your parents pay jimmy ballard $300 an hour so he can give you more ideas to post here?
@blakethegolfer13 Wayne won the PGA National Club Pro Championship, period, he's earned his stripes. Blake you have a lot to learn, make some friends, and work on your game.
i need more than 500characters for this-of course johnny miller is awful at swing (and putting) analysis-terrible...but anybody who knows the golf swing cant say that this swing is better than 2000-stats?2010-57%fairway...2000 71.2%-but he has intangibles that aren't seen with lines on a video- and he still is going to win(not by 15)because of those!your "guessing" he tweaked his grip?you like his new position at top?blaming harmon for his new takeaway?tiger swing is "great" now? ...genius
His video series with leadbetter from around 1990 was brilliant. He made a point of having a wide and low one piece takeaway, which he was not doing in that clip you showed. His leg movement was minimal too, focusing on turning against his right leg and knee to generate power. When he was at his best from 1987 to 1993 his swing was as good as anybodys
Faldo's swing you showed with the driver was when he was on the way down. Seemed to have lost the ability to turn more tha anything, swing got very short. and weak. Go back to the 1987 British Open just after he finished revamping his swing and it's much more powerful. He didn't do that picky up thing he was doing in your clip.
Hey Wayne, we are sure glad here in the UK that Faldo is over there with you guys. Sure he may 6 majors, but he is about as interesting as watching your car rust.... and as for the David Brent-esque (The Office) way he handled the Ryder Cup 2008... well the less said about that the better.
I'd give anything for a "bad" Tiger swing. Interesting analysis though I'd doubt the average golfer can do the moves that Tiger does. I notice a lot of the pro women golfers have a lot of downwards head movement, Natalie Gulbis & Paula Creamer are examples I wonder what you make of their extreme head dips?
I still admire Faldo's swing for is rhythm and tempo and a great long iron player back in his day.
You know as well as I do that Faldo practiced with Leadbetter and liked in and up 2-plane swing. His comments has to be seen in that light. Personally as an instructor I like tigers swing. The head drop is just a way to get the plane steeper. Personally I prefer the swing at Congrassional. It is such a simple move just holding the club square though impact. The ball goes SOOOOOOOOOO straight in that way.
none of the announcers ever had the balls to get inside tiger's head until faldo came in the booth.Even johnny miller, the hit man, turned into pussy for tiger woods.
@robbieflub Who am I? Easy...Just check out my website. And I think my bitching is entirely dignified. We all know Faldo was a great player (majors, Ryder cups...), but what do you think of his announcing? Is he OK because he was a champion or can you see why I find him so disappointing and annoying?
@wdefrancesco we saw a glimpse of what Tiger is still capable of in the Ryder Cup this year when he shot that ridiculous round, so i completely agree with you Wayne, and i also believe Tiger is gonna kick some ass in the years to come.
@wdefrancesco I think Faldo is an excellent commentator. Funny, interesting and just says what he thinks. What more can you ask? He's also been there and done it. I mean he was the greatest of his era. Ok, he is head strong and gonna annoy some people. But I'd rather have an opinionated guy that someone who just says everything is great-like some of these american guys, and Peter Oosterhuis too-BORING yawn!!!
@wdefrancesco He says some odd things, his Ryder cup closing ceremony speech was hard to watch. The reason he's on TV and your not, is that he knows what it is like to compete at the highest level, be under tournament and media pressure. Broadcasters are looking for that elite insight so he can convey it to and add value to the viewing audience. Technical semantics and the offense they evidently caused you, do not invalidate his commentary or his proven technical competence that has won majors.
@wdefrancesco Been playing golf for about two months and improving pretty quickly. Love your vids and analysis...Helps cut through a lot of the dogmatic thought about what makes a great golf swing....Thanks again and keep it coming...Do you analyze anybody's swing....as in would you comment on my swing if I ever got any video?
This whole deal about squating and it causing Tiger problems in his swing is so overrated. Whats funny is that all these announcers would - and probably do - agree that Sam Snead was a hell of a ball striker, and they would all agree that it was largely due to the squating action he emphasized on and yet they are oblivious to their nonsense comments. As a golf instructor myself, I have always prefered seeing my students squat because it generates power through rotation. Great analysis.
Could someone please break down this somaxperformance thing, and prove or disprove the teachings if possible.

