Why does reducing the population seem like the only option as I'm reading down the list of comments? There are options that can be chosen to fix the growing issue of food scarcity and it starts by re-instiling the local sense of food security amongst people living in impoverished nations. The World Bank and the IMF (International Monetary Fund) have forced third world countries to depend on volatile world markets, which ultimately restricts growth and contributes to worldwide hunger.

We have just got back from Uganda and seen the reality of industrialised agriculture and so called food security. We are the ones responsible for this global phenomenon. All we need to do is reduce our food consumption in the west. Its all just the propaganda machine

This is basic BIOLOGY 101. If an animal species (including man) overeats its food supply starvation in that species occurs. Once enough of the species has died, the food supply returns so that the next generations have enough to eat. The NATURAL BALANCE is then restored. I know it sounds harsh and cruel, but, hey, that's Mother Nature. That's what has to happen in places where people have OVERPOPULATED and OVEREATEN beyond their limits.

The problem is not a FOOD SHORTAGE, it's the problem of OVERPOPULATION. If you give them more food they're just going to pop out more and more babies. You must find ways to DECREASE the POPULATION, as opposed to INCREASE the FOOD SUPPLY.

Earth only has so much areable land to plant crops on. As the population increases there is less and less areable land due to urban development. As the population of earth doubles from 6 billion to 12 billion in the next 50-60 yrs. starvation is inevitable. I''ve seen farmland disappear in the area I live in due to urban sprawl. The population cannnot just keep increasing and everyone live happily ever after.