What announcers say is happening quite often the exact opposite of what is actually happening.

@robmitch69 Am I an arrogant twat because of what I say or how I say it?
wdefrancesco 1 week ago
I watched 7 nights at the Academy the other night and Faldo has no idea about the golf swing, he didn't have a clue until Ledbetter fixed him up and he still doesn't. Miller knows more than anyone (he knows too much) Tiger's problem is he is a perfectionist. He could have stayed with his 97' swing but he wouldn't settle for it.

Typical.
wdefrancesco 4 months ago
@mossmc many great players have their head drop during the golf swing, but not as dreastic as Tiger does.
MissionScratch59 3 months ago
Nick Faldo is an idiot! He just picks up a check these days for talking garbage. He needs to go out on the senior tour and put all his know how in to practice. Tigers head has always dipped! So he is not as consistent as he used to be but every time he hits a bad shot we get an over analysis and 50 different points of view from 10 different unqualified analysts.
mca4u 4 months ago
The loss of height cant be good ...I mean come on, he might 'always do this' but its not good and I think it's as a result of struggling to release the clubhead which is why he tweaks his grip...same reason..
And Faldo was never about distance !! so sure he would struggle when his whole career which won him majors was about control as opposed to distance...
So right now Tiger might have the distance but struggles to control !
Fl3tch3rb0y 4 months ago
@Fl3tch3rb0y You people are crazy. Tiger dominated golf for 12 years. He hits a bad stretch and now everything he does is shit? Tiger is trying to relearn his swing because he can't do the same things he used to due to his physical limitations. And why do you say the "loss of height can't be good" when just about every great player does it? You're stuck in conventional golf bullshit. Just watch the videos. The evidence is staring you in the face.
wdefrancesco 4 months ago
@wdefrancesco
Fl3tch3rb0y 4 months ago
I'm sure when his confidence returns he will be back to his old self. He'll be difficult to beat....Come on Tiger
Fl3tch3rb0y 4 months ago
Oh yeah, all those tour pros really ate their words with that. He goes out at the pga championship and makes a complete ass of himself. Why is ben hogan some sort of god? It seems like if hogan does something then everybody has to do it. Part of the problem is head dip yes, but its not the fact that hes dipping his head, its the fact that hes coming back up and not staying on plane, not to mention the layed off club, the flat and outside takeaway, the bowed wrist, the steep downswing list goeson
1019079 4 months ago

First things first; Wayne, good rip of Faldo's poor analysis. I certainly agree that he (as well as most of the commentators, on course and off) don't know enough about how pros swing the club. As you say in all your vids, almost everyone compresses into the ground for leverage. So why is it bad for Tiger? I will say this though, I don't think I saw tiger hit it better with his irons (with the exception of 2000) than he did when he was with Hank. Definitely didn't drive the ball well though.
CharlesACoop 6 months ago
Have you ever played a round with Tiger in person?
steveingvar 7 months ago
put up tigers swing of 2000. I made the call he wouldn't win in '10 and i said the same for this year..........
goozbomb 7 months ago

Wish there were more people like you making videos.
bigsleep32 4 months ago
There is more than one way to get stuck coming down. Hogan dropped because like Snead and older generation swings, they sat down with they're legs and hips and that aloud them to delay the powerful unwinding of the shoulders and arms. Tiger lowers down because he crunches his upper body down (stuck) and then has to rise out of it by arching his back like a cat. When he hits those pure wedges we see him hit, he rotates his upper body better more stable.
patkrebsgolf 8 months ago
You really should hesitate and engage the two brain cells that rattle around in your head before espousing ill informed, uneducated drivle.
In that particular shot tiger's swing is riddled with faults his elevation drop during transition is reminiscent of a lumberjack chopping down trees and whilst he doesn't take the club to parallel he is still laying the club off far too much.
Your comments about nick Faldo quitting because the drivers and balls were too easy to hit is completely incorrect
Bloafy 8 months ago
@Bloafy "Riddled with faults?" Of course including the head drop which he has been doing since he was 4 years old. And "laid off"? Hogan did OK with a laid off position, as did Trevino, etc..14 majors and 72 Tour events should tell you something about this "riddled with faults" swing. Think about who you are talking about here. You're the type who criticized Nicklaus for the "flying right elbow". And if you think that being outdriven by 50 yds had nothing to do with Faldo quitting so be it
wdefrancesco 8 months ago
@Bloafy Please stop talking nonsense. Faldo was always a great competitor but really how many people have you seen emulate the Faldo swing. It was Leadbetter who coached him during much of his success and we all know how many careers Leadbetter has ruined! No if you want a swing analyst, you don't go to Faldo! And yes it is true he did quit when he lost his game completely and that is why he CAN't play the Senior tour - HE HAS NO GAME!
mca4u 4 months ago
Great analysis! I think you offer some great insight that I never took into consideration. What sold me on the benefit of dropping the head was your side by side with Hogan. Prior to this I thought it was bad to do this. Very very interesting and makes me re-evaluate what I've been taught for so many years.

"Tiger's about to kick everybody's ass pretty soon."
I imagine you're eating those words by now.
Humperdink18 9 months ago
@Humperdink18 Yeah, no Carnac there. I should know better, having had my own share of injuries. Just hard to believe it could turn bad so fast. But golf is a crazy game. As far as Faldo's analysis, my focus was on his use of the term "stuck", not on whether it was a great swing. Faldo fumbles through his instant analysis constantly. I expect more from an accomplished and technically proficient player. I don't think he tries hard enough to prepare. He should be better.
wdefrancesco 9 months ago
In my opinion, Faldo's commentary was pretty damn accurate. He out over the ball too much (forcing him to correct it on the way down with his torso and hips). Secondly, he is certainly laying it off substantially. He definitely has the club too flat at the top in the frame that Faldo is analyzing. I just feeling you're being a Tiger apologist instead of an objective analyst...
Humperdink18 9 months ago
I'd have to agree with your analysis - I think Faldo here is regurgitating things he has heard about Tigers bad swings, getting stuck etc rather than actually looking at the footage and taking that individual swing on it's merits. I don't think Tiger was stuck here, that shaft looks great.
The losing of height on the back and downswing is interesting. Hogan's action was so similar in this respect as you point out. I am inclined to think this is a good thing too.
stevepising 9 months ago
To me it looks like he didnt finish the backswing on the first shot, and the second it looks like he started his legs a little soon and got his weight a little too far out front. What you think?

pokerrich9 10 months ago
I would agree with you that a lot of these announcers make brash generalizations about professional golf swing with out analyzing the shots in detail (I think Peter Kostis does a good job of breaking down a swing while also having it make sense to the general public though). Brandel Chamblee has been harping on Tiger's swing change with Foley for months just because he's biased to an old fashioned upright swing. Tiger's swing now with Foley is much better that in the above video too.

I personally enjoy his commentary-he didn't need power-he played in a different era you fool!!!! If he played now he'd be longer and still win-champions do this. They do what is required. Also you analyse an older Faldo-in his younger days he was longer
cockywatchman1976 11 months ago
@cockywatchman1976 Geez...Why can't you people focus on what I am bitching about? It is the specific commentary of Tiger's swing, and the horrendous job he does on spontaneous swing analysis, that is so disappointing. Faldo was a great champion. If you listen I say this more than once. I would be an idiot to disparage a record like his. But he wants to go after Tiger in regards to what he considers a swing flaw that is not a flaw at all, but rather is exactly what he needed to keep playing.
wdefrancesco 11 months ago
@cockywatchman1976

Good video. Alot of valid points and I have to agree in regards to slight loss of height. I can't see how his action would be something that would cause any loss of power. I dont think i have to say his last name. Let me know if their heads drop in the down swing.... It wont happen. And im pretty sure Jack was the longest hitter on tour by a long shot!! You create power and length by staying behind the ball, not dropping into it!!!!! Look up those two swings
jagayumps06 11 months ago
@jagayumps06 I've done Jack and Mickelson. You can watch and listen to what I said. There are plenty of others (players and videos) that back up my statements. They are right there for you to look at. So next time you want to rip me why don't you learn a little something about what I am saying?
wdefrancesco 11 months ago
@wdefrancesco Well my point is the best year of Tigers professional life was 2000. Its cleary because his swing was more fundamentally sound. He loaded up on right side at the top and just exploded through the ball. Very little head dropping in that swing. And thats the furthest hes ever hit it in his life. And the reason Nick Faldo didnt hit it anywhere was because of his grip. The only reason was because of his grip. Nothing to do with his dead staying level!!!!!!!! Nick won with short game.
jagayumps06 11 months ago
@jagayumps06 Come on man. The reason Faldo swung the club that way was that Faldo favored accuracy rather then power. It was in the days just when powergolf was reborn through John Daly. All everybody talked about was control and accuracy. Faldos whole swing was geared towards precision.
erikpro76 11 months ago
Nick faldo didn't hit it anywhere because of his grip? Go read golf the winning formula. His grip was neautral (previous it was weak with barely 2 knuckles on his left hand, see Faldo golf course 1) until the mid 1990's when he started to have his right hand more on top to hold the face open a little more. By today's standards his swing was not very dynamic but it was extremely efficient and neutral which was his choice.
jimmymagicjt 10 months ago

Study something called stretch shortening cycle and get back to us on how we're wrong.
feelxitxburn 10 months ago
@feelxitxburn Dude you have got to lay off the Sean Foley videos and clinics!! Seriously! I never said that dropping your head was a bad move!! I said that is isnt necessary to hit it long as Phil and Jack have proven over the years! You are sitting here talking about glutes and shortening cycle! You and Sean would get along just great... WOW
jagayumps06 10 months ago
You roasted Nick Faldo. That was awesome.
clonegolfboy 11 months ago
he's laid off at the top of the backswing and has a dip in the downswing- thats not a good swing. He's one of the best mainly because of his short game.
milligano 11 months ago
"we"are all the other watchers (two others just on this page)that are frustrated by your analysis vids that start off well and descend into jealous slagging off of proven playing greats turned tv commentators. your work is good and would get so much more respect if you stuck to the swing theory and stopped trying to appear superior. tv commentators have to simplify everything for the mass audience. BIG mistake to even assume or suggest NICK FALDO knows nothing about the golf swing.
stalli1973 11 months ago

And im pretty sure Peter Costus has better swing analysis than you. so as you said u can eat it
Bach121494 11 months ago
@Bach121494 Peter Costus? If you're going to send a snippy comment at least spell the guy's name correctly. And are you "pretty sure" he has a better swing analysis, or really sure? And I never said "u can eat it".

Stickett 1 year ago
Although that dip with the head is pretty harmless as you showed us with Hogan, I may have to agree with Faldo on this one... You said that at 5:55 that the shaft is in good shape, but if you were to know where his weight was at that point that thing could be well behind him if a significant amount of weight is on that left side..
dukane14 1 year ago
@dukane14 If I can't tell where the weight is neither can Faldo. I can certainly guess-it's getting heavier left with each passing millisecond. When the camera view is from down the line and the camera is positioned as it is here the shaft is where it is, and here it is not "stuck". Nor are Tiger's legs "stuck". He hit a bad shot. He could throw another one down and hole it and neither you, I, or Faldo could tell the difference. When his hands catch up with the changes he will be #1 again.
wdefrancesco 1 year ago
@wdefrancesco Absolutely..But the truth is the end result LATELY isn't too good...And I know now he's still in the process of a "new swing"..I just think Tiger swings a wee bit too hard with his tee ball shots and that's where that "stuck" talk starts.. And I am not sure how you think on this Wayne but Hogan's rhythm, or Snead's, Watson's or Trevino's seems to be pretty much the same thing every time no matter what club they use? I would love to see Tiger use his iron swing more with his driver

LOL! Loved watching and listening to your commentary! Provided an interesing, well-thought out view of Tiger's swing I've never thought about.
captainpicard321 1 year ago

Tiger's swing is not good at all!

i need more than 500characters for this-of course johnny miller is awful at swing (and putting) analysis-terrible...but anybody who knows the golf swing cant say that this swing is better than 2000-stats?2010-57%fairway...2000 71.2%-but he has intangibles that aren't seen with lines on a video- and he still is going to win(not by 15)because of those!your "guessing" he tweaked his grip?you like his new position at top?blaming harmon for his new takeaway?tiger swing is "great" now? ...genius
iamldp 1 year ago
His video series with leadbetter from around 1990 was brilliant. He made a point of having a wide and low one piece takeaway, which he was not doing in that clip you showed. His leg movement was minimal too, focusing on turning against his right leg and knee to generate power. When he was at his best from 1987 to 1993 his swing was as good as anybodys
scottishkevboy 1 year ago
Faldo's swing you showed with the driver was when he was on the way down. Seemed to have lost the ability to turn more tha anything, swing got very short. and weak. Go back to the 1987 British Open just after he finished revamping his swing and it's much more powerful. He didn't do that picky up thing he was doing in your clip.
scottishkevboy 1 year ago

I still admire Faldo's swing for is rhythm and tempo and a great long iron player back in his day.
parttroll1 1 year ago
You know as well as I do that Faldo practiced with Leadbetter and liked in and up 2-plane swing. His comments has to be seen in that light. Personally as an instructor I like tigers swing. The head drop is just a way to get the plane steeper. Personally I prefer the swing at Congrassional. It is such a simple move just holding the club square though impact. The ball goes SOOOOOOOOOO straight in that way.

You could just disagree without the undignified bitching. Oh I meant to ask, have you got a website ??? I'm not sure whether you mentioned it.
I know who Faldo is, majors, Ryder cups that kinda stuff ........... but who are you again ?
robbieflub 1 year ago
@robbieflub Who am I? Easy...Just check out my website. And I think my bitching is entirely dignified. We all know Faldo was a great player (majors, Ryder cups...), but what do you think of his announcing? Is he OK because he was a champion or can you see why I find him so disappointing and annoying?
wdefrancesco 1 year ago
@wdefrancesco we saw a glimpse of what Tiger is still capable of in the Ryder Cup this year when he shot that ridiculous round, so i completely agree with you Wayne, and i also believe Tiger is gonna kick some ass in the years to come.
6901trevor 1 year ago
@wdefrancesco I think Faldo is an excellent commentator. Funny, interesting and just says what he thinks. What more can you ask? He's also been there and done it. I mean he was the greatest of his era. Ok, he is head strong and gonna annoy some people. But I'd rather have an opinionated guy that someone who just says everything is great-like some of these american guys, and Peter Oosterhuis too-BORING yawn!!!
cockywatchman1976 1 year ago
@wdefrancesco He says some odd things, his Ryder cup closing ceremony speech was hard to watch. The reason he's on TV and your not, is that he knows what it is like to compete at the highest level, be under tournament and media pressure. Broadcasters are looking for that elite insight so he can convey it to and add value to the viewing audience. Technical semantics and the offense they evidently caused you, do not invalidate his commentary or his proven technical competence that has won majors.
robbieflub 1 year ago

Great analysis.
samimalmstrom 1 year ago
@samimalmstrom Yeah, the squatting is not a problem. As long as the head is stable through the impact zone you're good to go.
